A prototype cut-flower sorter was developed and tested for its performance with five varieties of roses. Support plates driven by a chain mechanism transported the roses into an image inspection chamber. Color image processing algorithms were developed to evaluate the length, thickness, and straightness of stem and color, height, and maturity of bud. The average absolute errors of the system for the measurements of stem length, stem thickness, and height of bud were 19.7 mm, 0.5 mm, and 3.8 mm, respectively. The results of classification by the sorter were compared with those of a human inspector for straightness of stem and maturity of bud. The classification error for the straightness of stem was 8.6%, when both direct image and reflected image by a mirror were analyzed. The accuracy in classifying the maturity of bud varied among the varieties, the smallest for‘Nobless’(1.5%) and the largest for‘Rote Rose’(13.5%). The time required to process a rose averaged 2.06 seconds, equivalent to the capacity of 1,600 roses per hour.
This study was conducted to analyze the responses of some agronomic traits to the different cultural environments and relations among the agronomic traits for selecting sesame varieties with higher cultural stabilities. The indexes for stability parameters measured were coefficient of variability, heritabilities, genetic correlations and path coefficients of agronomic traits according to locations and years in Korea. The heritabilities of agronomic traits showed different by locations and years. Number of seeds per capsule and 1000 seeds weight showed higher heritabilities, but stem length and seed weight per plant showed relatively lower heritabilities. Average heritabilities of some agronomic traits in 1998 were comparatively higher than those of 1999. Of six areas, Jinju area showed biggest coefficient of yield variability in 1998-1999. Iksan and Taegu areas showed higher heritabilities in 1998, but Iksan and Jinju areas showed lower heritabilities in 1999. Genetic correlations were slightly higher than corresponding phenotypic correlations. Stem length showed positive genetic correlation with the number of capsules per plant, and seed weight per plant and the number of capsule per plant showed positive genetic correlation with seed weight per plant. On the analysis of path coefficients, stem length and number of capsules effected highly on grain yield. Great regional variations were observed on the effects of agronomic traits on grain yield. Higher direct effects of stem length on grain yield were observed at Suwon, Chungwon, Taegu, Jinju and Naju areas, but in Iksan area was observed higher direct effect of the number of capsules per plant on grain yield in 1998. In 1999, higher direct effect of stem length on grain yield was observed at Chungwon and Suwon areas. Iksan and Taegu areas were also observed higher direct effect of the number of capsule per plant on grain yield.
Five years old ginseng plant (Panax ginseng) with ten stems from six bud base was found in a ginseng plantation. Stems were emerged even around the rhizome base. Growth status of all stems were poor. The length of some stems was shorter than that of petiole. The shorter the stem length is the longer the petiol length.
Q. mongolica and Q. dentata are representative species of deciduous forest communities in Korea and are known to be relatively resistant to soil drying condition among Korean oaks. This study attempted to elucidate the degree of competition and ecological niche characteristics of the two species by comparing the ecological responses of the two species according to soil moisture. Competition between Q. mongolica and Q. dentata was shown to be more intense under the conditions where moisture content was low than under the conditions where moisture content was high. As for the ecological niche overlaps of the two species for soil moisture, the structural traits of plant such as stem diameter overlapped the most, the traits of biomass such as petiole weight overlapped the least, and photosynthetic organ-related traits such as leaf width and length overlapped intermediately. When looking at the competition for soil moisture between the two species, it can be seen that Q. mongolica won in nine traits (leaf width length, leaf lamina length, leaf lamina weight, leaf petiole weight, leaf area, leaves weight, shoot weight, root weight, and plant weight) and Q. dentata won in the remaining seven traits (leaf petiole length, leaves number, stem length, stem diameter, stem weight, shoot length, and root length). Competition between the two species for the moisture environment of the soil was shown to be intense under the conditions where moisture content was low. The degree of competition between Q. dentata and Q. mongolica for soil moisture is high under the conditions where soil moisture content is low, and it is judged that Q. mongolica is more competitive for soil moisture than Q. dentata.

The plant type is generally one of the most important factor for crop production and be influenced by nitrogen absorption. Soybean plants have nodules in their roots, supplying nitrogen at the vegetative and reproductive stages. Root nodules seem to effect plant type of soybean plants, but there are few reports on the relation nodules and plant type. We tried to clarify the effects of root nodules on the plant type, especially internode length and petiole length, comparing non-nodule soybean with normal soybean. The pot experiment and field experiment were carried out at Mie University and Utsunomiya University in 2015 and 2016. Enrei, a popular cultivar in central Japan, and En1282, non-nodulating isogenic line of Enrei, were used. The petiole length on main stem was measured after defoliation and internode length and yield components were measured after harvest. In the field experiment, the patterns of the final length in internode and petiole on main stem were consistent in both cultivars, and a positive correlation was found between the Nth petiole length and the N-1th internode length, belong to the same phytomere. Therefore, the petiole and internode on the main stem make similar response for environmental factors. In pot experiment, Enrei grew with the same pattern as field experiments, but in En1282, the elongation of petiole and internode in the upper part was suppressed, especially the petiole was suppressed greatly. The main stem becomes the basis of the plant type. These results were considered that the nitrogen is distributed preferentially to the internode than the petiole. It seems that the pot cultivation restricted the rhizosphere and caused nitrogen deficiency in En1282. These results suggested that the slight nitrogen deficiency provided from the root nodules was compensated by the increase of the amount of inorganic nitrogen absorption due to the expansion of the rhizosphere, and the severe nitrogen deficiency suppressed elongation of petiole and internode. It is clear that root nodules effect the plant type by supplying nitrogen to internodes and petioles.
The optimal growth condition of in vitro stem cutting of Dendrobium nobile 'Hamana Lake Dream' ${\times}$ 'No. 55' was investigated. Among various media and their concentrations, MS media had better effect on the growth of micro stem cutting than Hyponex media in all concentration levels except stem length. The activated charcoal concentration in MS media showed different effects on number of stem and root, leaf length, and fresh weight: the most effective in the range of 0.1 to 1.0 g/L and barely effective above 2.0 g/L. Addition of agar 5 g/L, sucrose at 40 g/L, and peptone at 1 g/L to MS media increased significantly stem length, leaf width, and fresh weight, internode length and number of roots, and the number of stem and leaves. On the other hand, addition of gelite with any concentration had no effect on the growth of micro stem cutting compare to that of control. The optimal temperature for growth of micro stem cutting was $28^{\circ}C$. Under the same temperature, MS medium was better than Hyponex medium for the growth of stem. In addition, sucrose at 40 g/L was the most effective on growth at $28^{\circ}C$.

Ionization chambers often exhibit a stem effect, caused by interactions of radiation with air near the chamber end, or with dielectric in the chamber stem or cable. In this study measured stem effect correction factor for length of ionization chamber from medical linear accelerator recommend to with the use of stem correction method. For a model of the Farmer-type chamber, were used to calculate the beam quality correction factor. These interactions contribute to the apparent measured exposure. Additionally, it needs to consider ionization chamber use of small volume and stem effect of cable by a large field. Linear accelerator generated photons energy and increased dose repeatedly measured by using stem correction method. Stem effect was dependence of the energy and increases with photon energy conditions improved of beam quality. In conclusion, stem effect correction factor was measured within 0.4% calculated according to the exposures stem length and also supposed to determined below 1% of another stem correction method.
The term underground stem is not used correctly as mesocotyle that is the first internode of barley, wheat and rye. Mesocotyle does not elongate and it remain in the seed in case of these crops. The elongated stem is second internode of these crops and not mesocotyle but rhizome or underground stem. The node on which the underground stem is attached is coleoptile node and coleptile is attached here. The objective of this study was to determine if the depth of sowing affect the coleoptile length and plant height. The deeper sowing caused the longer coleoptile length and plant height. Coleoptile length and plant height of 2cm depth of sowing showed significant difference with 6cm and 10cm depth of sowing in barley and wheat. Variation of these two characters were high in rye and corn because these crops were both heterogeneous due to out crossing. All the varieties of 4 crops showed significant correlation between coleoptile length and plant height. Chilbohomil showed highly significant correlation between two characters.

In this study, the effect of stem-end design on contact pressure and stress distribution in revision TKR was investigated using finite element method. The finite element model of tibia, including the cortical bone, the cancellous bone and canal, was developed based on CT images. The implant models with various stem lengths, diameters, friction coefficients, and press-fit effects were considered. The results showed that the longer stem length, the stronger press-fit, the bigger stem diameter, and the higher friction coefficient increased both peak contact pressure and Von-Mises stress distributions. The results supported the clinical hypothesis that peak contact pressure and stress are related to the stem end pain. The results of this study will be useful to design the stem and reduce the end-of-stem pain in revision TKR.
This experiment was performed to obtain the basic information on heterosis and heterobeltiosis of quantitative characters in the eggplant by crossing of varieties. The heterosis and heterobeltiosis were estimated in Fl generation. The results were as follows, based on the graphical analysis, the characters, plant height, stem diameter, fruit weight, leaf length, leaf width, and fruit number per plant(yield) were assumed to inherit dominance, and fruit length and fruit diameter were found to inherit incomplete dominance. The degree of positive heterosis of plant height, stem diameter, fruit weight, fruit length, fruit diameter, leaf length, leaf width, and fruit diameter, leaf width, leaf length, fruit weight, and stem diameter showed negative heterobeltiosis.
