Because of efficient space utilization and fast key search times, B-trees have been widely accepted for the use of indexes in HDD-based DBMSs. However, when the B-ree is stored in flash memory, its costly operations of node updates may impair the performance of a DBMS. This is because the random updates in B-tree's leaf nodes could tremendously enlarge I/O costs for the garbage collecting actions of flash storage. To solve the problem, we make all the parents of leaf nodes the virtual nodes, which are not stored physically. Rather than, those nodes are dynamically generated and buffered by referring to their child nodes, at their access times during key searching. By performing node updates and tree reconstruction within a single flash block, our proposed B-tree can reduce the I/O costs for garbage collection and update operations in flash. Moreover, our scheme provides the better performance of key searches, compared with earlier flash-based B-trees. Through a mathematical performance model, we verify the performance advantages of the proposed flash B-tree.
In this paper, we design and implement an efficient bulk-loading algorithm for CIR-Tree. Bulk-loading techniques increase node utilization, improve query performance and reduce index construction time. The CIR-tree has variable size of internal node entries since it only maintains minimal dimensions to decriminate child nodes. This property increases fan-out of internal nodes and improves search performance. Even though several bulk-loading algorithms for multi/high-dimensional index structures have been proposed, we cannot apple them to CIR-tree because of the variable size of internal node entries. In this paper, we propose an efficient bulk- loading algorithm for CIR-tree that improves the existing bulk-loading algorithm and accomodates the property of CIR-tree. We also implement it on a storage system MiDAS-III and show superiority of our algorithm through various experiments.

As IoT systems such as smart farms and smart cities become popular, a large amount of data collected from many sensor nodes is sent to a server in the Internet, which causes network traffic explosion, delay in delivery, and increase of server's workload. To solve these problems, the concept of fog computing has been proposed to store data between IoT systems and servers. In this study, we implemented a software platform of the fog node and applied it to the prototype smart farm system in order to check whether the problems listed above can be solved when using the fog node. When the fog node is used, the time taken to control an IoT device is lower than the response time of the existing IoT device-server case. We confirmed that it can also solve the problem of the Internet traffic explosion and the workload increase in the server. We also showed that the intelligent control of IoT system is feasible by having the data visualization in the server and real time remote control, emergency notification in the fog node as well as data storage which is the basic capability of the fog node.

Health information systems (HIS) are facing security challenges on data privacy and confidentiality. These challenges are based on centralized system architecture creating a target for malicious attacks. Blockchain technology has emerged as a trending technology with the potential to improve data security. Despite the effectiveness of this technology, still HIS are suffering from a lack of data privacy and confidentiality. This paper presents a blockchain-based data storage security architecture integrated with an e-Health care system to improve its security. The study employed a qualitative research method where data were collected using interviews and document analysis. Execute-order-validate Fabric's storage security architecture was implemented through private data collection, which is the combination of the actual private data stored in a private state, and a hash of that private data to guarantee data privacy. The key findings of this research show that data privacy and confidentiality are attained through a private data policy. Network peers are decentralized with blockchain only for hash storage to avoid storage challenges. Cost-effectiveness is achieved through data storage within a database of a Hyperledger Fabric. The overall performance of Fabric is higher than Ethereum. Ethereum's low performance is due to its execute-validate architecture which has high computation power with transaction inconsistencies. E-Health care system administrators should be trained and engaged with blockchain architectural designs for health data storage security. Health policymakers should be aware of blockchain technology and make use of the findings. The scientific contribution of this study is based on; cost-effectiveness of secured data storage, the use of hashes of network data stored in each node, and low energy consumption of Fabric leading to high performance.
Data-centric storage schemes(DCS) are one of representative researches that efficiently store and manage sensor readings in sensor nodes in the sensor networks. In DCS, a sensor sends the sensed data to a specific node in order to store them. However, it has a problem that sensor nodes consume a lot of energy for transmitting their readings to remote sensor node. In this paper, we propose a novel sensor data compression algorithm to reduce communication costs for DCS. The proposed algorithm establishes a safe region and transmits the sensed data only when current measurement is out of the safe region, As a result, the proposed algorithm extends network life time and reduces data transmission. It is shown through performance evaluation that our proposed algorithm reduces energy consumption by about 60% over the conventional algorithm.
$Ge_{2}Sb_{2}Te_5$(GST) thin film at present is a promising candidate for a phase change random access memory (PCRAM) based on the difference in resistivity between the crystalline and amorphous phase. PCRAM is an easy to manufacture, low cost storage technology with a high storage density. Therefore today several major chip in manufacturers are investigating this data storage technique. Recently, A. Pirovano et al. showed that PCRAM can be safely scaled down to the 65 nm technology node. G. T Jeonget al. suggested that physical limit of PRAM scaling will be around 10 nm node. Etching process of GST thin ra films below 100 nm range becomes more challenging. However, not much information is available in this area. In this work, we report on a parametric study of ICP etching of GST thin films in $Cl_2$/Ar chemistry. The etching characteristics of $Ge_{2}Sb_{2}Te_5$ thin films were investigated using an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) of $Cl_2$/Ar gas mixture. The etch rate of the GST films increased with increasing $Cl_2$ flow rate, source and bias powers, and pressure. The selectivity of GST over the $SiO_2$ films was higher than 10:1. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) was performed to examine the chemical species present in the etched surface of GST thin films. XPS results showed that the etch rate-determining element among the Ge, Sb, and Te was Te in the $Cl_2$/Ar plasma.

Recently, the I/O performance of a single node is rapidly improving due to the advent of high-performance SSD. As a result, the next-generation storage platform based on SSD has received a great deal of attention and such storage platforms are increasingly adopted to commodity servers or data centers that look for the high-bandwidth computation and I/O. However, building all SSD-based storage platform may not be cost-effective because the price per storage capacity is very high as compared to that of HDD. In this paper. we propose a hybrid file management solution, called HyPLVM(Hybrid Priority Logical Volume Manager), which combines the strength of SSD with the desirable aspects of low-price, high-storage capacity HDD. HyPLVM prioritizes the files and directories to be accessed by users, in order to determine the target storage device (SSD/HDD) in which files are allocated, while mitigating the cost of building storage platforms.

An experiment on the devices that enchance the stratification of storage tanks in a solar heat ins system has been carried out. The benefits of thermal stratification in sensible heat storage are to increase the system performance such as the collector efficiency or the fraction of the total load supplied by solar energy. Using the diffuser and the distributor as the stratification enchancement device, the expeliments were perfomed in the different condition of diameter and material of the distributor. As a result of experiments, there exists the diameter of distributor in which the stratification is made maximum under certain design and operation condition. Also it was identified that the kind of distributor material influenced the degree of stratification. Comparing the experimental result to the computational results calculated under the same conditions, the node number N(stratification index) was determined. The results of computer simulation that was performed about the actual solar heating system in Seoul for 24 hours show the relative advantage of stratified over well-mixed storage and the significant improvements in system performance.

In this paper, Though sensors of Ubiquitous Middle-ware System based on RFID/USN can usually be reacted from six mouths to two years, they can be exhausted their power of storage battery only one day by communication rates and ranges. That is, the lifetime of sensor node is depended on how much spending power under wireless communication that can communicate its sensing data to its destination. Therefore, it is necessary that each sensor should be designed the Routing path to its destination, in order to remote collecting data. But, in order to improve lifetime of sensor node and modify inner setting, it is opposite to simple searching path method of sensor node by entering external commands. accordingly, 1:n sensor arrangement of n form command and data send-receive that is possible simulation do without interference other sensors and research to different sensor data analysis and conversion ways to convert Sensing data that accept from sensors to actuality information.

The distributing board in directly installed on the ground or the bottom surface of the building, and when vibrations such as earthquakes or external shocks occur, the possibility of damage or malfunction of electric components such as internal power devices, wiring, and protection relays increases. Recently, the need for a seismic type distributing board is increasing, and research and development of a distributing board having a vibration damping function and product launch are being conducted. In this paper, an IoT-based data collection device system capable of measuring vibration and environmental data of distributing board was designed and implemented. When vibration occurred on the distributing board, data was stored and visualized in the MySQL DB through Node-RED for monitoring and data storage using the MQTT protocol for reliable messaging transmission. The test was conducted by attaching the IoT device of the distributing board, and data was collected in real-time and monitored through Node-RED.
