Therefore, many scholor believed that organizational effectiveness will be maximized in the condition of the fit between organizational structure and its contingency variables. But contingency theories have limitations in explaining of the manager's discretion by way of environmental determinism. In 1972, Child introduced strategic choice theory, and this perspective spurred significant, systematic studies of the influence of the managerial voluntary will on the organizational performance. Especially, the question of whether tap managers have an impact on business performance has been addressed by the strategic leadership theory that demonstrates strong associations between the characteristics of top managers, strategic orientation. Therefore, this study has investigated a theoretical literature and an empirical survey that explains the impact of top manger characteristics and organizational characteristics about strategic orientation. In order tn do that, this study develops a research model on the subjects, designed manager's characteristics, strategic typology. Managerial characteristics could be operationalized in terms of demographic measures. In this study, strategic orientation was classified using the Miles & Snow typology. This research model provides hypotheses. Hypotheses H1: The demographic characteristics of the tap manager will differ according to the types of strategic types. H2: The organizational characteristics of the firm will differ according to the types of strategic types. To test these hypotheses, this study conducted questionaire surveys on 108 firms in the Korea national wide. This study has utilized ANOVA, Chi-square analysis, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis for testing the hypotheses. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. First, this study builds on the central tenent of cotingency theory in provide a comprehensive explanation of the process by which top manager's influence. Second, Manager's characteristics(demographics) are different from each other according to 4 strategic types(Prospector, Defender, Analyzer, Reactor). Third, Organizational characteristics are different from each other according to 4 strategic types. In conclusion, the major contributions of this study are to examine the development of a more comprehensive theoretical framework in the strategic leadership theory and to analyze their contingent relationships among managerial characteristics, organizational characteristics and strategic types in the context of Korea's industry.

  • This study propose a model relating supplier's use of IOIS(Inter-Organizational Information Systems) to strategic benefits through extension of Subramani's research model. In extended model, collaboration serves as a safeguard for relationship-specific intangible asset. Specifically, we evaluate how two patterns of IOIS use by supplier(exploitation and exploration) relate to two specific types of relationship-specific intangible asset(business process specificity and domain knowledge specificity), which in turn are posited to promote collaboration and strategic benefits. To explore the current study, questionnaire survey was conducted on 72 first-tier supplier firms in the manufacturing industry. Based on the survey results, we posits the following : (1) Each pattern of IOIS use directly promotes a specific type of relationship-specific intangible asset. The path of the relationship between IOIS use for exploitation and domain knowledge specificity is positive but not significant. The other paths are positive and significant. (2) Both types of relationship-specific intangible asset have a positive and significant impact on collaboration. (3) Domain knowledge specificity influences on strategic benefits but business process specificity does not have an effect on them. (4) Collaboration affects supplier's strategic benefits. These findings provide a deeper understanding of the mechanism of how the pattern of IOIS use can result in strategic benefits for supplier firms.

  • Recently banking industry is experiencing fundamental changes by advancement of information technology. The traditional role of branches is rapidly being replaced with new electronic service channels such as ATM. Phone and PC for they are time-saving and convenient. Automated service channel strategy of retail banks is divided into two different ways, automation and networking. Automation is mainly focused on cost reduction related to the branch operation, while networking is on expansion of customer contact points. Strategic types of banks can be defined from a matrix model shere the positioning is determined by the extent of automation and networking. The effectiveness of automated channel strategy depends on how separate strategic types show their performance. Results for deposits and productivity will be given to verify the economic performance of each strategic type.

  • Using structural equation modeling, this study empirically examined the causal relationships among the level of advanced manufacturing technology (AMT), facilitation of alignment, the degree of strategic alignment of management eccounting Information systems (MAIS), and the improvement of production performance. The causal relationships between MAIS strategic alignment and information characteristics of MAIS were also investigated. The results showed that the level of AMT has a significant and positive impact on alignment facilitation. A significant causal relationship between alignment facilitation and MAIS strategic alignment was also found. It was shown that under high degrees of MAIS strategic alignment, MAIS must provide broad-scope and integrated types of Information. The causal relation-ships between MAIS strategic alignment and organizational performance were significant and positive. Thus, it is concluded that under high levels of AMT, a high degree of MAIS strategic alignment positively contributes to the improvement of production performance.

  • This study presents the strategic directions for Korean multi-brand fashion stores by running in-depth industry research and market analysis. Over 20 professionals were selected from Korean multi-brand fashion stores for this study and in-depth interviews were conducted to evaluate related subjects. The results of the study were as follows. First, Korean multi-brand fashion stores could be classified into three criteria: operating ownership, merchandise mix, and store identity. Second, operating ownership criterion was chosen for further investigations of strategies and directions of the multi-brand fashion stores. The operating ownership criterion consists of three types; department store types, specialty store types, and boutique types. Each type deploys different buying practice, organizational strategies, and distribution channels. Lastly, the suggested strategic directions for each type are summarized as follows. The 'department store type' should utilize its strong direct buying capabilities and acquisition of merchandising can be more effectively managed. The store should utilize its strong buying power as a tool to develop new private brands (PBs). For 'specialty store type', two key factors have been derived: market share expansion and positioning themselves to become a new distribution channel. To respond to these factors, the store needs to be perceived as a brand then diversify its business. Strengthening its brand will allow it to expand into a new distribution channel and also enable a strategic partnership with its competitor brands. The factors influencing 'boutique type' is personalization and uniqueness. With an emphasis on the uniqueness of products and merchandising it will be able to implement the role as a personal shopper and stylist to provide a very personalized service to its customers.
