  • A finite-difference method based on conservative supra characteristic method type upwind flux difference splitting has been developed to study the nonequilibrium chemically reacting inviscid flow. For nonequilibrium air, NS-1 species equations were strongly coupled with flowfield equations through convection and species production terms. Inviscid nonequilibrium chemically reacting air mixture flows over Blunt-body were solved to demonstrate the capability of the current method. At low altitude flight conditions the nonequilibrium air models predicted almost the same temperature, density and pressure behind the shock as equilibrium flow: however, at high altitudes they showed substantial differences due to nonequilibrium chemistry effect. The new nonequilibrium chemically reacting upwind flux difference splitting mettled can be extended to viscous flow and multi-dimensional flow conditions.

Magnetization of a Modified Magnetic Quantum Dot

  • The energy dispersion and magnetization of a modified magnetic dot are investigated numerically. The effects of additional electrostatic potential, magnetic field non-uniformity, and Zeeman spin splitting are studied. The modified magnetic quantum dot is a magnetically formed quantum structure that has different magnetic fields inside and outside of the dot. The additional electrostatic potential prohibits the ground-state angular momentum transition in the energy dispersion as a function of the magnetic field inside the dot, and provides oscillation of the magnetization as a function of the chemical potential energy. The magnetic field non-uniformity broadens the shape of the magnetization. The Zeeman spin splitting produces additional peaks on the magnetization.

  • Contaminant transport in groundwater induces major threat and harmful effect on the environment; hence, the fate of the contaminant migration in groundwater is seeking a lot of attention. In this paper a two dimensional numerical flow and transport model through saturated layered soil is developed. Groundwater flow and solute transport has been simulated numerically using proposed model. The model implements the finite volume time splitting method to discretize the main equations. The performance, accuracy and efficiency of the out coming numerical models have been successfully examined by two test cases. The verification test cases consist of two-dimensional, groundwater flow and solute transport. The final purpose of this paper is to discuss and compare the shape of contaminant plume in homogeneous and heterogeneous media with different soil properties and control of solute transport using a zone for minimizing the potential of groundwater contamination; furthermore, this model leads to select the effective and optimum remedial strategies for cleaning the contaminated aquifers.

A Numerical Study on the Bubble Noise and the Tip Vortex Cavitation Inception

  • This paper presents a numerical study on tip vortex cavitation inception predictions based on non-spherical bubble dynamics including splitting and jet noise emission. A brief summary of the numerical method and its validation against a laboratory experiment are presented. The behavior of bubble nuclei is studied in a tip vortex flow field at two Reynolds numbers, provided by a viscous flow solver. The bubble behavior is simulated by an axisymmetric potential flow solver with the effect of surrounding viscous flow taken into account using one way coupling. The effects of bubble nucleus size and Reynolds number are studied. An effort to model the bubble splitting at lower cavitation numbers is also described.

  • This experimental study is to evaluate the effects of recycled coarse aggregate replacement level on the mechanical properties of concrete produced at Batcher plant. The main test parameter was replacement level of recycled coarse aggregate with the ratio of 0, 30, 60 and 100% to the natural coarse aggregate. From the test results, it was found that compressive strength, elastic modulus and splitting strength are decreased with the increased proportion of replacement level. Therefore, some design coefficients or recommendations for elastic modulus and splitting strength of concrete need to be reconsidered with minor reduction factor of '0.85'.

  • The propagation of water waves over irregular bottom bathymetry and around islands involves many process-shoaling, refraction, energy dissipation and diffraction. Numerical model in this study is developed with the mild slope equation to investigate wave transformation in water of varying depth and combined waves and a current. The method used is splitting method and minimax approximation. The numerical method used in this study is Crank-Nicolson scheme in the FDM. This model is applied to Vincent shoal and compared with laboratory experimental data. The results agreed well with laboratory data. Current effect is considered in this study. This model can be used for the estimation of rip current in the slowly varying topography.

  • We present an explicit numerical algorithm for surface reconstruction from unorganized points using the Gaussian filter. We construct a surface from unorganized points and solve the modified heat equation coupled with a fidelity term which keeps the given points. We apply the operator splitting method. First, instead of solving the diffusion term, we use the Gaussian filter which has the effect of diffusion. Next, we solve the fidelity term by using the fully implicit scheme. To investigate the proposed algorithm, we perform computational experiments and observe good results.

  • The possibility of using recycled coarse glass aggregates as a substitute for natural crushed stone are relatively limited. In order to promote it for engineering application, this paper reports the effect of coarse glass aggregate on mechanical behavior of concrete. The coarse aggregates are substituted for coarse glass aggregate (CGA) as 0%,20%,40%,60%,80% and 100%.The results show that increasing the coarse glass aggregate content cause decrease in compressive strength, the elastic modulus, the splitting tensile strength, the flexural strength. An equation is presented to generate the relationship between cube compressive strength and prism compressive strength, the relationship between cube compressive strength and elastic modulus, the relationship between cube compressive strength and splitting tensile strength, the relationship between cube compressive strength and flexural strength of coarse glass concrete.

  • This study attempted to derive an appropriate application range by reviewing the integration performance of joints according to the application range of SRA concrete. As a result, it was confirmed that the integration performance was improved even if SRA concrete was placed only by 75mm, which is 0.5 times the thickness of the member.

비정질 강섬유로 보강된 철근콘크리트 인장부재의 인장강화효과 (Tension Stiffening Effect of RC Tension Members Reinforced with Amorphous Steel Fibers)

  • 이 논문은 비정질 강섬유 및 일반 강섬유로 보강된 철근콘크리트 인장 부재의 인장강화효과에 대해서 직접인장 실험을 통하여 비교 분석한 것이다. 이를 위하여 피복두께를 변수로 하는 직사각형 단면의 비정질 강섬유 및 일반 강섬유로 보강된 직접인장실험체를 각 6개씩 제작하여 실험을 실시하였다. 실험결과에 따르면 강섬유로 보강된 철근콘크리트 인장부재는 피복두께가 두꺼워질수록 인장강화효과가 증가하였으며, 비정질 강섬유가 일반 강섬유보다 인장강화효과가 더 우수하였다. 강섬유 보강에 따른 쪼갬균열의 발생 및 진행이 크게 감소하였으며, 비정질 강섬유로 보강된 경우는 철근 직경의 2배 이상 피복두께가 확보되면 쪼갬균열이 억제되고 그에 따라서 인장강화효과가 크게 증가하였다. 특히 일반 강섬유와 비교하여 비정질 강섬유로 보강된 철근콘크리트 부재의 경우는 현행 설계기준의 인장강화효과 규정과는 다르게 작용하중에 따라서 인장강화효과가 증가하였는데, 이 결과는 인장강화효과의 크기를 결정하는 인장강성 계수의 분석을 통하여 확인하였다.
