  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of career maturity on the relation between carrier barriers and senior nursing students's jobs seeking stress. Data analysis was conducted over 208 senior nursing students from three nursing schools in G city and J province. The research methods examined the influence of variables on dependent variable, with difference of carrier maturity. As a result, career barriers had a negative correlation with career maturity but had a positive correlation with jobs seeking stress. Also, career barriers had significant effects on jobs seeking stress(35%, F=109.89, p<.001), mediating effect of career maturity was significant(z=12.24, p<.001). Accordingly, the results indicated that career maturity could buffer the risk of jobs seeking stress of senior nursing student from career barriers. In conclusion, systematic measures are needed to lower career barriers and improve career maturity in order to reduce jobs seeking stress of senior nursing students. It is necessary to develop a strategy to develop career guidance information system that, is specialized in nursing course as well as counselling that utilizes individual ability development, self-esteem management and friend's system.

  • This study tested the relations of schools organizational climate and teachers' job stresses, perceived by 913 teachers from 45 elementary, junior- and senior-high schools. Pearson's correlation analysis for the relations between the sub-factors of both organizational climate and job stresses and cannonical correlation analysis for the relative contribution of individual variable of organizational climate upon job stress were applied for the test. The results of Pearson's correlation analysis showed that while 'intimacy', 'esprit', 'considerations', and 'production emphasis' climate had negative correlations with job stress sub-factors, 'disengagement' and 'aloofness' climate had positive correlation. 'Student guidance', a sub-factor of job stresses, did not have statistically significant correlation with any sub-factors of organizational climate. Findings from cannonical correlation analysis showed 2 significant cannonical functions to explain the relations between the sets of variables. 'Disengagement' from organizational climate positively contributed with 'authority forfeiture' and 'dissention and conflict' of the job stresses variables.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the role of life stress in the relation between health behaviors and bioethics awareness among paramedic students. Methods: This study recruited 238 paramedic students in F and R areas as participants. Multiple regression analysis was performed using Baron and Kenny's three-step procedure. Results: In the first stage, health behaviors had a significant effect on life stress (β=-.202, p<.01). In the second stage, health behaviors had a significant effect on bioethics awareness (β=.240, p<.001). In the third stage, life stress had a significant influence on bioethics awareness (β=-.167, p<.01). In the fourth stage, the regression coefficient of the third stage (β=.137) was less than that of the second stage (β=.159). In addition, when controlling for life stress, health behavior was shown to affect bioethics awareness (β=.206, p<.01). The mediating effect of life stress was found to be significant in the relation between health behavior and bioethics awareness (Z=2.04, p<.05). Conclusion: As health behavior is a factor that affects bioethics awareness through the mediation of living stress, universities should prepare training programs to improve the health behavior and reduce the life stress among students.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how much students stress have, how they cope with this stress, differences between problem behaviors and personality changes based on stress, and stress differing levels when coping with the situation either actively or passively The hypotheses were stated as follows. 1. There will be differences between problem behaviors and personality problems based on sex. 2 There will be differences between problem behaviors and personality problems based on grade. 3. There will be differences between problem behaviors and personality problems based on stress level. 4. There will be differences between problem behaviors and personality problems based on a student's ability to cope with stress. 5. Upper level students under lower stress and lower level students under higher stress will have more problems behaviors and more personality problems. 300 male/female high school students throughout the Seoul area were randomly selected. Of the 300 subjects that were sampled, 294 (Male=145, Female=149) actually participated in this study. The Stress Scale developed by Lazarus & Folkman (1984) Problem Behavior Scale, Personality Problem Scale, and Checklist were used and the conclusions are stated as follows. First, male students have more anti-social behavior and higher anti-social tendencies than female students and female students have more self-depreciation than male students. Second, upper level students have more anti-social behavior, self-ego, fabrication, and higher personality problems than lower level students. Third, students having too much stress have more anti-social behavior, self-ego, and fabrication and personality problems than students having less stress. Fourth, students coping with stress actively showed less self-ego and fabrication and less thought disturbance, anti-social tendencies, and self-depreciation than students coping with stress passively. Finally, upper level students under lower stress and lower level students under higher stress have more fabrication behaviors and more thought disturbance and self-depreciation.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the stress level of nursing students prior to clinical training and to examine the effects of aromatherapy on stress, stress perception, and mood during clinical practice. This study was a randomized control trial using a pre-post test conducted from May-July 2016. A total of 41 junior nursing students were recruited. The experimental group (n=22) underwent aroma inhalation using a necklace containing lavender essential oil and a control group (n=19) used a normal saline necklace. There were significant improvements in stress (p=.023) and mood levels in the experimental group (p=.006). The difference in stress perception between the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (p=.382). Aroma therapy might be useful for decreasing stress and improving their positive mood during clinical practice for nursing students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of nursing student's preceptorship and to compare the perception on the readiness of clinical competence between nurse preceptors and senior-level nursing students. Method: Data was collected with self-administered questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test. Study participants were 65 preceptors in one university hospital and 59 nursing students in the same university. Result: The knowledge and satisfaction about preceptorship in the nurse preceptor was 2.66 and 2.70 out of 5. Most of the preceptors (70%) agreed to the students preceptorship program even though the intention to be a preceptor was very low (14.1%). They responded that the merits of student preceptorship were self-development (29.7%) and knowledge acquisition (29.7%), whereas the disadvantages were increased workload (67.2%) and increased stress (23.4%). Requested rewards were monetary reward (44.4%) and promotion (33.3%). In all areas of clinical competence readiness, students' perception score was higher than preceptors'. Conclusion: Nursing education must reexamine current approaches to clinical teaching and seek methods to better prepare future nurses. These findings may serve as a guide to create an ideal students preceptorship program to place a greater emphasis on the competencies desired for providing high quality nursing services.

  • In the radically changing market situation, surface materials of student furniture are a very important element to decide the consumption pattern and the market price. Thus, this study examined the characteristics of surface materials by classifying the student furniture into children's, juniors', and seniors' furniture while accessing the features of such surface materials through Glulam, veneer, poly paper, finishing foil, high pressure melamine (HPM), and low pressure melamine (LPM), and PVC vinyl. When taking a look at the surface materials that were most frequently produced in each domestic furniture company, the combined materials that used more than 2 elements (31.88%), LPM (23.19%), and Glulam (20.29%) were introduced at the market in the order. Regarding the analysis made on colors, the combination colors took more than half (55.32%) followed by brown (13.83%) and beige (11.7%) in the order. Based on the results derived from the analysis, the study suggests to stress more importance to surface materials when developing student furniture and to exert efforts for the consistent development of new materials and quality improvement, as a way to accelerate the development of the furniture industry in Korea.
