  • Optimum design of bumper beam is investigated using nonlinear CAE structural analysis techniques. In order to minimize its weight, while enhancing structural performances, bumper beam structural analyses were carried out to produce optimum section. Model is composed of bumper beam and stay. First, considering FMVSS safety standard, static strength and energy absorbing capability were estimated for several competitive bumpers through pendulum static analysis, and most promising section was chosen. Next, to ensure dynamic crashworthinesss performance for center pole impact was evaluated for the bumper beam with chosen section through pendulum static analysis, referring to DHS bumper dynamic impact standard. Finally, 2.5 mph bumper beam was designed and its structural performance was estimated. Through this investigation, an optimized bumper beam section with less weight of 20% while maintaining almost equal carshworthiness, compared with a conventional bumper beam section which proved its impact crashworthiness by experiments, was developed.

  • This paper studies the state estimation problem for static neural networks with time-varying delay. Unlike other studies, the controller scheme, which involves time-varying sampling and uncertainties, is first employed to design the state estimator for delayed static neural networks. Based on Lyapunov functional approach and linear matrix inequality technique, the non-fragile sampled-data estimator is designed such that the resulting estimation error system is globally asymptotically stable with $H_{\infty}$ performance. Finally, the effectiveness of the developed results is demonstrated by a numerical example.

  • A design method of second generation wavelet (SGW)-based multivariable finite elements is proposed for static and vibration beam analysis. An important property of SGWs is that they can be custom designed by selecting appropriate lifting coefficients depending on the application. The SGW-based multivariable finite element equations of static and vibration analysis of beam problems with two and three kinds of variables are derived based on the generalized variational principles. Compared to classical finite element method (FEM), the second generation wavelet-based multivariable finite element method (SGW-MFEM) combines the advantages of high approximation performance of the SGW method and independent solution of field functions of the MFEM. A multiscale algorithm for SGW-MFEM is presented to solve structural engineering problems. Numerical examples demonstrate the proposed method is a flexible and accurate method in static and vibration beam analysis.

  • Recently, the bogie frame weight of Light Rail Transit system has been reduced in order to save energy and materials. However, this light weighted vehicle structure is very important to verify the fatigue strength at the development stage. Bogie system consists of bogie frame, suspensions, wheel-sets, braking system and transmission system. Among these components, the bogie frame is most significant component subjected to the whole vehicle and passenger loads. In this study, the bogie frame for the New LRT power car is evaluated to the static and fatigue strength. And the evaluation method is used the LRT Performance Test Standards Specification throughout the FEM analysis and static load test. The static and fatigue test results for the LRT bogie frame of power car has been appeared very safety and stable for the design load conditions.

  • Understanding the crushing behaviour of aluminum honeycombs under dynamic loading is useful for crash simulations of vehicles and for design of impacting energy absorbers. In the study of honeycomb crushing under quasi-static, dynamic loading, the most important parameter is crush strength. Crush strength is indicated to energy absorption characteristic of aluminum honeycomb. In this study, Using Finite Element Analysis carried out crush strength of hexagonal aluminum honeycomb then the results was compared with Quasi-static test. Consequently, Crush strength is different in quasi-static loading and dynamic loading about 16%.

  • This research has been devoted to examine nonlinear static bending analysis of smart beams with nano dimension exposed to thermal environment. The beam elastic properties are corresponding to piezo-magnetic material of different compositions. The large deflection analysis of the beam has been performed assuming that the beam is exposed to transverse uniform pressure. Based on the rule of Hamilton, the governing equations have been derived for a nonlocal thin beam and solved using differential quadrature method. Temperature variation effect on nonlinear deflection of the smart beams has been studied. Also, the beam deflection is shown to be affected by electric voltage, magnetic intensity and material composition.

  • In this paper, an asynchronous nonvolatile memory module using a self-diagnosis function was designed. For the system to work, a lot of data must be input/output, and memory that can be stored is required. The volatile memory is fast, but data is erased without power, and the nonvolatile memory is slow, but data can be stored semi-permanently without power. The non-volatile static random-access memory is designed to solve these memory problems. However, the non-volatile static random-access memory is weak external noise or electrical shock, data can be some error. To solve these data errors, self-diagnosis algorithms were applied to non-volatile static random-access memory using error correction code, cyclic redundancy check 32 and data check sum to increase the reliability and accuracy of data retention. In addition, the possibility of application to an asynchronous non-volatile storage system requiring reliability was suggested.

  • One of the moot important constants to be Installed In COLSS, a monitoring system in CE typed reactors, is ROPM which would limit the operating space. This static ROPM was calculated from digital transient analysis assuming that every design basis transient was initiated from the most severe initial condition combination (LCO). Once It could be assured that core condition would not be located at none other than LCO, this static ROPM could be replaced with dynamic ROPM calculated at that condition and the dynamic ROPM would be definitely less than the static ROPM. In order to do, It must be required to calculate the transient discrete sensitivity parameters and parameters change distribution. The purpose of this report is just to propose the enlargement method for thermal margin.

  • The dynamic behavior of a single pile was investigated by using analytical and numerical studies. The focus of this study was to develop the dynamic p-y curve of a pile for pseudo-static analysis considering the shear wave velocity of the soil by using three-dimensional numerical analyses. Numerical analyses were conducted for a single pile in dry sand under changing conditions such as the shear wave velocity of the soil and the acceleration amplitudes. The proposed dynamic p-y curve is a shape of hyperbolic function that was developed to take into account the influence of the shear wave velocity of soil. The applicability of pseudo-static analysis using the proposed dynamic p-y curve shows good agreement with the general trends observed by dynamic analysis. Therefore, the proposed dynamic p-y curve represents practical improvements for the seismic design of piles.

  • Liquefied Natural Gas is liquefied at the condition of atmosphere pressure and cryogenic temperature. LNG is exposed very long time under the cryogenic temperature and high pressure, and it is very important to retain the structural safety in this envelopment. Until now, the material which are composing the storage tank of LNG ship has experimented at room temperature, so it is not enough to apply for the design at the cryogenic temperature. The purposes of this study are investigated mechanical properties for aluminum alloy. To evaluate tensile and fatigue test for aluminum alloy, it was considering static and fatigue conditions at room and cryogenic temperature. S-N curves were designed at both temperature respectively. Also, P-S-N curve was performed statistical method by JSME-S002.
