  • In this study, nanoporous $Cu_3(BTC)_2$ membranes were synthesized on macroporous alumina tube supports by solvothermal method. It is very difficult to prepare uniform and crack-free $Cu_3(BTC)_2$ layer on macroporous alumina support by in situ solvothermal method. In this study, continuous and crack-free $Cu_3(BTC)_2$ tubular membranes could be obtained by in situ solvothermal process after surface modification of alumina support. The surface modification was conducted by spraying Cu precursor solution on the alumina support heated at $200^{\circ}C$. The prepared $Cu_3(BTC)_2$ tubular membranes were characterized by XRD, FE-SEM and gas permeation experiments. $H_2$ permeance through $5{\mu}m$ thick $Cu_3(BTC)_2$ tubular membrane was calculated to be $7.8{\times}10^{-7}mol/s{\cdot}m^2{\cdot}Pa$ by single gas permeation test, with the ideal selectivities of $H_2/N_2=11.94$, and $H_2/CO_2=12.82$.

  • Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have attracted much attention as a promising material for transparent conducting films (TCFs), due to their superior electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength, and complete flexibility as well as their one-dimensional morphological features of extremely high length-to-diameter ratios. This study investigated three kinds of SWCNTs with different purities: as-produced SWCNTs (AP-SWCNTs), thermally purified SWCNTs (TH-SWCNTs), thermally and acid purified SWCNTs (TA-SWCNTs). The purity of each SWCNT sample was assessed by considering absorption peaks in the semiconducting ($S_{22}$) and metallic ($M_{11}$) tubes with UV-Vis NIR spectroscopy and a metal content with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The purity increased as proceeding the purification stages from the AP-SWCNTs through the thermal purification to the acid purification. The samples containing different contents of SWCNTs were dispersed in water using sodium dodecyl benzensulfate (SDBS). Aqueous suspensions of different purities of SWCNTs were prepared to have similar absorbances in UV-Vis absorption measurements so that one can make the TCFs possess similar optical transmittances irrespective of the SWCNT purity. Transparent conductive SWCNT networks were formed by spraying an SWCNT suspension onto a poly(ethyleneterephthalate) (PET) substrate. As expected, the TCFs fabricated with AP-SWCNTs showed very high sheet resistances. Interestingly, the TH-SWCNTs gave lower sheet resistances to the TFCs than the TA-SWCNTs although the latter was of higher purity in the SWCNT content than the former. The TA-SWCNTs would be shortened in length and be more bundled by the acid purification, relative to the TH-SWCNTs. For both purified (TH, TA) samples, the subsequent nitric acid ($HNO_3$) treatment greatly lowered the sheet resistances of the TCFs, but almost eliminated the difference of sheet resistances between them. This seems to be because the electrical conductivity increased not only due to further removal of surfactants but also due to p-type doping upon the acid treatment. The doping effect was likely to overwhelm the effect of surfactant removal. Although the nitric acid treatment resulted in the similar. electrical properties to the two samples, the TCFs of TH-SWCNTs showed much lower sheet resistances than those of the TA-SWCNTs prior to the acid treatment.

  • The main purpose of this study is to develop a sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method, which is a new technique for strengthening the existing concrete structures by mixing one of the carbon or glass chopped fibers and one of the epoxy or vinyl ester resins with high-speed compressed air in open air and randomly spraying the mixture onto the concrete surface. At present, the sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method using the epoxy resin has not been fully discussed. In order to investigate the material property of the sprayed FRP, this study carried out tensile tests of the material specimens, which were changed with the combinations of various variables including the length of chopped fiber and the mixture ratio of chopped fiber and resin. These variables were set to have the equal material strength, compared with that of one layer of the FRP sheet. As a result, the optimal length of glass and carbon chopped fibers was fumed out to be 38 mm, and the optimal mixture ratio between chopped fiber and resin was also turned out to be 1 : 2 from each variable. And also, the thickness of the sprayed FRP to have the equal strength to one layer of the FRP sheet was finally calculated. In is study, a series of experiments were carried out to evaluate the strengthening effects of flexural beams, shear beams and damaged beams strengthened with the sprayed FRP method, respectively. The results revealed that the strengthening effects of the flexural and shear specimens were reasonably similar to those of the FRP sheet, and the developed Sprayed FRP technique is able to be used as a strengthening scheme of existing RC building.

  • Four to $17\%$ of the seeds of ginseng (Panax ginseng Meyer) collected from seemingly healthy plants carried Colletotrichum panacicola Nakata et Takimoto whereas the seeds from the plants with anthracnose sympotoms carried $42\%$ of the same fungus. Prevalent organisms isolated other than C. panacicola from seeds of both kinds of plants were Fusarium, Alternaria, Phoma, Trichoderma and others, ana in that order on acidified potato sucrose agar. C. panacicola also was isolated from 18 months old herbarium specimens. The fungus in the infected tissues also survived during the Korean winter months either on the soil surface or in the soil at 10 and 30 em in depth. When conidial suspensions of C. panacicola were inoculated on detached ginseng leaves, anthracnose symptoms occurred from 25 to $35^{\circ}C$. No symptoms occurred at temperatures below $17^{\circ}C$. Direct sunlight increased significantly the number of anthracnose lesions over those obtained in leaves inoculated in darkness or in 400 lux of fluorescent light. The lesions decreased as age of the leaves increased or as the number of conidia applied decreased. Optimum temperature for mycelial growth and conidial formation of C. panacicola was $25^{\circ}C$. Optimum pH for the mycelial growth was at $pH\;2.8\~4.6$ while the most conidial formation occurred at $pH\;5.2\~5.8.$. When fungicides were applied in the field to ginseng plants with a conidial suspension of C. panacicola, the most effective control of the anthracnose disease was by spraying with difolatan, and followed by maneb, zineb, captan and phaltan; Bordeaux mixture and ferbam were significantly less effective but significantly better than the inoculated control plants.

  • In order to provide fundamental data on utilization of dehumidifier in greenhouses, a condensing type dehumidifier using ground water as a coolant was developed and tested dehumidification performance. The developed dehumidifier was applied to greenhouse with fog cooling system and effect of dehumidification on improvement of evaporative cooling efficiency was analyzed. Results of the dehumidifier performance test showed that dehumidification using ground water as a coolant was sufficiently possible in fog cooling greenhouse. When the set point temperature of greenhouse cooling was $32^{\circ}C$ and as temperatures of ground water rose from $15^{\circ}C\;to\;18^{\circ}C,\;21^{\circ}C\;and\;24^{\circ}C$, dehumidification rates decreased by $17.7\%,\;35.4\%\;and\;52.8\%$, respectively. As flow rates of ground water reduced to $75\%\;and\;50\%$, dehumidification rates decreased by $12.1\%\;and\;30.5\%$, respectively. Cooling efficiency of greenhouse equipped with fog system was distinctly improved by artificial dehumidification. When the ventilation rate was 0.7 air exchanges per minute, dehumidification rates of the fog cooling greenhouse caused by natural ventilation were 53.9%-74.4% and they rose up to 75.4%-95.9% by operating the dehumidifier. In case of using the ground water of $18^{\circ}C$ and flow rate of design condition, it was analyzed that whole fog spraying water can be dehumidified even if the ventilation rate is 0.36 exchanges per minute. As a utilization of dehumidifier, it is possible to improve cooling efficiency of fog system in naturally ventilated greenhouses.

  • A multipurpose operating system was developed to adjust both spray times and ventilation method without a configuration of the moving path and the type of the greenhouse. The multipurpose working system proved to be a reliable system for testing the growth quality of the fruit vegetables in the greenhouse. The results are as follows. The first leaf, diameter of a stem, leaf area, and average stem diameter in the Cucumber seedling growth were repressed by high-speed ventilation, but was not repressed by spray times. The first leaf in the Tomato seedling growth was repressed as ventilation velocity was high, but the average stem diameter was not repressed. While the Tomato was given water three times a day, the diameter of a stem and the leaf area were increased as ventilation speed became higher. However, those were different other factors. The Tomato leaf area was larger when given water twice a day than that in hand spray, but showed no difference with ventilation speed. The first leaf, the diameter of a stem and the leaf area of a Red pepper were lower in automatic spraying with ventilation than those in hand spray.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of enzyme complex on odor emission from swine slurry and the process of making swine liquid manure. Ammonia and hydrogen sulfide concentrations were significantly decreased by using the enzyme complex of liter per ton level of liquid swine slurry in the manure storage tank according to the time. Characteristics of liquid swine slurry were affected by the enzyme complex, total nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen contents were reduced compare with control. Ammonia and hydrogen sulfide concentrations in the finishing pig building and offensive odor compound on the boundary line of swine farm were significantly decreased by spraying in swine finishing building. In conclusion, the results obtained from this study suggest that using the enzyme complex of liter per ton level of liquid swine slurry for making liquid swine manure may improve the quality of swine liquid fertilizer and reduce odor emission. Also farm scale enzyme complex treatment may improve air quality in finishing pig building and deduce offensive odor compound of swine farm.

  • The objectives of this study were (1) to analyze the degree of rice farmers' knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM), (2) to determine the related variables for decisions on pest control, and (3) to indicate desirable direction for IPM farmers' field training. The study was carried out through a questionnaire method and sane interviewing survey of 300 rice farmers by the IPM trainers who participated in IPM training in 1994 or 1995. The data were collected from 268 respondents to the questionnaire consisted of KAP and related variables. The major findings of the study were as follows: 1. The KAP score of the farmers concerning IPM were 71 for knowledge, 76.2 for attitude and 74 for practice on average. 2. The KAP score was higher for farmers cultivating larger land size and for those with more participation in IPM training. Also the KAP was higher for the members of the Rural Leaders Association and Future Farmers Association than any other groups. 3. The IPM farmers had strong positive attitudes towards the resistant rice varieties. However, the practical pest control rate of the IPM farmers was low for conservation of natural enemies, timely control following occurrence and plant compensation what few pest were presence in the paddy field. 4. The KAP Score on the economic threshold level and safe pesticide use was relatively low for elder farmers and for those with lower educational background. Most farmers preferred calendar spraying methods for preventive pest control to any other method of pest control. Knowledge was relatively low on pesticide and environmental contamination. 5. Decision making on pest control depends on the extension officer and rural leader's opinion. The survey method for pest occurrence by directly counting pest in the field was only 22.9% among the farmers of this study. 6. Most farmers used pesticide for preventive pest occurrence even when pest didn't occur in their field. The average number of pesticide applications per cropping season in rice field was 3.7 times, and the number of mixed pesticides per application was 4.3 kinds of pesticides. Also 6 recommendations were made in this study for improvement of IPM farmer's training.

  • This study investigated population fluctuations in two mite species in apple orchards over 20-year period. The occurrence of two major mite pests infesting apple trees, two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae and European red mite Panonychus ulmi (Acari: Tetranychidae), was investigated from 1992 to 2011 in major apple-producing districts, including four to eight cities, in the southern part of the Republic of Korea. The 20-year trend revealed that more orchards were infested by T. urticae from 1992 to 1999, but thereafter P. ulmi became dominant. The observed mean density of P. ulmi was consistent, whereas that of T. urticae fluctuated during this period. The analysis of occurrence in four time periods reveals that the density of T. urticae decreased after 2002. The monthly sampling, revealed that the density of P. ulmi was higher in April, whereas the density of T. urticae was higher from May to August. This change may be due to a change in the frequency of pesticide spraying, ground vegetation management, a decrease in nitrogen fertilization, and the overall orchard management practices. However, this projection should be examined in more detail. On the basis of the findings of this study, it can be concluded that cultural practices, including fertilization, and environmental changes, such as pesticide spray frequency and integrated pest management practices, affect species dominance and population densities of the two mite species in apple orchards.
