The purpose of this study is to investigate the features of science classes of Science Core Schools (SCSs) perceived by students. 654 students from 14 SCSs were surveyed with two open-ended questions on the features of science classes. The students' responses were analyzed with NetMiner 4.5, in terms of the centrality (of betweenness and of degree) analysis and the community analysis. The results of the research are as follows: (1) the science classes of SCSs were perceived by students to be of the environment of free questioning, active participation and communication, caring teacher, more science experiments and advanced contents, and knowledge sharing; (2) science classes in SCSs were perceived to be different from those of ordinary high schools because SCSs provide more opportunities for science-related special courses (like project work, advanced science subjects), extra-curricular activities, inquiry and research activities, school supports, hard-working classroom environment, longer studying hours, R&E and club activities. The students' perceptions of SCS science classes appear to be in line with the characteristics of 'good' science lessons from previous studies. The SCS project itself and the features of SCS science classes would help us to see how we introduce educational innovations into actual schools.

This study aims to investigate the awareness and policy demands of after school care classes of mothers with elementary school children. The participants of study were 25 mothers with elementary school children in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Gangwon. Data collection was conducted from June 23, 2017 to July 18, 2017 by focus group interview. Through the data analysis, the results of the study were analyzed as 'the reality of the after school care class that the mother sees' and 'the policy demands of the mother's after school care class'. 'The reality of the after school care class that the mother sees' is 'the overall level of after school care class is low', 'the probability of selecting the same as a lottery', 'the quality of education that varies depending on the level of the teacher', 'for the child attending the care class negative awareness'. 'Mother's policy demands for after school care classes' are presented as 'positioning as a substitute for thinking and caring', 'improvement of separation between parents' expectations', 'expansion of care recipients', 'request for resilient management'. As the conclusion of this study, first, after school care classes need to focus on the care function. Second, it is necessary to operate after school care classes by level. Third, the realistic needs of mothers should be reflected so that after school care classes can be positioned as alternatives to private education.
The purposes of this study were to find out the effectiveness of instructional program developed utilizing various strategies to foster the students creativity in science and to analyze the recognition of the students as well as the science teachers on this program for the improvement of the program. Instructional program was consisted of student's worksheet and teacher guidebook. This program was applied to 93 7th grade students for three months. Result of this study showed that the students in experimental group got higher scores than those in the control group, which implied that creativity of the students could be promoted through specially designed program. Analysis of the change of creativity of the students by science achievement showed that the degree of promotion of creativity was higher as the achievement of the students becomes higher. Recognition on this program of the students and teachers who participated in this project revealed positive in that this program was different from the instructional program they have used and that this program would make the students eager to learn and explore the phenomena they faced. Students and teachers also indicated that shortage of instructional time, too many students in class, passive attitude of the students in class discussion, and so on as the problem they have to solve in running the program.

This study was conducted to investigate the perception of teaching consulting and dietary education of Home Economics teachers. The subjects consisted of 139 Home Economics teachers in Korea. The perceptions of Home Economics teachers on their teaching class were as follows: the teachers who had a lot of psychological burden on their open classes, 62.6%; who were satisfied with their teaching, 29.5%; who had been teaching consulting, 40.3%; consulting is needed in order to improve the quality of instruction, 46.8%; who wanted to receive teaching consulting, 46.1%. who wanted to receive teaching consulting excellent colleagues, 76.3%. The most of the Home Economics teachers had a positive attitude on the teaching consulting. The perceptions of teaching strategies of dietary teaching classes were as follows: using audio-visual materials for students concentrate, 47.5%; observing the students reactions and feedback for individual variation, 73.4%; descriptive class for main teaching method, 58.3%. The difficulties of teaching dietary class were as follows: total mean, 2.60/5.00; considering individual differences, 3.26; involving students in activities, 3.11; selection of teaching media, 2.88; production of media, 2.88; planning teacher and student activities, 2.85. Home Economics teachers have to lead dietary education in society and schools but they feel a lot of psychological burden on opening teaching class. Therefore Home Economics teachers are recommended to devote consistent efforts to strengthen teaching ability through the analysis of teaching ability, teaching reflection, consulting and actual performance of self-supervision.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the gifted students' view on argumentation and the aspects of the argumentation in problem-solving type experiment. As a result, very lively argumentation was identified but quality enhancement on argumentation wasn't found over time. Students made frequent use of dialogic argumentation component, and especially, request & response component was highly used. Though usage frequency is low, the component of ground & question on ground was shown in 3rd class, and simple agreement gradually reduced, and reinforcing elaboration & metacognitive question has slightly increased. Also, students' argumentation were closely related to teachers' teaching approaches as some teacher-led steps doesn't appear in students' argumentation. By comparison in steps, 'problem solving activity & result analysis' step included 2 times more argument components than the previous step. We also found that method grouping teams does not almost affect the argumentation of gifted students. By survey results, most students recognized that they experienced free argumentation and this program activate argumentation and 'strange things' or 'difficulty' of program topics are obstacles in vitalization of argumentation. 'Surface growth experiments' was the most lively argumentation topic. The argumentation was lively made in the step of 'finding solution. 'Teachers' scaffolding accelerate the argumentation and help resolve difficulties in argumentation. Thus, students have positive recognition for the argumentation process in the experiments and recognize that argumentation process is needed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate research trends about convergence and integrated science education through the analysis of theses published from January, 2000 to June, 2011 in the scientific journals. For the analysis of the theses, we set standards of analysis including the number of theses, integrated types, research methods, the designs of study and the objects of study. The number of theses used for the analysis were 110 volumes and these were limited to the Journal of KASE (The Korean Association for Science Education) and Journal of KESES (The Korean Society of Elementary Science Education). The results of the study are as follows. First, in the analysis of theses according to the published year, we discovered that the volumes of theses related to convergence and integrated science education were only about 10% of theses published in the journals. Second, the theses about STS education and integration type were the most common type in the integrated types, and the next things were integration type with other scientific fields, and integration type with other subjects. Third, 50% of theses have focused on the 'analysis of effect' as research methods and 45.5% of the theses have used 'quantitative research' as the designs of study. Fourth, the most common study in the theses was to target elementary school students, then it was middle school students, then high school students, literature, teachers, would-be teachers, and the general public. On the basis of the results of this research, we suggest that various studies can develop student's creativity and teacher's recognition through STEAM education and must be presented for the successful STEAM education.

This study investigated two science teachers' practical knowledge shaped during their science classes which intend to realize social construction of scientific models. The teachers' practical knowledge was qualitatively examined in terms of five content categories defined by Elbaz through the reflection-in-action based on video data of their teaching as well as the reflection-on-action based on their narratives and interview data obtained after their classes. The results shows: 1) two science teachers implemented their practical knowledge on appropriate subject matter knowledge when they provided students with scaffoldings to support building scientific models during the classes. 2) The teachers' knowledge about science curriculum played important roles to change the purposes of the classes from the transmission of difficult science concepts to the construction of scientific model appropriate to learning goals. 3) The teachers' implementation of pedagogical knowledge changed toward supporting students' group activities and model generations aligned to the intention of social construction of scientific models. 4) The teachers' practical knowledge about their 'selves' showed that a teacher's perception and implementation of his/her roles of helper, guide, or facilitator are important for students to construct scientific models through group activities. 5) The two teachers' practical knowledge the milieu of schooling is realized by their modes of interactions with student groups during their classes. Two teachers acted like a co-player with his students or like a coach to students near a playground. We discussed domain-specific characteristics about scientific model construction.

In social studies the ability of a student to investigate after deciding the subject and individual planning to search for society and to put investigation reports in order has been taken as highly important. The social studies performance evaluation methods used most frequently in education is also one of the investigation report method. However, when most students get the task "Write the report", they might write the report without any distinct object or organized structure. The evaluation result given by the teacher at the end of term is thus one sided. The recent performance evaluation is to keep the existing evaluation and let only the result have importance, not the essential meaning. So this paper is to build and materialize a web-based performance evaluation system, to be able to evaluate a course of classes. This paper's purposes was to write the reports in setting the standard form that the students research and collect the various data as based in the system and to improve the quality of evaluation and to inspire the study motivation as acting the mutuality action among the students and between them and teachers as giving a feedback at once after evaluating among colleagues by suggested evaluation views.

This study is to analyze the dual language and hybrid identity of the students of Daegu Chinese Middle.High School. Such a phenomenon is being produced and changed at the site or zone of meeting different or conflict factors such as Chinese and Korean. The Chinese Korean students had learned Korean from their mother and her relative at a young age, and their dual and complex language habit was produced due to the learning of Chinese from father and his relative. A large number of the students were educated at a Korean kindergarten, but they were formally learned Chinese and China's society and culture at a Korean Chinese school after primary school. The Chinese Korean students talk with parents, brother and sister, teacher, friend and neighbor at home, school and local by Chinese and/or Korean. They use a dual language of Chinese and Korean based on various situations, but they do not particularly distinguished both language in cognition. The students have a hybrid identity of simultaneously recognizing Chinese and Korean. But some of them think Chinese or Korean. It is necessary for the results of this study to be objectified from the following research on the students of Chinese Middle・High School in Seoul, Incheon and Busan.
This study aimed to analyze the characteristic of undergraduate students' perception and preference for mathematics. For this purpose, I surveyed 124 undergraduate students' metaphorical expressions about mathematics. I classified the expressions as four categories: a positive form, a negative form, a mixed form, an undecidable form. I investigated the proportion and characteristic of the metaphorical expressions according to the above four categories. Also, I surveyed the students' preference and nonpreference moments for mathematics and categorized them into 6-cases: elementary school, middle school, high school, university, always, and none. In addition, I examined the students' preference and nonpreference reasons for mathematics and classified them according to the 5-factors: grade factor, affective factor, content factor, teacher factor, and other factors. The results of this study as follows: First, the 27% of university students expressed their metaphorical expressions for mathematics as a positive form, 42% as a negative form, and 27% as a mixed form. Also, the preference rate for mathematics was higher as their school years increase and the main reasons of preference were grade and affective factors. The result of nonpreference rate was also higher as their school year increased. Students said that the contents and grade factor were the main factors among the 5-factors.
