The public perceptions about the cause of the poverty are generally considered as the important subject because they are assumed to have profound influences on the anti-poverty strategies, the features of the welfare system, and the welfare politics. Yet, there have been few studies on the public perceptions about attributions for poverty in Korea. In this article, we explore the popular perceptions about the causes of the poverty and investigate the determinants of the various beliefs about the causes of the poverty in Korea. The data derive from the Welfare Attitudes data of the 8th Korea Welfare Panel Survey. The results indicates that Koreans are more likely to support the individualistic explanations on the causes of the poverty than the structural and the fatalistic explanations. The results of regression model analysis show that there are differences in the determinants of the three types of poverty explanations, but subjective variables have the strong effects on all of the poverty explanations in Korea. In this study we find that Koreans are more likely than the western european welfare states to endorse individualistic explanations. These findings suggest that the underdevelopment of the welfare system in Korea is assumed to have the connection with the popular individualistic explanations. And, they suggest that there are needed to have notices to changing the public perceptions of the poverty and the cultural context of the social welfare in order to advance the welfare state in Korea.

In this study, an algorithm to predict evacuation routes in support of shipboard lifesaving activities is presented. As the first step of algorithm development, the feasibility and necessity of an evacuation route prediction algorithm are shown numerically. The proposed algorithm can be explained in brief as follows. This system continuously obtains and analyzes passenger movement data from the ship's monitoring system during non-disaster conditions. In case of a disaster, evacuation route prediction information is derived using the previously acquired data and a prediction tool, with the results provided to rescuers to minimize casualties. In this study, evacuation-related data obtained through fire evacuation trials was filtered and analyzed using a statistical method. In a simulation using the conventional evacuation prediction tool, it was found that reliable prediction results were obtained only in the SN1 trial because of the conceptual and structural nature of the tool itself. In order to verify the validity of the algorithm proposed in this study, an industrial engineering tool was adapted for evacuation characteristics prediction. When the proposed algorithm was implemented, the predicted values for average evacuation time and route were very similar to the measured values with error ranges of 0.6-6.9 % and 0.6-3.6 %, respectively. In the future, development of a high-performance evacuation route prediction algorithm is planned based on shipboard data monitoring and analysis.

Silk fibroin is a biocompatible and slowly biodegradable natural polymer. This natural polymer has excellent mechanical properties, non-toxicity, and non-immunogenic properties and has been demonstrated to support tissue regeneration. Also, gelatin is a natural material derived from collagen by hydrolysis and has an almost identical composition as that of collagen. Silk fibroin/gelatin scaffolds have been fabricated by using the freeze-drying method. To establish the scaffold manufacturing condition for silk fibroin and gelatin, we made scaffolds with various compositions of gelatin, glutaldehyde and silk fibroin. The silk fibroin/gelatin scaffolds were characterized using SEM, DSC, and water absorption ability tests. The cellular proliferation was evaluated by WST assay. These results suggested that a scaffold containing 8% of gelatin, 1% of glutaldehyde and 0.3 g of silk fibroin provided suitable characterstics for cell adhesion and proliferation. In conclusion, the silk fibroin/gelatin scaffold may serve as a potential cell delivery vehicle and a structural basis for tissue engineering.

Korean construction companies have maintained stable market share based on high technology and cost competitiveness although international construction market has been stalled due to increasing global economy uncertainties. However, Korean construction companies have relied heavily on the general types of projects in Middle East and Asia although the portion of different types of projects such as Build-Transfer-Operate (BTO), Build-Transfer-Lease (BTL), and Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) has been increasing in the market. When delivering huge projects requiring contractors deal with activities from project planning to operation, securing finance sources and profitability is deemed critical. Therefore, Korean construction companies need more attentions on the construction market supported by Multilateral Development Banks. However, Korean construction companies have not utilized effective strategies for the market entry and also government supportive policies are not useful enough to help construction companies. This study aims both to analyze the contract structure of Korean construction companies for presenting critical factors that need to be prepared and to suggest various methods that can be applied to support construction companies that have much interest in the Multilateral Development Banks. According to the results of study, it is important that Korean government provide structural information system, make a specialized organization, prevent over-heating among Korean construction companies, and collaborate with Official Development Agency. In addition, it appeared that the fairness and financial stability of project have recognized main advantages of the Multilateral Development Banks.
This study was done to analyze the trends of research on coping in Korea, to suggest future direction, for research on coping, and ultimately to contribute to an increase in explanation of adaptation. This article reviewed 79 nursing research papers on coping done since 1978 by examining them according to the period of publication or presentation, research design, type of subjects, measurement instruments, research for a degree or not, range of reliability, and association of coping and related variables. The results are as follows : The number of studies on coping increased rapidly from the mid-1980's and decreased slowly from the mid-1990's. The maority of the studies were surveys, comparative studies, or correlational studies. The subects of the 46 studies were healthy people, while those in the remaining studies were patients with a variety of illnesses. Thirth-eight studies on coping were done for master's thesis, three for dissertion, and 38 were not degrees. The Bell and Jalowiec coping scales have not been used since the early 1990's. In contrast, Lazarus and Folkman's W.C.C.L. has been used increasingly since that time. The reliabilities of the coping scale were reported in 37 cases and the Cronbach's alpha coefficients were .71 to .86. All subjects reported using more problem-oriented coping than emotion-oriented coping in short-term or emotion-oriented coping and healthy groups did more long-term coping. It was difficult to describe consistently the relationship between stress and coping according to the type of coping scale or research subjects, but generally moderate relationships were found. This was due to instrumental problems and no consideration of situational context. The subject group who used more short-term coping and less long-term coping reported poorer mental status, and higher scores in burnout and state anxiey than others. That is, the relationship between stress and adaptation increased the power of explanation with intervening the mediating effect of coping. The association of locus of control, mastery, social support, and self-concept with coping showed positive relationships : those of uncertainty and severity in illness with coping showed negativerelationships ; those of state anxiety and depression with short-term coping were positive, and those of self-esteem with long-term coping or problem-oriented coping were negative. There were significant differences in the scores of types of coping according to religion, level of education, and socio-economic status. That is, Presbyterians and Catholics, those with higher education levels and higher socio-economic status used more long-term or problem-oriented coping. On the basis of the above findings the following recommendations are made : 1. There is a need to test the mediating effect of coping variable in order to clarify the concept. 2. Longitudinal studies are needed to determine the patterns of change in coping strategies when stressful events are encountered. 3. It's necessary to develop a reliable and variable measurement tool for coping. 4. There is a need to identify subscales of coping to increase explanation of variance 5. It's necessary to consider personal, situational, and antecedent variables : the characteristics of subject populations, the natures of illness and treatment situations. 6. The power of explanation of studies designed to identify the stress-adaptation process should be increased using the combination model of process-oriented coping and cognitive-structural model.
The helical pile is a manufactured steel pile consisting of one or more helix-shaped bearing plates affixed to a central shaft. This pile is installed by rotating the shaft into the ground to support structural loads. The advantages of helical piles are no need for boring or grout process, and ability to install with relatively light devices. The bearing capacity of the helical pile is exerted by integrating the bearing capacity of each helix plate attached to the steel shaft. In this paper, to estimate the bearing capacity of moderate-size helical piles, 6 types of helical piles were constructed with different shaft diameter, plate configuration and the penetration depth. A series of field loading tests was performed to evaluate the effect of helical pile configuration on the bearing capacity of helical pile, constructed in two different shaft diameters (i.e. 73 mm and 114 mm). In the same way, the diameter of bearing plate was also changed from 400mm to 250mm with one or three plates. As well, the penetration depth was varied from 3m to 6m to analyze the relation between the penetration depth and the bearing capacity. As a result, not only the increase of the shaft diameter, but also the number or diameter of helix bearing plates enhances the bearing capacity. Especially the configuration of the helix plate is more critical than the shaft diameter.

Recommendations of ITU-T and ISO stipulate the managerial abstraction of static and dynamic characteristics of network elements, management functions as well as management communication protocol. The current recommendations provide the formal mechanism for the structural parts of managed objects such as managed object class and attributes. But the current description method does not provide the formal mechanism for the behavioral characteristics of managed objects in clear manner but in natural language form, the complete specification of managed objects is not fully described. Also, the behaviour of managed objects is affected by their temporal and active properties. While the temporal properties representing periodic or repetitive internals are to describe managed objects behaviour in rather strict way, it will be more powerful if more dynamic temporal properties determined by external conditions are added to managed objects. In this paper, we added dynamic features to scheduling managed objects, and described, in GDMO, scheduling managed objects that support dynamic features. We also described behaviour of managed objects in newly defined BDL that has dynamic temporal properties. This paper showed that dynamic temporal managed objects provide a systematic and formal method in agent management function model.

The leakage of tunnel causes the long-term durability of the structures such as concrete lining to deteriorate. The cause of durability degradation can be various substances contained in groundwater such as chloride, sulphate, water, and gas. In this study, a series of test were carried out to determine the watertightness performance and the resistance to salt water of the spray-applied membrane used as non-structural rock support or as a waterproof material for tunnels. As a result, it was found that the penetration of water could occur in a specimen, and the reason was that the internal pores generated by the mixing of the liquid polymer and the powder material and the internal pores were connected by the water pressure. The tensile strength of the test specimens immersed in distilled water and saline water was found to be reduced to less than half of the tensile strength in normal condition. In addition, The elongation was measured to be higher in distilled water than in salt water. However, this result will require further investigation.

The purpose of this study was to identify the variables that influence the intention of students to continue participating in SW education. Based on the TAM and reference to existing research on IT introduction, subjective norms, activity promotion conditions, programming related self-efficacy, perceived easy of use, and perceived usefulness were set as factors. We also tried to identify the structural causality between these factors and the intention to continue learning. The samples of this study were 204 elementary students participating in SW education. We collected our data by conducting web survey with these students for 1 month. Among the eight hypotheses set out in this study, the two hypotheses 'subjective norms will have a positive (+) effect on perceived ease of use' and 'perceived ease of use will have a positive (+) effect on Learning continuation intention' were rejected. The characteristics of the results are as follows. First, perceived ease of use indirectly influences learning intention through mediation of perceived usefulness. Second, in order to increase the intention of continuing learning, programming self-efficacy proved to be the most significant factor. The results of this study suggest that the usefulness of SW education and the programming self-efficacy of students should be improved for effective support of elementary school students' SW education.
