  • In this paper, we proposed the system that supports underachievers realm decision of Korean language curriculum in the middle school. Learning disability and stagnation should be minimized by using and applying the proposed system. The input layer of the system contains 36 variables, which can be specific items in the Koran language curriculum. The variables are encoded with the specific coding schemes. The number of nodes in the hidden layer was determined through a series of learning stage with best result. We assigned 4 neurons, which correspond to one realm of the curriculum to output layer respectively. We used the multilayer perceptron and the error backpropagation algorithm to develope the system. A total of 2,008 data for training and 380 for testing were used for evaluating the performance.

  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and particle image velocimetry (PIV) are commonly used techniques to evaluate the flow characteristics in the development stage of blood pumps. CFD technique allows rapid change to pump parameters to optimize the pump performance without having to construct a costly prototype model. These techniques are used in the construction of a bi-ventricular assist device (BVAD) which combines the functions of LVAD and RVAD in a compact unit. The BVAD construction consists of two separate chambers with similar impellers, volutes, inlet and output sections. To achieve the required flow characteristics of an average flow rate of 5 l/min and different pressure heads (left - 100mmHg and right - 20mmHg), the impellers were set at different rotating speeds. From the CFD results, a six-blade impeller design was adopted for the development of the BVAD. It was also observed that the fluid can flow smoothly through the pump with minimum shear stress and area of stagnation which are related to haemolysis and thrombosis. Based on the compatible Reynolds number the flow through the model was calculated for the left and the right pumps. As it was not possible to have both the left and right chambers in the experimental model, the left and right pumps were tested separately.

  • Investigation of leading edge impingement cooling for first stage rotor blades in an aero-engine turbine, its effect on rotor temperature and trailing edge wake loss have been undertaken in this study. The rotor is modeled with the nozzle for attaining a more accurate simulation. The rotor blade is hollowed in order for the coolant to move inside. Also, plenum with the 15 jet nozzles are placed in it. The plenum is fed by compressed fresh air at the rotor hub. Engine operational and real condition is exerted as boundary condition. Rotor is inspected in two states: in existence of cooling technique and non-cooling state. Three-dimensional compressible and steady solutions of RANS equations with SST K-ω turbulent model has been performed for this numerical simulation. The results show that leading edge is one of the most critical regions because of stagnation formation in those areas. Another high temperature region is rotor blade tip for existence of tip leakage in this area and jet impingement cooling can effectively cover these regions. The rotation impact of the jet velocity from hub to tip caused a tendency in coolant streamlines to move toward the rotor blade tip. In addition, by discharging used coolant air from the trailing edge and ejecting it to the turbines main flow by means of the slot in trailing edge, which could reduce the trailing edge wake loss and a total decrease in the blade cooling loss penalty.

  • For the extensive investigation of local heat/mass transfer on the near-tip surface of turbine blade, experiments were conducted in a low speed stationary annular cascade. The turbine test section has a single stage composed of sixteen guide vanes and blades. The chord length and the height of the tested blade are 150 mm and about 125 mm, respectively. The blade has flat tip geometry and the mean tip clearance is about $2.5{\%}$ of the blade chord. Detailed mass transfer coefficient on the blade near-tip surface was obtained using a naphthalene sublimation technique. The inlet flow Reynolds number based on chord length and incoming flow velocity is changed from $1.0{\times}10^{5}\;to\;2.3{\times}10^{5}.$ Extremely complex heat transfer characteristics are observed on the blade surface due, to complicated flow patterns, such as flow acceleration, laminarization, transition, separation bubble and tip leakage flow. Especially, the suction side surface of the blade has higher heat/mass transfer coefficients and more complex distribution than the pressure side surface, which is related to the leakage flow. For all the tested Reynolds numbers, the heat/mass transfer characteristics on the turbine blade are the similar. The overall averaged $Sh_{c}$ values are proportional to $Re_{c}^{0.5}$ on the stagnation region and the laminar flow region such as the pressure side surface. However, since the flow is fully turbulent in the near-tip region, the heat/mass transfer coefficients are proportional to $Re_{c}^{0.8}.$

  • The following conclusions were obtained after bibliographic investigation on the therapy of lung cancer by western, oriental, and integrated oriental and western medicine. 1. Lung cancer is classified into small cell lung cancer(SCLC) or non small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) in the treatment by western medicine, and applied with the means of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy alone or combined, depending on the stage and the symptom. 2. Treatment by oriental medicine includes the means of strengthening body resistance to dispel pathogenic factors(扶正祛邪), combined approach of reinforcement and expulsion(攻補兼施), and reinforcing both qi and blood(氣血雙補), depending on the initial, middle, and terminal stage. And also treatment based on differentiation of symptom(辨證施治) is applied according to the type of symptom; deficiency of qi of both lung and spleen(肺脾氣虛), heat symptom of lung by deficiency of yin(肺熱陰虛), stagnation of damp-phlegm and blood(濕痰瘀阻), stagnation of qi and blood(氣血瘀滯), deficiency of both qi and yin(氣陰兩虛). Single or combined herb drug is used according to the symptom. 3. Treatment by integrated oriental and western medicine improved survival rate and quality of life. It promoted recovery and improved survival rate in the patients receiving surgery. Integrated radiotherapy and oriental medicine treatment reduced adverse effect by radiotherapy and improved therapeutic effect and survival rate. Integrated chemotherapy with oriental medicine treatment reduced side effect by chemotherapy and improved quality of life and survival rate. These results suggest that therapy of lung cancer should be applied with integrated oriental and western medicine from diagnosis to treatment for promoting therapeutic effect. And further study on this therapy should be ensued.

  • When tour site is being used by people for the destination of tour, it has a life, or it will lose its life as a tour site. Therefore this paper aims to, based on Butler's theory, has chosen 46 hot spring spots in Korea which are legally assigned and presently running, and tried to analyze the life cycles, the stage of dispositional characteristics, and visitors' favoritism, and to try to find activating method which is not decline. Out of 46 spots, 29 Places were found on the stage of development, which took high percentage, 4 were on the growing stage, 5 were on the mature stage, 5 were on the stagnation or decline stage and the rest 3 were on the stage of rejuvenation. Geographically, Korean hot springs were located on the plain or mountainous areas mostly, and less of them were on hills and coast lines. In water quality, most of places had simple water while the places with salt and sulfur contained water were marked low rate. The temperatures of hot spring water were variable between $25^{\circ}C{\sim}78^{\circ}C$, but the older hot springs were hotter than new ones. After observing the relationship between disposition characteristics and life cycles, the geographical locations and the matter of approach were found as majour influential factors to the life cycles of them. The type of mountainous areas were observed slow progress in life cycle, due to traffic problem, until the road expansion or pavement work were done. Meanwhile, the suburban ones adjacent to big cities were favored by hot spring tourists due to their easy approach and easy traffic. The new born hot springs with such conditions have shown the fast growth. As studied above, since the hot springs were supposed to be for recuperation and vacational, a hot spring with better recreational and accommodational facilities was more favored by tourists than the one with pretty interior decorations. It was because the tour purpose of people has been switched from single purpose to multi one. Thus, the suggestion for activating a declining hot spring and bringing people in them is to develop new and attractive tour resources, expanding the related area, maintaining good quality of water, developing a complex site for long-term tour, developed traffic routs, hot spring festivals, utilizing adjacent tour resources, preparing public water supply system, and assigning as special tour zone.

  • To clarify the annual reproductive cycle of the Korean perch, Coreoperca herzi, the seasonal changes in gonadosomatic index (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI), histological aspects of gonad and liver, and plasma levels of sex steroid hormones were investigated from June 1994 to April 1996. The annual variations of GSI and HSI were positively related to the plasma levels of sex steroid hormones. Estradiol-$17{\beta}$ (E2) and testosterone levels were raised during the April to May. Based on the related results, annual reproductive cycle of the fish could be divided into five successive stages; 1) Growing stage (from February to March: GSI was increased rapidly and oocytes with yolk vesicle was increased. Nucleus migrates toward the animal pole. Spermatids were activated from the epithelial tissue of lobuli). 2) Maturation and spawning stage (from April to June: Oocytes were accumulated yolk globules. Active spermatogenesis was observed). 3) Degeneration or stagnation phase (from July to August). 4) Recovery phase (from September to November) and 5) resting phase (from December to January). The main spawning period was in May.

  • Third-generation (3G) devicesare next-generation devices that allow the use of intelligent services and applications through the Internet of Things (IoT). As the market forexisting smart devices like smartphones and tablet PCs enters the stage of stagnation, the world is now focusing on 3G devices, parts, and services. This study is intended to measure the user's benefits from the various attributes of 3G devices by applying an economic valuation method. For this purpose, the conjoint analysis method was applied, which is one of the representative valuation methods. To apply conjoint analysis, the following attributes of 3G devicesare considered: mode of use, power efficiency, life care, and price. By applying the mixed logit model, the marginal willingness-to-pay(WTP) for each attribute was derived. The results are statistically significant. Respondents showed a high preference or complete flexibility in the mode of use attribute. And they were also found to have WTP for improvements in the life care attribute. The implications and quantitative results of this study are expected to be useful for policies and strategies in the 3G device market.

  • Unlike advancements on land, the maritime industry has been slow to embrace new technologies, primarily due to user apprehension toward unproven innovations in the development process. The existing paradigm of technology development, marked by expert-oriented and laboratory-centric test environments, often leads to a stagnation of progress at the research stage, as the applicability of the technology remains uncertain. This study departed from the conventional research system and introduced a novel methodology known as a "living lab." This approach aimed to ensure applicability by actively involving field-oriented users throughout the entire lifecycle of technology development, encompassing planning, development, verification, and evaluation. The presentation of a plan for the construction and operation of such a living lab in this study is expected to contribute to establishing an efficient experimentation system for ships that can reflect user opinions in the future and to secure technology applicability in the maritime field.

  • Since a distribution market was opened in 1993 after the conclusion of the Uruguay Round (UR), various new businesses emerged in the Korean retail industry, such as convenience shops, supermarkets, specialty stores, non-store marketing methods, and cyber shopping malls, in addition to traditional markets and department stores. Competition among these retail businesses has intensified. According to the National Statistical Office (NSO), the growth rate of the total retail industry has shown a 32% increase in the past 5 years. While department stores, supermarkets, specialty stores, and other non-store retailing venues have shown signs of stagnation at a growth rate of 20-30%, which is similar to the growth rate of the entire retail industry, convenience shops and non-store marketing have shown 60-70% growth over the same period. By comparison, the growth rate of cyber shopping malls has nearly tripled. When applying development aspects of retail businesses through the competition to the retail life cycle, mom-and-pop stores and traditional markets have already entered the decline phase as specialty stores reach their maturity phase and demonstrate their limit of growth. Department stores are now in the latter part of the growth phase, which is still considered to have some growth potential. Big super markets are still in the early part of their growth stage although they were introduced 20 years ago. Meanwhile, retail businesses such as convenience stores, supermarkets, mail order houses, and warehouse stores are entering the middle growth phase and are expected to continue with their quantitative growth. At a time when most retail businesses in Korea are in a state of development or in the full growth stage, what kind of new innovative retailing will appear and develop? Moreover, what growth engine will drive it? This study analyzes the appearance of innovative retailing and its development process by establishing a discussable consumer's choice model through the interlocking mutual behavior of differentiated competitiveness and consumers' choice based on an awareness of this issue. The analysis of the results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, if a new vacuum zone emerges at the retail market level, innovative retailing such as low price/low service or high price/high service will emerge simultaneously. Second, if the number of new businesses in the vacuum zone increases, this will create competitiveness among the businesses, and each retailer will develop raising of level. Third, if a new business that raises the level develops, competition between the new and the existing retailer will occur, and an assimilation process between the existing retailing and the new retailing will be unfolded. Fourth, each retailing will promote distribution innovations in order to break the frontier of the existing distribution technology, and other retailing will follow the innovator. On the basis of an analysis of the abovementioned results, this study presents the following three suggestions. First, responding to the consumer's decision-making process on the attributes of retail shops that promote differentiation in strategies, this study established a consumer's choice model that can be discussed in relation to changes in market share. Second, this study provided an analysis of the emerging and developmental processes of innovative retail businesses using a more precise logical structure on the basis of the consumer's choice model described in this study. Third, the development process of retail businesses discussed in this study presented retailing solutions regarding management aspects on how to compose a strong retail mix that can help retail businesses gain competitive advantages in the market.
