탄소섬유강화플라스틱 재료 레저선박의 구조강도 평가를 위한 시험설비 구축과 운용에 관한 연구 (The Development of Structural Test Facility for the Strength Assessment of CFRP Marine Leisure Boat)

  • This paper deals with the development of structural test facility for the strength assessment of marine leisure boat built from carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) materials. The structural test facility consists of test jig, load application and control system, and data acquisition system. Test jig, and load application and control system are designed to accommodate various size and short span to depth ratios of single skin, top-hat stiffened and sandwich constructions in plated structural format such as square and rectangular shapes. A lateral pressure load, typical and important applied load condition to the plates of the hull structure for marine leisure boat, is simulated by employing a number of hydraulic cylinders operated automatically and manually. To examine and operate the structural test facility, five carbon/epoxy based FRP square plates having the test section area of $1m^2$, which are part of CFRP marine leisure boat hull, are prepared and they are subjected to monotonically increasing lateral pressure loads. In the test preparation, considering the symmetry of the plates geometry, various strain gauges and linear variable displacement transformer are used in conjunction with data acquisition system utilizing LabVIEW. From the test observation, the responses of the CFRP hull structure of marine leisure boat are understood by obtaining load to deflection and strain to load curves.

Structural behavior of the stiffened double-skin profiled composite walls under compression

  • Steel-concrete composite walls have been proposed and developed for applications in various types of structures. The double-skin profiled composite walls, as a natural development of composite flooring, provide structural and architectural merits. However, adequate intermediate fasteners between profiled steel plates and concrete core are required to fully mobilize the composite action and to improve the structural behavior of the wall. In this research, two new types of fasteners (i.e., threaded rods and vertical plates) were proposed and three specimens with different fastener types or fastener arrangements were tested under axial compression. The experimental results were evaluated in terms of failure modes, axial load versus axial displacement response, strength index, ductility index, and load-strain relationship. It was found that specimen with symmetrically arranged thread rods sustained more stable axial strain than that with staggered arranged threaded rods. Meanwhile, vertical plates are more suitable for practical use since they provide stronger confinement to profiled steel plate and effectively prevent the steel plate from early local buckling, which eventually enhance the composite action and increase the axial compressive capacity of the wall. The calculation methods were then proposed and good agreement was observed between the test results and the predicted results.

An algorithm for quantifying dynamic buckling and post-buckling behavior of delaminated FRP plates with a rectangular hole stiffened by smart (SMA) stitches

  • Dynamic buckling of structure is one of the failure modes that needs to be considered since it may result in catastrophic failure of the structure in a short period of time. For a thin fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) plate under compression, buckling is an inherent hazard which will be intensified by the existence of defects like holes, cracks, and delamination. On the other hand, the growth of the delamination is another prime concern for thin FRP plates. In the current paper, reinforcing the plates against buckling is realized by using SMA wires in the form of stitches. A numerical framework is proposed to simulate the dynamic instability emphasizing the effect of the SMA stitches in suppressing delamination growth. The suggested algorithm is more accurate than the other methods when considering the transformation point of the SMA wires and the modeling of the cohesive zone using simple and yet reliable technique. The computational design of the method by producing the line by line orders leads to a simple algorithm for simulating the super-elastic behavior. The Lagoudas constitutive model of the SMA material is implemented in the form of user material subroutines (VUMAT). The normal bilinear spring model is used to reproduce the cohesive zone behavior. The nonlinear finite element formulation is programmed into FORTRAN using the Newmark-beta numerical time-integration approach. The obtained results are compared with the results obtained by the finite element method using ABAQUS/Explicit solver. The obtained results by the proposed algorithm and those by ABAQUS are in good agreement.

선박해양구조물의 최종강도 해석용 프로그램 ALPS 적용사례 (ALPS Ultimate limit state assessment of ships and offshore structure)

  • It is now well recognized that the ultimate limit state approach is a much better basis for design and strength assessment of ships and offshore structures since it is difficult to determine the realistic margin of safety using the traditional allowable working stress approach on the basis of linear elastic method solutions together with buckling strengthchecks adjusted by a simple plasticity correction. This paper outlines ALPS theory for ultimate limit state assessment of ship structures. ALPS is a computer software which stands for nonlinear Analysis of Large Plated Structures. Application examples of ALPS program to ultimate limit state assessment of plates, stiffened panels and ship hull girders are presented. A benchmark study is made by a comparison with the ALPS solutions with other methods including class rule formulae, nonlinear finite element methods and experimental results.   • 압축을 받는 판 구조의 경제적인 단면 보강을 위해 종방향 보강재인 U형 단면 리브를 적용하는 것이 효과적이나, 현재 국내에서는 명확한 설계지침이나 연구자료가 제시되지 못하고 있다. 따라서 U리브의 적정 크기 및 최적 간격에 대해 검토 후 이에 관한 지침이 제시될 필요성이 있다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 U리브의 단면 크기 및 강성에 따른 탄성좌굴강도 및 좌굴모드의 변화를 알아보고자 한다. 유한요소해석 프로그램인 ABAQUS를 이용하여 고유치 해석을 실시하였고, 이론값과 해석적 결과의 탄성좌굴강도를 비교하였다. 이러한 분석 결과를 토대로 향후 U리브의 최소소요강성 및 단면 선정방안을 제시하는데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

An 8-node assumed strain element with explicit integration for isotropic and laminated composite shells

  • Formulation of an 8 nodes assumed strain shell element is presented for the analysis of shells. The stiffness matrix based on the Mindlin-Reissner theory is analytically integrated through the thickness. The element is free of membrane and shear locking behavior by using the assumed strain method such that the element performs very well in modeling of thin shell structures. The material is assumed to be isotropic and laminated composite. The element has six degrees of freedom per node and can model the stiffened plates and shells. A great number of numerical testing carried out for the validation of present 8 node shell element are in good agreement with references.

  • 이동 집중력 및 집중질량에 의한 이동하중을 받는 직사각형 보강판에 대하 여 보강재효과집중 모델링방법에 의거하여 보강판을 등방성 박판 및 보강재 효과를 반영한 등가보요소로 이루어진 판-보 조합체로 유한요소 모델링하고 Newmark의 직접 시간적분법을 이용한 동응답 해석방법을 정식화하였다. 일 련의 수치계산 예를 통하여 본 연구에서 제시한 방법이 이동하중을 받는 보 강판의 동응답 해석문제에 효과적으로 적용될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 아울러 parametric study를 통하여 이동하중이 작용하는 보강판의 동응답특성은 이 동하중의 질량효과를 고려하는 경우와 고려하지 않는 경우 매우 달라지며, 이동하중에 의한 동적응답은 이동속도가 증가할수록 정하중에 의한 응답보 다 증폭되어 나타나고 증폭비율이 질량효과를 고려할 경우 훨씬 더 커짐을 확인하였다.

Wave Propagation in the Strip Plate with Longitudinal Stiffeners

  • It is important to understand the vibrating behavior of plate structures for many engineering applications. In this study, vibration characteristics of strip plates which have finite width and infinite length are investigated theoretically and numerically. The waveguide finite element approach is used in this study which is known as an effect tool for waveguide structures. WFE method requires only cross-sectional FE model and uses theoretical harmonic solutions for the wave propagation along the longitudinal direction. First of all for a simple strip plate, WFE results are compared with theoretical ones such as the dispersion diagrams, point mobilities, etc. to validate the numerical model. Then in the numerical analysis, the several different types of longitudinal stiffeners are included to the plate model to investigate the effects of the stiffeners in terms of the dispersion curves and mobilities.

  • A general stiffener element which includes transverse shear deformation(TSD) is formulated using the p-version of finite element method. Hierarchic C"-shape functions, derived from Integrals of Legendre polynomials, are used to define the assembled stiffness matrix of the stiffener and plate on the basis of 5 D.0.F displacement fields. The stiffness matrix for the stiffener with respect to the local reference frame is transformed to the plate reference system by applying the appropriate transformation matrices in order to insure compatibility of displacements at the junction of the stiffener and plate. The transformation matrices which account for the orientation and the eccentricity effects of the stiffener with respect to the plate reference axes are used to find local behavior at the junction of the stiffener and the relative contributions of the plate and stiffener to the strength of the composite system. The results obtained by the p-version of the finite element method are compared with the results in literatures, especially those by the h-version software, MICROFEAP-II.P-II.

보강재를 가진 무한길이 띠 평판의 진동해석 (Wave Propagation in a Strip Plate with Longitudinal Stiffeners)

  • 보강재를 가진 평판 구조로 이루어진 많은 구조물의 진동 현상을 해석하기 위해서는 평판 요소에 대한 진동 특성을 이해하는 것이 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 폭이 유한하고 길이가 무한한 띠 평판의 진동 특성을 이론 해석과 수치 해석을 통해 알아보고자 한다. 수치 해석 기법으로는 단면의 형상이 길이 방향으로 일정한 도파관 구조물의 진동 해석에 효과적인 도파관유한요소법(waveguide finite element method)을 사용한다. 도파관유한요소법은 구조물의 2차원 단면만을 유한요소 모델링하고, 길이 방향으로는 파동이 조화 진동하면서 전파한다고 가정한다. 이 논문에서는 먼저 띠 평판의 분산 선도와 가진점 모빌리티에 대한 수치 해석 결과를 이론 해석 결과와 비교하여 수치 해법의 타당성을 검증한다. 그리고 수치 해석을 이용해 보강재가 부착된 평판에 대한 분산 선도와 가진점 모빌리티를 구하고, 보강재가 띠 평판의 파동 전파 및 진동에 미치는 영향을 검토한다. 마지막으로 보강재가 부착된 이중 평판(double plate)에 대해 분산 선도를 구하고, 이로부터 파동 전파 특성을 살펴본다.
