Objectives : The Purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical application of conservative treatment for femoral neck stress fracture developed in avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Methods : Patient is hospitalized at Dept. of Oriental Rehabilitation Medicine, Bu-Chun Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital, diagnosed as femoral neck stress fracture developed in avascular necrosis of the femoral head and treated by herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion. This study was measured by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) score, range of motion and walking time. Results : After conservative treatment, the patient's pain was controlled and VAS score was decreased. Range of motion and walking time were improved. Conclusions : As seen in this one case, Oriental conservative treatment has a positive effect to control pain with femoral neck stress fracture developed in avascular necrosis of the femoral head.
The population over 65 years of age in Korea will be 10.3% of the entire population in 2008 indicating that Korea is already in an aging society. In addition, it is expected that Korea will be in an aged society in 2018 (population over 65 years of age : 14.3%) and that it will be in a post-aged society in 2026 (20.8%). Consequently, aged workers may also increase. It is well-known that the possibility to work longer and to live better is highly related to the work ability of individual. The objective of this study was to evaluate the work ability of each age group using the Work Ability Index(WAI) in the shipbuilding industry, and to assess the effects of social psychological stress, drinking characteristics, smoking characteristics, etc. on the WAI score. The results showed no significant difference on the effects of aging, drinking, and smoking characteristics. Interestingly, a statistical analysis on the effects of social psychological stress revealed a significant difference by stress levels. The difference of the average WAI score between the healthy group and the high risk group was about 10 points. Based on this result, it can be concluded that the stress level is an influential factor on WAI.
Purpose: The reproductive health of women in early adulthood can affect pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause in later life. Menstrual symptoms not only affect daily life, but are also a reflection of a woman's reproductive health. This study was conducted to explore the factors affecting menstrual symptoms among university students. Methods: The general characteristics, life style, menstrual characteristics, stress, and menstrual symptom of 177 female students were assessed through an online survey at one university. An independent sample t-test, one-way variance analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: The menstrual symptom score was 91.68±32.11 points, and the score of 'mood change' was the highest. Stress (=.38, p<.001), amount of menstruation (=.20, p=.001), menarche age (=-.18, p=.003), health problems (=.16, p=.010), and age (=.15, p=.016) were found to have a significant effect on menstrual symptom, and the explanatory power of the regression model was 40%. Conclusion: This study investigated the degree and influencing factors of menstrual symptom using the Korean Menstrual Symptom Scale (KMSS) developed for Korean university students. Among the factors influencing menstrual symptom, stress appeared to play a significant role. Stress management, observation of menstrual characteristics, and general health care are necessary to maintain a woman's reproductive health.
This study tried to evaluate the difference of stress degree by Sasang constitution and lifestyle for workplace labors, and suggested the preventive oriental medicine approaches in occupational health area. 479 data for research were collected through the process of oriental health examination with questionnaire in workplace, and collected data were analyzed with frequency, crosstab, and Two-Way ANOVA. The results were as follows: 1) All subjects, total 479 were men, and constitutional distributions were 39.2% of Taeumin, 32.4% of Soumin, and 28.4% of Soyangin. The distributions of stress score were 13.2% of normal group, 13.4% of high risk group, and 73.5% of potential risk group. 2) There were no statistically significant differences for stress by constitution(p=0.085). By the results of optimal scaling and homogeneity analysis, Soyangin was close to potential risk group compared to other constitution, and Soumin and Taeumin were close to high risk and normal group, respectively. 3) For the difference of stress score by Sasang constitution and lifestyle, Soumin who exercised nearly everyday had the highest stress score with interaction in Factor 4 area(p<0.05), and there was no interaction in other area. 4) For the difference of PWI score by lifestyle, there were statistically significant differences for drinking(p<0.01), smoking(p<0.01), and obesity index(p<0.01)
This study was conducted to evaluate the degree of stress state and the risk factors related to in 967 white collar workers and 275 blue collar workers by using Psycosocial Well-being Index. The results obtained were as follows : 1. In the white collar workers and blue collar workers, young age, low education and low income groups had high scores of stress, while in white collar workers, female had high scores of stress but in blue collar workers, male had high scores of stress. 2. According to psychosocial well-being index, mild stress sto were 73.9% and 53.1%, high risk stress state were 8.9% and 44.4%, and healthy state were 17.2% and 2.6% in white collar and blue collar workers respectively. 3. The total stress score was highly associated with the factors of depression, social performance and self-confidence, general well-being and vitality, and sleeping disturbance and anxiety in order. 4. In reliability test of stress factors, Cronbach's $\alpha$ coefficients of depression, social performance and self-confidence, general well-being and vitality, and sleeping disturbance and anxiety were 0.89, 0.81, 0.79, and 0.74 respectively. In conclusion, it suggested that age, sex, marital status, income, education, sleeping time, smoking and exercise habit were associated with stress score, all of the above factors should considered to occupational health.
The propose of this study is to examine the economic stresses and coping strategies for elderly households depending on the variables of background, and to analyze the relations between these factors. Elderly households which satisfied the following criteria were recruited for participation: (a) reside in Seoul, or in the metropolitan area (b) live apart from their adult children after retirement and (c) ages over sixty. From September 20th, 2006 to November 30th, 2006, 296 were used for this research. First, the mean score of the economic stress level of elderly households was 2.87 out of 5, and the stress levels of income expenditure and asset debt were intermediate. The mean score of the economic coping strategy was 3.17 out of 5. In order to overcome economic stress, elderly households utilized reducing their expenditure, financial management, and re-employment. The level of elderly households' life satisfaction was 3.29 of 5 and the depression was 3.17 of 5. Second, there was a difference in accordance with the objective economic variables and the degree of the economic stress after the review of the variables of the elderly households and the coping strategy due to economic stress. The result shows that the households which had a low economic status and high economic stress from the objective viewpoint participated in more economic activities. Their reactions were to decrease the overall expenditure through reducing the expenditure rather than to manage the asset effectively through re-employment or to inaugurating a business. Third, I analyzed situational factors, economic stress, and economic coping strategy in order to compare relative contributors to psychological well-being through using regression. At the third phase in the process of analysis, the socio-psychological factors appeared to be significant factors contributing to psychological well-being. Regarding the stress caused by income expenditure increased, when elderly households were more concerned about reducing expenditure and re-employment, their feelings of depression increased.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe levels of multiple stress factors and depression, and to examine the effects of the stress factors on depression among female marriage immigrants in Korea. Methods: Participants were 322 female marriage immigrants currently residing in Korea, who migrated from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and other Asian countries. Stress of female marriage immigrants was measured on the SMFMI (Stress Measure of Female Marriage Immigrants in Korea), consisting of 21 items in four factors (cultural, household economic, emotional, and parenting and discrimination stress). CES-D was used to assess depression among marriage immigrants. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA with Scheffe's post hoc tests, and multiple regressions were performed for data analyses. Results: The average score for stress was 1.34 (SD=.98, theoretical range: 0-4) and the average score for depression was 17.07 (SD=10.09) in these female marriage immigrants. Adjusting for household income, employment status, duration since immigration, and Korean language proficiency, household economic stress (p<.001) was identified as the strongest predictor in explaining depression of female marriage immigrants (Adjusted $R^2=.331$). Conclusion: Health care professionals should prioritize intervention strategies to alleviate household economic stress for mental health promotion in female marriage immigrants in Korea.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the job stress in home care nurses. Method: The subjects were 139 home care nurses of hospital in an urban cities. The data were collected from 26 Man to 27 June by self report adherence questionnaire. Job stress was measured using CHN-PWRSQ(Community Health Nurses Perceptions of Work-Related Stressors Questionnaire). Result: The average score of job stress was 60.8. There were significantly high levels of job stress in those who have less than 10 years office period, those who have less than 2000000 won monthly salary than in their counterparts. With regard to the level of job stress by item, 'driving long distance and traffic jam', 'risk of traffic accident', 'bad weather condition', 'uncooperative family members', and 'uncooperative client/patient' were higher than other items. The age and office period were negatively correlated with job stress. Conclusion: The average score of job stress was 60.8. Purpose: This study was to measure the degree of job stress and job satisfaction and the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction of 119 relief squads. Methods: The subjects were 170 members of 119 relief squads in the Fire Department of D City, and data were collected from 1 April to 20 April, 2006 through a survey using a questionnaire composed of questions on general characteristics (11 items), job stress (6 items) and job satisfaction (20 items). Collected data were analyzed through frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation using the SPSS program. Results: The average item score for job stress was 2.77. Role sharing with peers was highest as 3.05. There were significant differences in the degree of job stress according to religion, working period and applying motive. The average item score for job satisfaction was 2.93. Group conflict was highest as 3.18. There were significant difference in the degree of job satisfaction according to religion, working period and applying motive. There were significant differences in the negative correlation between role-sharing with peers among the job stress factors and decision-making factor (r=.53), group conflict factor (r=.58), role implementation factor (r=.63) and personal social-culture factor (r=.53) among the job satisfaction factors. Also, there were significant differences in the negative correlation between co-workers among the job stress factors and decision-making factor (r=.607), group conflict factor (r=.51) and personal social-culture factor (r=.45) among the job satisfaction factors. Conclusion: It is important to develop various methods of job stress management to increase job satisfaction in 119 relief squads.
Stress is a primary health promotion issue in worksite research because psychological distress is closely related not only to workers health status but also to their job performance. This study identified the work environment and work condition factors affecting workers stress symptoms among the Korean manufacturing factory workers. A total of 7,818 factory workers employed in 1,562 manufacturing companies participated in the Korean nation-wide occupational health survey conducted by the Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency in 2003. Participants were selected by the stratified proportional sampling process by standardized industry classification, company size, and locations. Trained interviewers visited the target companies and interviewed the factory workers randomly selected in each company. Work environments included physical work environments (temperature, noise, hazardous organic compounds, and so on) and psychological work environments (job demands, job control, and social support at work), and work conditions included daily working hour, rest time, and so on. Men were 71.5% and the mean age was 34.0 years old. The average working period in the present company was 6.9 years. The average stress score was 26.2 under the perfect score, 50, which means the moderate level of stress. Perceived stress had significant correlations with young age, poor physical work environment, high fatigue, bad perceived health status, and high job demands in Pearson's simple correlation analysis. Perceived health status and perceived fatigue explained 21% variance of stress symptoms and the work environment factor explained 4.8% of that; however, work condition did not have the sufficient effect. In particular, psychosocial work environment variables (job demand, job control, and social support at work) had a clear effect on stress symptoms rather than the physical work environments. Poor perceived health status, severe perceived fatigue, poor physical work environment, high job demands, low social support, heavy alcohol consumption and little exercise were significantly related to high stress symptoms in the Korean manufacturing workers.
