  • This study analyzed Korean adults' perceptions of family functions and qualities needed for strong families. The sample consisted of 806 adults living in Seoul. Among different family functions, love and emotional support were considered the most important for family strength, while religion and consumption as family functions were not perceived as important. The surveyed adults thought that the function of socialization was the most essential among the family functions according to Murdock's(1949) theory, which were, sexual, reproductive, socialization, and economic functions. They responded that the most needed qualities for strong families were commitment, followed by appreciation and affection, positive communication, ability to cope with stress and crisis, enjoyable time together, and spiritual wellbeing. Adults' perceptions of family functions needed for strong families explained 27% of the variance in perceptions of qualities needed for family strengths. Finally, this study provides recommendations for future research.

  • In this work, the three-step intermixed iteration for two finite families of nonlinear mappings is introduced. We prove a strong convergence theorem for approximating a common fixed point of a strict pseudo-contraction and strictly pseudononspreading mapping in a Hilbert space. Some additional results are obtained. Finally, a numerical example in a space of real numbers is also given and illustrated.

  • Anosov families were introduced by A. Fisher and P. Arnoux motivated by generalizing the notion of Anosov diffeomorphism defined on a compact Riemannian manifold. Roughly, an Anosov family is a two-sided sequence of diffeomorphisms (or non-stationary dynamical system) with similar behavior to an Anosov diffeomorphisms. We show that the set consisting of Anosov families is an open subset of the set consisting of two-sided sequences of diffeomorphisms, which is equipped with the strong topology (or Whitney topology).

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and caregiving behavior in families who awarded on filial piety. Using the qualitative method 137 families and social supports to them were analyzed,. The major findings can be summarized as follows (1) Most of caregivers were daughter-in -law over 40 years in 3-generation or 2-generation family. Elderly can be characterized as oldest-old dependent long-term care for more than 10 years. (2) These families showed very high family solidarity with strong collectivity. (3) Their economic emotional and service cares were family-centered with helps from their extended family. These families were supported emotional helps rather than instrumental helps from social network. It was concluded that to help family elder care social support program for the frail elder caregiving families should be complemented in their children support program family life enrichment program for the inter-generational relationship medical care program other social network program and religion program etc. And more concrete and qualified study for the adaptation of filial piety families should be followed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the caregiving and adaptation in families who awarded on filial piety. Using the qualitative methods-in depth interview genogram ecomap participation observation- 8 families were analyzed The major findings can be summarized as follows (1) These families showed very high family solidarity with strong collectivity. Their family role was interchangable and their familiarity was passed down from generation to generation. (2) Family members showed similar coping patterns on the basis of their own adaptationl Their coping was inclined toward acceptance especially religioous rather than emotional-focused ad hardly avoidance coping. (4) Although their economic emotional and service cares were family-centered with helps from their extended family household equipment for elder care was not prepared. (5) These families preferred to maintain this condition rather than to be well adapted. It was concluded that to help failed elder's family care iving social support program should be complemented in family life enrichment program for their children medical care program equipment rental program for elder in social network religion program and so on, Social norms forparent-children relation has be changed to more flexible care pattern. Also more social-emotional support has to be given to these families.

  • The purpose of this paper is to prove strong convergence theorems for common fixed points of two families of weak relatively nonexpansive mappings and a family of equilibrium problems by a new monotone hybrid method in Banach spaces. Because the hybrid method presented in this paper is monotone, so that the method of the proof is different from the original one. We shall give an example which is weak relatively nonexpansive mapping but not relatively nonexpansive mapping in Banach space $l^2$. Our results improve and extend the corresponding results announced in [W. Takahashi and K. Zembayashi, Strong convergence theorem by a new hybrid method for equilibrium problems and relatively nonexpansive mappings, Fixed Point Theory Appl. (2008), Article ID 528476, 11 pages; doi:10.1155/2008/528476] and [Y. Su, Z. Wang, and H. Xu, Strong convergence theorems for a common fixed point of two hemi-relatively nonexpansive mappings, Nonlinear Anal. 71 (2009), no. 11, 5616?5628] and some other papers.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the attitude toward multi-cultural families. Method: The Q-methodology which provides a method of analyzing the subjectivity of each item was used. Thirty nurses classified the 34 selected Q-statements into a normal distribution using a 9 point scale. The collected data was analyzed using the Quanl PC program. Result: Four types of attitudes toward multi-cultural families were identified. The first type(value-neutral acceptance) considered multi-cultural families as individual's choice so they accepted it as one type of families and they persisted that nobody can oppose or blame for it. The second type(inevitable acceptance) considered multi-cultural families as a necessary evil that can solve the problem of old bachelors' seeking marriage. The third type (NIMBY: Not in my backyard) understood various advantage of multi-cultural families but they opposed their own family's intermarriage. The fourth type(negative prejudice) considered intermarriage as trading for the benefit of each other and they had strong antipathy against multi-cultural families. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that different approaches of educational program based on the four types of attitudes toward multi-cultural families are recommended.

  • Some strong convergence theorems of explicit iteration scheme for asymptotically nonexpansive semi-groups in Banach spaces are established. • The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a family life education program for children of institutionalized single-mother famines. Based on the strong family perspective and empirical research in this field, the program was developed to enhance children's self-esteem and social ability, and to help children accept diverse family patterns. The program consists of four 60-minute sessions. Ten children and their mothers in two institutions for single-mother families participated in this program. The results of program evaluation revealed that this program was helpful for promoting children's personality development and strengthening their family life of institutionalized single-mother famines. Conclusions and implications are discussed.

  • Using ethnographic methods, this study identifies the meaning of paternal experiences through a series of individual one to two hour interviews with men who have grandchildren. The interviewees consisted of twelve fathers from fifty to seventy years of age and the middle SES class. The results were as follows. First, adult-children-marriage and parent transitions were found to be important changes for men on their father's perception of their role as a father. Second, fathers with grandchildren felt happiness due to their grandchildren and held grandchildren as being important. Third, protecting and supporting their families was the main focus of paternity. Forth, the period of paternal experiences with grandchildren can be called "the stage of strong grandfather identity" because men who have grandchildren put more importance in the relationship with grandchildren than do their own adult-children, and grandchildren themselves play an important role in establishing male identity.
