Recently, speed sensorless vector control for synchronous reluctance motors (SYRMs) has deserved attention because of its advantages. Although rotor angle calculation using flux estimation is a straightforward approach, the DC offset can cause an increasing pure integrator error in this estimator. In addition, this method is affected by parameter fluctuation. In this paper, to control the motor at the low speed region, a modified programmable cascaded low pass filter (MPCPLF) with sensorless online parameter identification based on a block pulse function is proposed. The use of the MPCLPF is suggested because in programmable, cascade low pass filters (PCLPF), which previously have been applied to induction motors, the drift increases vastly wl)en motor speed decreases. Parameter identification is also used because it does not depend on estimation accuracy and can solve parameter fluctuation effects. Thus, sensorless speed control in the low speed region is possible. The experimental system includes a PC-based control with real time Linux and an ALTERA Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD), to acquire data from sensors and to send commands to the system. The experimental results show the proposed method performs well, speed and angle estimation are correct. Also, parameter identification and sensorless vector control are achieved at low speed, as well as, as at high speed.

This paper proposes a method to estimate the flow speed of pedestrians in surveillance videos. In the proposed method, the average moving speed of pedestrians is measured by estimating the size of real-world motion from the observed motion vectors. For this purpose, pixel-to-meter conversion factors are calculated from camera geometry. Also, the height information, which is missing because of camera projection, is predicted statistically from simulation experiments. Compared to the previous works for flow speed estimation, our method can be applied to various camera views because it separates scene parameters explicitly. Experiments are performed on both simulation image sequences and real video. In the experiments on simulation videos, the proposed method estimated the flow speed with average error of about 0.1m/s. The proposed method also showed a promising result for the real video.
The Wavefront Curvature Ranging (WCR) is an estimation method for a source range from the wavefront curvature of acoustic waves. The conventional method uses trigonometry to estimate the source range by assuming the sound speed as a constant. Because of this assumption, range error occurs in the ocean environment where the bottom reflection is clearly separated. In order to reduce the range error, Matched Wavefront Curvature Ranging (MWCR) was proposed applying the sound speed structure in the ocean environment and Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE). The range error was reduced in the results of the simulation on the proposed method. In the future, this method will be applicable to the sonar system if the reliability of ranging is confirmed by measured signal.

Due to the acceleration of an aging society, the need for lower limb exoskeletons to assist gait is increasing. And for use in daily life, it is essential to have technology that can accurately estimate gait phase even in the walking environment and walking speed of the wearer that changes frequently. In this paper, we implement an LSTM-based gait phase estimation learning model by collecting gait data according to changes in gait speed in outdoor level ground and stair environments. In addition, the results of the gait phase estimation error for each walking environment were compared after learning for both max hip extension (MHE) and max hip flexion (MHF), which are ground truth criteria in gait phase divided in previous studies. As a result, the average error rate of all walking environments using MHF reference data and MHE reference data was 2.97% and 4.36%, respectively, and the result of using MHF reference data was 1.39% lower than the result of using MHE reference data.

The crop damage caused by strong wind was predicted using the wind speed data available from Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA). Wind speed data measured at 19 automatic weather stations in 2012 were compared with wind data available from the KMA's digital forecast. Linear regression equations were derived using the maximum value of wind speed measurements for the three-hour period prior to a given hour and the digital forecasts at the three-hour interval. Estimates of daily maximum wind speed were obtained from the regression equation finding the greatest value among the maximum wind speed at the three-hour interval. The estimation error for the daily maximum wind speed was expressed using normal distribution and Weibull distribution probability density function. The daily maximum wind speed was compared with the critical wind speed that could cause crop damage to determine the level of stages for wind damage, e.g., "watch" or "warning." Spatial interpolation of the regression coefficient for the maximum wind speed, the standard deviation of the estimation error at the automated weather stations, the parameters of Weibull distribution was performed. These interpolated values at the four synoptic weather stations including Suncheon, Namwon, Imsil, and Jangsu were used to estimate the daily maximum wind speed in 2012. The wind damage risk was determined using the critical wind speed of 10m/s under the assumption that the fruit of a pear variety Mansamgil would begin to drop at 10 m/s. The results indicated that the Weibull distribution was more effective than the normal distribution for the estimation error probability distribution for assessing wind damage risk.
Underwater communication (UWC) is widely used in coastal surveillance and early warning systems. Precise channel estimation is vital for efficient and reliable UWC. The sparse direct-adaptive filtering algorithms have become popular in UWC. Herein, we present an improved adaptive convex-combination method for the identification of sparse structures using a reweighted normalized leastmean-square (RNLMS) algorithm. Moreover, to make RNLMS algorithm independent of the reweighted l1-norm parameter, a modified sparsity-aware adaptive zero-attracting RNLMS (AZA-RNLMS) algorithm is introduced to ensure accurate modeling. In addition, we present a quantitative analysis of this algorithm to evaluate the convergence speed and accuracy. Furthermore, we derive an excess mean-square-error expression that proves that the AZA-RNLMS algorithm performs better for the harsh underwater channel. The measured data from the experimental channel of SPACE08 is used for simulation, and results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm. The simulation results confirm that the proposed algorithm for underwater channel estimation performs better than the earlier schemes.

This paper proposes a method for improving the performance of a position sensorless control system for a slotless surface permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) in a very low-speed region. In position sensorless control based on a motor model, accurate motor parameters are required because parameter errors would affect position estimation accuracy. Therefore, online parameter identification is applied in the proposed system. The error between the reference voltage and the voltage applied to the motor is also affect position estimation accuracy and stability, thus it is compensated to ensure accuracy and stability of the sensorless control system. In this study, two voltage error compensation methods are used, and the effects of the compensation methods are discussed. The performance of the proposed sensorless control method is evaluated by experimental results.

This paper proposes an estimation algorithm to find the moment of inertia, which is essential to design high performance controller for motor drive system. The algorithm finds the moment of inertia observing the position error signal, which contains an error information of moment of inertia, generated by speed observer. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is easily realized in the observer-based speed detection method. The simulation and experimental results are also presented to confirm the performance of moment of inertia estimation method, which shows that the moment of inertia converges to the actual value within several seconds. The speed control responses and the designed speed controller performance match well.

The Observer proposed in this system, by appling Reduced-Dimensional State Observer to Load-Torque estimation and using for speed estimation, implements system composition simply and is capable of accurate Instantaneous Speed estimation in Very Low Speed Region. Also, this study reduces influence by System Noise and suggests an induction motor speed control system which is effective in Load Disturbance, modeling error, estimation noise and so on without changing pole of an Observer.
This research is a comprehensive analysis of wind power prediction sensitivity using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) deep learning neural network model, accounting for the inherent uncertainties in wind speed estimation. Utilizing a year's worth of operational data from an operational wind farm, the study forecasts the power output of both individual wind turbines and the farm collectively. Predictions were made daily at intervals of 10 minutes and 1 hour over a span of three months. The model's forecast accuracy was evaluated by comparing the root mean square error (RMSE), normalized RMSE (NRMSE), and correlation coefficients with actual power output data. Moreover, the research investigated how inaccuracies in wind speed inputs affect the power prediction sensitivity of the model. By simulating wind speed errors within a normal distribution range of 1% to 15%, the study analyzed their influence on the accuracy of power predictions. This investigation provided insights into the required wind speed prediction error rate to achieve an 8% power prediction error threshold, meeting the incentive standards for forecasting systems in renewable energy generation.
