The total of participants was 372 of this number, 122 were student teachers, 118 were beginning teachers and 132 were experienced teachers. The results showed the difference in difficulties and the needed support requests among student teachers, beginning teachers and experienced teachers. Student teachers had the difficulty of time management, but beginning teachers and experienced teachers had trouble due to the nonexistence of assistant teachers. Student teachers required teaching strategies for starting relationships with children within responsibility. Beginning teachers and experienced teachers regarded the plan, practice, and evaluation of a program as the most needed support request. Collectively, the results revealed that expansion of the practice period is necessary for student teachers so that they can gain experience with children, parents, and the children's education institution with various opportunities as a learning course.

  • University teacher education programs have sought for ways of how to improve student teaching in order to supply mathematics teachers with practical theory to achieve the goals of the current educational reform in school mathematics. In this context, the purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of student teachers' teaching experience in the after-school mathematics programs and the ways of how to develop the after-school learning programs as an effective site for learning to teach based on the inquiry into student teachers' own teaching experience. For the purpose, data were collected through the interviews with the student teachers who had taught after-school mathematics class. In addition, data were collected through survey, class observation, and seminal meetings with the student teachers in order to supplement the findings from the interview analysis. Data analysis focused on the student teachers' experience with teaching in after-school mathematics classes, that is, what and how they had learned as teachers, what kinds of difficulties they encountered in their teaching and supports that they expect to improve their learning through teaching. The analysis shows that the teaching experience in the after-school programs had positively contributed to their development as future mathematics teachers. Specifically, the after-school programs provide the site for learning through teaching at the early stage of teacher education program. The after-school programs provided the students teachers for the opportunity to participate peripherally in educational practice of school. Through the participation, the student teachers developed positive attitudes toward teaching career and became to have more solid ideas about how to teach mathematics. Based on the analysis, this research provides following suggestions concerning how to improve student teaching. First, it is necessary to provide student teachers to participate into the practice of teaching at the early stage of teacher education programs. Second, it is important to give students teacher opportunity to participate in teaching at peripheral and legitimate positions. Finally, it is necessary to construct mentoring networks to support student teachers to move from a peripheral position toward a center of teaching practice.

  • The role of teachers has been explicitly emphasized to implement the vision of sustainable development(SD). Also, it is very important to understand the way student teachers understand SD and how they interpret their own professional task in terms of SD, usually referred to as education for sustainable development(ESD). This study investigated student teachers' perceptions of SD and ESD using group interview. Key findings include, first, that they think SD as development which does not exceed the limits of natural environment, and as wise management of resources/protection of environment for future generations. They also think SD as good thing though they don't understand the contested nature of SD. Second they think ESD as education about SD, but some student teachers say they can't explain ESD. Many student teachers prefer field trip to local examples for both elementary school students and themselves. Also they will teach only what the textbook says about SD and ESD during their school placement and as teachers. So it will be the beginning of ESD in school to include SD in the curriculum for students and student teachers. It is suggested to study student teachers' perception of SD focussing on how they think the relationship between protection of environment and economic growth.

Methods: The participants were 399 student teachers studying child care and education at two-year or four-year colleges in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, South Chungcheong, and Daejeon. They completed questionnaires on student teachers' perceptions on cooperating teacher's professionalism and motivation to become a teacher. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, and partial-correlation analyses. Results: There were three findings from this study. First, there was a significant difference in student teachers' perceptions on cooperating teacher's professionalism depending on the type of child care center and education system, rather than the type of class. Second, there was a significant difference in student teachers' motivation to become a teacher depending on the students' education system. Third, student teachers' perceptions on their cooperating teacher's professionalism correlated with their motivation to become a teacher. Conclusion/Implications: This study suggests that student teachers' perceptions on cooperating teacher's professionalism is significantly different depending on the type of child care center or educational system and is related with motivation to become a teacher.
