  • This paper proposes the new method based on the availability of three points measurement and convexity of photovoltaic (PV) curve characteristic at the maximum power point (MPP). In general, the MPP tracking (MPPT) function is the important part of all PV systems due to their power-voltage (P-V) characteristics related with weather conditions. Then, the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and low pass filter (LPF) are required to measure the voltage and current for MPPT by the digital controller, which is used to implement the PV power conditioning system (PCS). The measurement and quantization error due to rounding or truncation in ADC and the delay of LPF might degrade the reliability of MPPT. To overcome this limitation, the proposed method is proposed while improving the performances in both steady-state and dynamic responses based on the detailed investigation of its properties for availability and convexity. The performances of proposed method are evaluated with the several case studies by the PSCAD/EMTDC$^{(R)}$ simulation. Then, the experimental results are given to verify its feasibility in real-time.

  • The classic machine repair problem is extended to the case where a number of different machines are arranged in the sequence of operation. The steady-state availability of the system with a series of operating machines is maximized under some constraints such as total cost, available space. In order to find the optimal numbers of spare units and repair channels for each operating machine, the problem is formulated as non-linear integer programming(NLIP) problem and an efficient algorithm, which is a natural extension of the new Lawler-Bell algorithm of Sasaki et al., is used to solve the NLIP problem. A numerical example is given to illustrate the algorithm.

  • In this paper we apply routing algorithms in circuit switched networks to B-ISDN networks and investigate the performance. B-ISDN supports a wide range of services with hetrogeneous bandwidth requirements. We assume that the network supports D classes of traffic. It is modeled as a finite D dimensional Markov chain. A call is blocked on arrival if the required bandwidth is not available on the route. The shortest path routing, alternate routing and trunk reservation are considered for performance comparison. We also consider trunk reservation with restricted access control where the network reserves certain amount of bandwidths for one class of traffic that assumes a higher transmission priority. Through the method of successive iterations, we obtain the steady state equilibrium probabilities and call blocking probabilities for dynamic routing. The results can be used to design a B-ISDN network that improves network connection availability and efficiency while simultaneously reducing the network costs.

  • The safety loads in a nuclear power plant perform a critical function to plant safety. The design of the electrical auxiliary system should ensure the availability and adequacy of the power supply, and therefore, the frequency and voltage relaying schemes should be installed on the system to monitor and protect against the degraded system condition. If unforeseen contingencies degrade the switchyard frequency and voltage to below the minimum values, the safety related bus should properly be transferred to alternate power source. This paper presents guidelines associated with the protection of nuclear power plants during frequency/voltage decay and the steady-state and dynamic analysis of auxiliary power system that should be performed to support the degraded voltage relay(second level undervoltage relay) setting.

  • This paper investigates a mathematical model of a system composed of two non-identical unit parallel system with common-cause failure, critical human error, non-critical human error, preventive maintenance and two type of repair, i.e. cheaper and costlier. This system goes for preventive maintenance at random epochs. We assume that the failure, repair and maintenance times are independent random variables. The failure rates, repair rates and preventive maintenance rate are constant for each unit. The system is analyzed by using the graphical evaluation and review technique (GERT) to obtain various related measures and we study the effect of the preventive maintenance preventive maintenance on the system performance. Certain important results have been derived as special cases. The plots for the mean time to system failure and the steady-state availability A(${\infty}$) of the system are drawn for different parametric values.

  • This paper describes the identification of torsional modes and power oscillation modes including the inter-area modes and local modes of KEPCO using the proposed DFT analysis algorithm which is applied to the digitally recorded RMS values of power system variables such as steady-state measured active power, load angle and so on. As a result, the inter-area mode of 0.65Hz and the local modes of the three different generators were identified. In addition the torsional modes of two steam-turbo generators were analyzed by applying the DFT algorithm. Thus, this paper clearly shows the availability of the proposed DFT algorithm that can analyze the digitally recorded effective values measured from the equipment such as PMU of DSM.

  • To invigorate the tapped-inductor boost (TIB) topology in emerging high step-up applications for off-grid products, a lossless snubber consisting of two capacitors and three diodes is proposed. Since the switch voltage stress is minimized in the proposed circuit, it is allowed to use a device with a lower cost, higher efficiency, and higher availability. Moreover, since the leakage inductance is fully utilized, no effort to minimize it is required. This allows for a highly productive and cost-effective design of the tapped-inductor. The proposed circuit also shows a high step-up ratio and provides relaxation of the switching loss and diode reverse-recovery. In this paper, the operation is analyzed in detail, the steady-state equation is derived, and the design considerations are discussed. Some experimental results are provided to confirm the validity of the proposed circuit.

  • This paper presents the simulation model to decide the mean size of cannibalization aircraft (MSCA) under steady state when an airbase makes use of cannibalization to support the spare parts of an airfleet. In this model, the essential factors such as mission requirements, mission time, failure time, repair time, repair capability, inventory policy, cannivalization rule are considered. The model is constructed with above factors and actual airbase operating rules for a basis. Because of the tangled interdependencies among the each factors, it is inevitable to construct the model by the simulation technique. The mission and support system of the airbase is considered as a closed queueing network with a finite number of unit The troubled aircrafts are repaired in accordance with the priorities that are determined by their repair times. The illustrative example of the model, using the actual data of xx-airbase, is presented. The model would be a useful tool not only to determine the MSCA and the size of scheduled maintenance aircraft but to evaluate the NORS (not operationally ready supply) rate and the availability of an airfleet.

  • An cluster system used consist of large number of running servers, one has the problem that does the low availability occured by the high chance of the server failures and it is difficult to provide occuring software aging. In this paper, running cluster web servers consists of n primary servers and k backup servers, based on the operational parameters such as number of running primary servers, number of backup severs, rejuvenation period, rejuvenation time, failure rate of sewers, repair rate of servers, unstable rate of servers. We calculate to evaluate the rejuvenation policy such steady-state probabilities, downtime, availability, and downtime cost. We validate the solutions of mathematical model by experiments based on various operation parameters and find that the software rejuvenation method can be adopted as prventive fault tolerant technique for stability of system. The failure rate and unstable rate of the servers are essential factors for decision making of the rejuvenation policies.
