  • A high speed Analog parallel processing-based Viterbi decoder with a circularly connected 2D analog processing cell array is proposed. It has a 2D parallel processing structure in which an analog processing cell is placed at each node of trellis diagram is connected circulary so that infinitively expanding trellis diagram is realized with the fixed size of circuits. The proposed Viterbi decoder has advantages in that it is operated with better performance of error corrections, has a shorter latency and requires no path memories. In this parer, the performance of error correction as a reference position with the Analog parallel processing-based Viterbi decoder is testd via the software simulation

  • In this paper, a prediction system is proposed to control the brightness of smart street lamps by predicting the moving path through the reduction of consumption power and information of pedestrian's past moving direction while meeting the function of existing smart street lamps. The brightness of smart street lamps is adjusted by utilizing the walk tracking vector and soft hand-off characteristics obtained through the motion sensing sensor of smart street lamps. In addition, the motion vector is used to analyze and predict the pedestrian path, and the GPU is used for high-speed computation. Pedestrians were detected using adaptive Gaussian mixing, weighted difference imaging, and motion vectors, and motions of pedestrians were analyzed using the extracted motion vectors. The preprocessing process using linear interpolation is performed to improve the performance of the proposed prediction system. Fuzzy prediction system and neural network prediction system are designed in parallel to improve efficiency and rough set is used for error correction.

  • In this paper, the motion response and wave load of a container ship are treated by a nonlinear motion theory, which is similar to that used by Yamamoto et. al.[1]. This paper deals with the vertical motion response in oblique waves and the effect of the Smith correction in buoyancy force calculation. In the present computation, for S-175 container ship model our result also shows that the ratio of the motion peak to peak value to the wave height decreases as the wave height increases, which was obtained earlier by Yamamoto et.al.[3]. On the other hand the nondimensional midship bending moment increases as the wave height increases. These nonlinear effects are dominant near the resonance frequency, and depend on the hull form and forward speed. However, it is found that these nonlinear effects are significant for tanker model.

  • This article proposes a pressure based method for predicting flows at all speeds. The compressible SIMPLE algorithm is extended to unstructured grid framework. Convection terms are discretized using second-order scheme with deferred correction approach. Diffusion term discretization is based on structured grid analogy that can be easily adopted to hybrid unstructured grid solver. This method also uses node centered scheme with edge based data structure for memory and computing time efficiency of arbitrary grid types. Both incompressible and compressible benchmark problems are solved using the above methodology. The demonstration of this method is extended to slip flow problem that has low Reynolds number but compressibility effect. It is shown that the proposed method can improve efficiency in memory usage and computing time without losing any accuracy.

  • In this study, it is first intended to simulate the vertical profile of atmospheric flow in a short wind tunnel. In order to accomplish it, proper devices are designed properly to reduce freestream flow momentum and it is confirmed from the measured velocity profile using hot-wire anemometer that momentum flux of the tunnel free stream can be reduced and desired atmospheric boundary can be created. Second, experiments are performed to identify influences of a surrounding structure measuring correct wind velocity by an anemometer, which are located nearby due to area limitation in actual airport and correction factors are proposed from experimental results. One of findings is that in order to limit the velocity attenuation due to a nearby structure under 10%, wind velocity measuring equipment should be installed at least 6 times of the structure height away from the structure of concern.

  • A well-known pressure correction method, a SIMPLE algorithm, is extended to treat compressible flows. Collocated grids are used and density is linked to pressure via an equation of state. The influence of pressure on density in the case of compressible flows is implicitly incorporated into the extended SIMPLE algorithm. The first-order Upwind and high-order Quick scheme are compared with respect to an accuracy and convergence time at all speeds. The extended method is verified on a number of test cases and the results are compared with other numerical results available in the literature. The calculated results show that the Quick scheme improves accuracy at all speed and also reduces the calculation time at supersonic flows, compared with the Upwind scheme.

  • Presently, PET is widely used in oncology, but suffers from limitations of poor anatomical information. To compensate for this weakness, a combined PET/CT has been developed by Professor Townsend at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The prototype was designed as PET and CT components combined serially in a gantry. The CT images provide not only accurate anatomical location of the lesions but also transmission map for attenuation correction. More than 300 cancer patients have been studied with the prototype of PET/CT since July, 1998. The PET/CT studies affected the managements in about $20{\sim}30%$ of cancer patients. These changes are a consequence of the more accurate localization of functional abnormalities, and the distinction of pathological from normal physiological uptake. Now a variety of combined PET/CT scanners with high-end PET and high-end CT components are commercially available. With the high speed of multi-slice helical CT, throughput of patient's increases compared to conventional PET. Although some problems (such as a discrepancy in breathing state between the two modalities) still remain, the role of PET/CT in oncology is very promising.

  • Following the success of detecting fringes on KVN (Korean VLBI Network), a phase referencing observation is currently planned in order to achieve a better sensitivity in mm-VLBI. The high frequency observation ($\geq$ 22 GHz), wide bandwidths (~512 MHz) and high speed data recording (~1 Gbps, Mark5B) will result in resolution and sensitivity improvement on KVN. In particular, two powerful techniques of VLBI phase correction by fast-antenna switching and multi-frequency phase referencing are also introduced in KVN, hoping to resolve the problem of atmospheric delay errors which degrade the coherence significantly. In this study, we have compared the expected performance of phase referencing between fast antenna switching and multi-frequency phase referencing and discussed the essential condition and postulates of phase referencing for KVN.

  • A thermal imaging system is implemented for the measurement and the analysis of the thermal distribution of the target objects. The main part of the system is a thermal camera in which a focal plane array typed sensor is introduced. The sensor detects the mid-range infrared spectrum of target objects and then it outputs a generic video signal which should be processed to form a frame thermal image. Here, a digital signal processor(DSP) is applied for the high speed processing of the sensor signals. The DSP controls analog-to-digital converter, performs correction algorithms and outputs the frame thermal data to frame buffers. With the frame buffers can be generated a NTSC signal and transferred the frame data to personal computer(PC) for the analysis and a monitoring of the thermal scenes. By performing the signal processing functions in the DSP the overall system achieves a simple configuration. Several experimental results indicate the performance of the overall system.
