This paper deals with the characterics of the stability of uncontinuous plate structures with cracks. The relation between the J-intergal of the cracks existing in the stress-concentrated regions and local strain are investigated experimentally and theoretically. The BEM(boundary element method)analysis and test results lead to the follow conclusions: 1. A non-dimensional J was computed in a plate stress and strain condition for several kind of loads and crack types. The J design curves are defined as follows: J sub(E)/$\sigma$ sub(y) super(2) a=3.345(e/e sub(y) ) super(2) at e/e sub(y)$\leq$1 J sub(E)/$\sigma$ sub(y) super(2) a=3.345(e/e sub(y) ) at e/e sub(y)$\geq$1 2. Use of this curve provides a good estimation for the uncontinuous plate structures with cracks existing in the stress and strain concentrated region. 3. The stability of the characteristics is mainly depenent upon not the length of cracks but the type of the cracks.

Meteorological disasters caused by climate change like heat, cold waves, and unusually long rainy seasons affect the milk productivity of cows. Studies have been conducted on how milk productivity and milk compositions change due to heat stress (HS). However, the estimation of losses in milk production due to HS and hereby environmental impacts of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are yet to be evaluated in Korean dairy farms. Dairy milk production and milk compositions data from March to October 2018, provided by the Korea Dairy Committee (KDC), were used to compare regional milk production with the temperature-humidity index (THI). Raw data for the daily temperature and relative humidity in 2018 were obtained from the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). This data was used to calculate the THI and the difference between the maximum and minimum temperature changing rate, as the average daily temperature range, to show the extent to which the temperature gap can affect milk productivity. The amount of milk was calculated based on the price of 926 won/kg from KDC. The results showed that the average milk production rate was the highest within the THI range 60-73 in three regions in May: Chulwon (northern region), Hwasung (central region), and Gunwi (southern region). The average milk production decreased by 4.96 ± 1.48% in northern region, 7.12 ± 2.36% in central region, and 7.94 ± 2.57% in southern region from June to August, which had a THI range of 73 or more, when compared to May. Based on the results, the level of THI should be maintained like May. If so, the farmers can earn a profit of 9,128,730 won/farm in northern region, 9,967,880 won/farm in central region, and 12,245,300 won/farm in southern region. Additionally, the average number of cows raised can be reduced by 2.41 ± 0.35 heads/farm, thereby reducing GHG emissions by 29.61 ± 4.36 kg CO2eq/day on average. Overall, the conclusion suggests that maintaining environmental conditions in the summer that are similar to those in May is necessary. This knowledge can be used for basic research to persuade farmers to change farm facilities to increase the economic benefits and improve animal welfare.

Maintenance of adequate soil tension or content during the period of crop growth is necessary to support optimum plant growth and yields. A better understanding of soil tension and content for precision irrigation would allow optimal soil water condition to crops and minimize the adverse effects of water stress on crop growth and development. This research reports on a comparison of soil water tension and content variations in differently textured soils over time under drip irrigation using two different water management methods, i.e. pulse time and required water irrigation methods. The pulse time-based irrigation was performed by turning the solenoid valve on and off for preset times to allow the wetting front to disperse in root zone before additional water was applied. The required water estimation method was a new water control logic designed by Rural Development Administration that applies the amount of water required based on a conversion of the measured water tension into water content. The use of the pulse time irrigation method under drip irrigation at a high tension of -20 kPa and high temperatures over $30^{\circ}C$ was not successful at maintaining moisture tensions within an appropriate range of 5 kPa because the preset irrigation times used for water control could not compensate for the change in evapotranspiration during day and night. The response time and pattern of water contents for all of the tested soils measured with capacitance-based sensor probes were faster and more direct than those of water tensions measured with porous and ceramic cup-based tensiometers when water was applied, indicating water content would be a better control variable for automatic irrigation. The required water estimation-based irrigation method provided relatively stable control of moisture tension, even though somewhat lower tension values were obtained as compared to the target tension of -20 kPa, indicating that growers could expect to be effective in controlling low tensions ranging from -10 to -20 kPa with the required water estimation system.

This paper proposes simple formulae for buckling and ultimate strength estimation of plates subjected to water pressure and uniaxial compression. For the construction of a formula for elastic buckling strength estimation, parametric study for actual ship plates with varying aspect ratios and the magnitude of water pressure is carried out by means of principle of minimum potential energy. Based on the results by parametric study, a new formula is approximately expressed as a continuous function of loads and aspect ratio. On the other hand, in order to get a formula for ultimate strength estimation, in-plane stress distribution of plates is investigated through large deflection analysis and total in-plane stresses are expressed as an explicit form. By applying Mises's plasticity condition, ultimate strength criterion is then derives. In the case of plates under relatively small water pressure, the results by the proposed formulae are in good agreement compared with those by other methods and experiment. But present formula overestimates the ultimate strength in the range of large water pressure. However, actual ship plates are subjected to relatively small water pressure except for the impact load due to slamming etc.. Therefore, it is considered that present formulae can be applied for the practical use.

Recently urban areas have been advanced in the aspects of convenience, traffic, and cultural environments, but they have faced various problems including environmental issues, traffic congestion, and increasing stress. In contrast, rural areas are in charge of various functions, conservations of natural environments and traditional cultures. Rural life style may be beneficial to urbanites. As urbanites are increasingly interested in leisure activities, such as experiences of tradition cultures and education, safe foods and rural tourism are gaining attention as alternative ways of satisfying their desires. In other words, the rural tourism not only provides urbanites with leisure spaces by playing a role in relations between urban and rural areas, but also acts as a nonfarm income to the rural residents. With the changes of time, the number of current rural experience tourism on a nationwide is increasing and competition among locations is getting intensive. Particularly, despite various rural tourism villages in operation, there is not a standard in the dice for experience cost and accommodation costs. Accordingly, the aim of the study was to estimate urbanites' willingness to pay(WTP) for rural experience tourism and to provide basic data for qualitative growth and revitalization with regard to the tours. The estimated WTP for rural experience tourism was found to be 5,600won for experience, 5,600won for food, 42,000won for accommodation, and 13,000won for purchasing farm products, respectively. This trend could be similarly found (there were slight differences in food cost) on all analyses, such as the research of the current situations of rural tourism villages in Gyeongnam province, the pilot survey and the estimation depending on whether or not urbanites experienced the tours. In other words, the WTP for urban hands-on experience tours estimated by this study is considered highly significant in terms with possibility of its application in the sites. It is concluded that the urbanites' WTP for rural experience tourism obtained by this study will contribute to the setup of standard index of rural tourism, the qualitative development of rural hands-on experiences, and the raise of nonfarm income.

In this study, to investigate the effect of the stress reduction of group piles by dynamic loading, a dynamic p-y curve was established and the dynamic p-multiplier was calculated. Dynamic numerical analysis was performed by input sinusoidal waves to the bottom of the pile - ground system for $2{\times}2$ group pile, single pile and $5{\times}5$ group pile, single pile in dry sandy soil, and the pile spacing was changed to 2.5 and 5.0 times of the pile diameter. By establishing and comparing the dynamic p-y curves of the single pile and group piles, the dynamic group pile effect of the piles according to the pile center spacing and row position of the group pile piles is analyzed. $5{\times}5$ showed symmetry of the dynamic P-multiplier value around the pile origin coordinate. The dynamic p-multiplier value at the single pile, $5{\times}5$ pile (pile spacing: 2.5D) is 0.26 ~ 0.30 at the pile number 3, pile number 23, 0.14 pile number 13, and 0.14 ~ 0.38 at the pile number 5, pile number 18. These values differed from the static p-multiplier, especially due to the different loading conditions. The dynamic p-multiplier ($P_{dm}$) estimation through various types of input dynamic loads is expected to be used for dynamic design and analysis of group pile-ground systems of civil foundation structures.

This paper investigates the effects of tunnelling-induced ground movements on nearby structures, considering soil-structure interactions of different ground (loose sand, dense sand, soft clay, stiff clay) and construction conditions (ground loss). The response of four-story block structures, which are subjected to tunnelling-induced ground movements, has been investigated in different ground and construction conditions (ground loss) using numerical analysis. The structures for numerical analysis has been modelled using Discrete Element Method (DEM) to have real cracks when the shear and tensile stress exceed the maximum shear and tensile strength. The response of four-story block structures has been investigated with a ground movement magnitude and compared in terms of ground and construction conditions (ground loss) considering the magnitude of deformations and cracks in structures. In addition, the damage levels, which are possibly induced in structures, has been provided in terms of ground and construction conditions (ground loss) using the state of strain damage estimation criterion (Son and Cording, 2005). The results of this study will provide a background for better understandings for controlling and minimizing building damage on nearby structures due to tunnelling-induced ground movements.

Most of the steel bridges in Korea are being currently designed by the allowable stress design method that uses the conventional deterministic factors of safety. However the limit state design based on the concept of probability, statistics and reliability engineering is becoming very popular as a global standard deign method, leading the rational and economic bridge design. As part of the fundamental research to establish the load and resistance factor design(LRFD) of steel bridges considering domestic environmental conditions and regional characteristics, an experimental design is conducted by applying AASHTO-LRFD specification especially to a steel closed-box girder, which occupies relatively a large portion of steel bridges in Korea. Throughout the experimental design according to various sectional changes, some of the issues to be considered in the LRFD design of a composite steel closed-box girder bridge are examined. In this process, an Excel-based design verification program is developed for easy computation and prevention of errors. Quantitative reliability levels of the bridge sections designed by LRFD are also estimated using a reliability analysis method, and compared with the target reliability indexes applied in the LRFD design to verify the validity of the procedure and methodology used in this study.

In order to demonstrate the flow properties of the river bed and the design of hydraulic structures, the estimation of friction velocity is essentially required. However, existing friction velocity equations such as Log method and Power law have trouble to estimate the friction velocity because a boundary condition and various hydraulic properties are changed constantly in near the wall. In the present study, therefore, a new friction velocity equation that can minimize the parameters and reduce an error was suggested. To verify accuracy and reliability for the proposed equation, Clauser method, $\sqrt{gRI}$ method, reynolds stress method by Dr. Song were compared with the proposed method by estimated entropy parameter M for each channel. Consequently, the results show that uniform flow condition as well as non-uniform flow condition with highly accuracy nearly matched in case of accelerating non-uniform condition of $R^2=0.9621$, Decelerating Non Uniform condition of $R^2=0.9274$, Uniform condition of $R^2=0.8865$.

Degree days have been determined using temperature data measured at nearby weather stations to a site of interest to produce information for supporting decision-making on agricultural production. Alternatively, the data products of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) can be used for estimation of degree days in a given region, e.g., Korean Peninsula. The objective of this study was to develop a simple tool for processing the MODIS product for estimating cooling degree days (CDD), which would help assessment of heat stress conditions for a crop as well as energy requirement for greenhouses. A set of scripts written in R was implemented to obtain temperature profile data for the region of interest. These scripts had functionalities for processing spatial data, which include reprojection, mosaicking, and cropping. A module to extract air temperature at the surface pressure level was also developed using R extension packages such as rgdal and RcppArmadillo. Random forest (RF) models, which estimate mean temperature and CDD with a different set of MODIS data, were trained at 34 sites in South Korea during 2009 - 2018. Then, the values of CDD were calculated over Korean peninsula during the same period using those RF models. It was found that the CDD estimates using the MODIS data explained >74% of the variation in the CDD measurements at the weather stations in North Korea as well as South Korea. These results indicate that temperature data derived from the MODIS atmospheric products would be useful for reliable estimation of CDD. Our results also suggest that the MODIS data can be used for preparation of weather input data for other temperature-based agro-ecological models such as growing degree days or chill units.
