Compared to off-line, on-line word-of-mouth has fast dissemination speed and extensive effects based on interactive features. Moreover, in the age of Web 2.0, on-line media has made consumers evolve from simple purchasers to producers, who intervene into product manufacturing through on-line WOM. According to this, this study is conducted to clarify how consumer's prosumer propensity affects WOM in detail when purchasing fashion products on-line through website interactivity and perceived usefulness of WOM. The results are as follows. 1. Consumer's prosumer propensity is classified in four dimensions: the propensity to participate, the propensity to relate, the propensity to amuse and the propensity to create. 2. The sample has shown low prosumer propensity overall, and there were no gender differences. 3. Testing structural equation model, it was clarified that the higher the consumer's prosumer propensity, the higher the consumer's evaluation of website interactivity and thus the greater the WOM effect through its perception of usefulness. 4. There were some differences in the path of structural equation model according to consumer's prosumer propensity. From the results, it can be concluded that consumer's prosumer propensity is a key factor in the on-line WOM. Therefore fashion businesses should actively utilize consumer's prosumer propensity to apply their opinion in the product planning stage or use it as the means of company-friendly viral marketing.
Social media has become an integral part of consumers' daily lives. Individuals connect with one another on social networking sites to like, share, and post information and experiences. As social media become popular among millennials, a growing number of fashion retailers use social media networks in the context of online commerce transactions. Accordingly, an increased number of fashion retailers has been using social media as an advertising tool and a retail channel. Despite the popularity of social media among millennials, empirical findings are limited to reveal factors associated with young consumers' intentions to use social commerce in fashion shopping. This study sought to examine factors affecting millennials' intentions to use social commerce in fashion shopping by adopting the technology acceptance model. A total of 524 college students completed an online survey in the U.S. The results of structural equation model confirmed that perceived ease of use, usefulness, and enjoyment had a positive impact on millennials' attitudes and intentions toward fashion shopping in social commerce. While both perceived ease of use and usefulness positively influenced enjoyment, usefulness had a stronger impact than ease of use. Compared to usefulness, enjoyment had much stronger impact on attitudes. Further structural model analysis revealed a direct, positive influence of perceived usefulness of social commerce on perceived enjoyment of social commerce, which has not been explored in prior studies. These findings provide theoretical and managerial implications.
Expanding upon Zhang and Kim's (2013) study involving Chinese consumers, this study investigated key factors that influence U.S. consumers' attitude towards purchasing luxury fashion goods and purchase intent and examined what similarities and differences exist between the two consumer groups in relation to the key factors. A total of 414 respondents completed the online survey questionnaire. Structural Equation Modeling was utilized to analyze data. Brand consciousness, materialism, fashion innovativeness, and fashion involvement were significant factors that affect U.S. consumers' attitude towards luxury fashion goods. Overall, the findings of the current study were greatly inconsistent with Zhang and Kim's Chinese study. The inconsistency provides vital implications to luxury fashion retailers by showing that one size does not fit all and one strategy does not fit all markets.
Consumers often act impulsively when making internet purchases. Triggered by easy access to products, lack of social pressure, and absence of delivery impediments, impulse buying frequently occurs in the context of internet shopping. This study tests the structural equation model of the impulse buying process for fashion products when internet shopping and examines impulse buying process differences between Korean and Chinese consumers. A total of 985 usable questionnaires were obtained from college students. Data were analyzed by structural equation model analysis using a correlation matrix with a maximum likelihood by AMOS 21.0. Results showed that increased internet browsing by consumers resulted in more impulse buying as mediated by the urge to buy; in addition, more impulse buying by consumers resulted in a higher consumer satisfaction experience. Pure impulse buying created more important antecedents of satisfaction than the promotion-oriented impulse buying. Impulse buying showed a high similarity between Korean and Chinese consumers; however, increased influence from promotion activities resulted in more fashion product impulse buying for Chinese consumers versus Korean consumers. We confirm that one of the outcomes of the impulse buying process is impulse buying product satisfaction. Korean and Chinese consumers also present similarities and differences in fashion product impulse buying. A managerial implication is discussed for retailers of fashion products to develop strategies to increase consumer browsing and subsequently trigger impulse buying accompanied with consumer satisfaction.
This study investigated the relationship between fashion behavior, impression management behavior, and career success. A conceptual model and hypotheses were established based on theoretical linkages between the constructs. Thereafter, empirical data were collected using a set of questionnaires. For this reason, the sample was taken from 720 office workers' who worked at 14's Korea Enterprise, 697 of which was used for an empirical analysis (sample: men over 30 years of age and more than three years continuous service). This study conducted an exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis for the validity test. Cronbach's alpha test is used for the reliability test. Moreover, PLS structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to test hypothesized relationships in the conceptual model (SPSS 20.0 window/Smart PLS 3.0). This study shows that the proposed model is reasonably fit to the actual data. The following results were obtained from the analyses. First, fashion behavior and impression management behavior is positively related to career success. The result shows that economics of the fashion behaviors sub-types were statistically more significant to influence career success. The self-focused of the impression management behavior sub-types were more than statistically significant to influence career success. This finding has great implications to understand self-management behavior and the career success of male office workers.
The Purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the perceived luxury characteristic and consumer's conspicuous consumption on the fashion luxury involvement. The subjects were Korean 443 women from 20's to 50's living in Seoul. The reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation analysis by AMOS 4.0 were used for statistics analysis. The results are as follows; 1) The perceived aesthetic taste and luxurious aspect of fashion luxury directly influence on fashion luxury involvement through hedonic consumption value. 2) The perceived luxurious aspect and traditional value of fashion luxury directly influence on negative luxury consumption value, but negative consumption value does not influence on fashion luxury involvement. 3) The well-known brand orientation, face-saving consumption, and value orientation directly influence on fashion luxury involvement.
As the boundary between fashion and architecture is getting blurred, the interactions of the two fields are turning out abundant as well as essential. This study investigates the tectonic strategies in architectural fashion design as a novel aesthetic in the 21st century by combining literary survey and case analysis on architecture and contemporary fashion. The tectonic strategies in the works of architectural fashion designers were categorized as follows: organic geometry, technological garment construction, and independent space. Organic geometry transforms basic geometric shapes into subtle organic forms after being thrown on the body. Technological garment construction explores the garment structure and volume by applying the structural principle of suspension and fractal geometry. Independent space refers to maintaining the firm three-dimensionality of garment structure which keeps the distance from the body, assuming the similarity to architecture.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of LOHAS consumption tendency and of the perceived consumer effectiveness of young consumers on trust and purchase intentions regarding upcycling fashion goods. Data were collected from a questionnaire survey of 201 university students living in Daegu City, South Korea. The data were analyzed to investigate a structural model and test the research hypotheses, using the AMOS 20.0 statistical package. The results can be summarized as follows. First, LOHAS consumption tendency had a positive impact on trust in upcycling fashion goods. Second, LOHAS consumption tendency did not impact purchase intention with regard to upcycling fashion goods. Third, perceived consumer effectiveness had a positive effect on trust in upcycling fashion goods. Fourth, perceived consumer effectiveness had a positive impact on purchase intention with regard to upcycling fashion goods. Fifth, trust had a positive influence on purchase intention regarding upcycling fashion goods. The results of this study provide guidance for marketers and retailers who are interested in upcycling fashion goods.
The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of personal values on fashion orientation. As personal values, this study adopted materialism and consumer conformity. Data were gathered by surveying university students living in Seoul metropolitan area using convenient sampling, and 325 questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. In analyzing data, confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis were conducted using structural equation modeling. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that fashion orientation has three factors such as fashion leadership, fashion interest, and importance of being well dressed. Path analysis showed that centrality factor of materialism spurred all three factors of fashion orientation and that happiness factor of materialism gave rise to importance of being well dressed of fashion orientation. Informational conformity also significantly increased all three factors of fashion orientation.
This paper is an exploratory research to identify the structural model suitable for the fashion brand attitude effect process of VMD structural elements. Under the circumstances of severe competitiveness in price-conscious casual brand, we intended to find measurement model of VMD effect to establish plausible brand specific VMD strategy. Since VMD is regarded as one of marketing stimuli like advertising, we introduced Mackenzie, Lutz, and Belch(1986)'s advertising effect measurement model for the analysis. For the study, VMD structural elements were composed of controllable visual factors from store environment at the aspect of marketing strategy. As a result, the reciprocal mediation hypothesis model shows the best fit for the VMD stimuli. That is, under the cognition of interaction between VMD attitude and brand attitude, strategy must be considered to strengthen the attitude relation between VMD and brand. The second fit model was the dual mediation model which was adopted from Petty and Cacioppo's ELM. According to this, when you make use of VMD strategy, it is needed to consider both of affective and cognitive factors of VMD.
