  • Major countries in space field such as the United States, China and Russia have not only general ground-based space capabilities, but also maritime-based space capabilities. Maritime-based space systems include a maritime-based space surveillance system, a maritime-based space launch vehicle, and a maritime-based space information transmission system, and these maritime-based systems complement the ground-based space systems. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the maritime-based space capabilities of major countries, and propose the future direction for south Korea's maritime-based space capabilities. The maritime-based space system is essential due to the geographical characteristics of south Korea, which has three sides of the ocean, and it is considered an one of important strategic element to become the seven major country in the space field.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop ubiquitous systems based upon individual space in an apartment dwelling, which are called space-based systems in a ubiquitous Apartment. This research investigates the present technology-based ubiquitous systems in apartment design and also include the recent design themes such as 'well-being space' and 'flexible space' to develop Space-Based systems. The proposed the Space-based Systems are concretely applied in a characteristic dwelling unit of stepped level apartment with specific activity scenarios to demonstrate their actual realization. This paper also focuses on 'responsive systems' with automated actuators and sensors as well as on 'flexible infill systems' to accommodate various space needs.

  • Size of building has a direct relationship with building cost, energy use and space maintenance cost. Therefore, minimizing building size during a project development is of paramount importance against such wastes. However, incautious reduction of building size may result in crowded space, and therefore harms the functionality despite the fact that building is supposed to satisfactorily support users' activity. A well-balanced design solution is, therefore, needed at an optimum level that minimizes building size in tandem with providing sufficient space to maintain functionality. For such design, architects and engineers need to be informed accurate and reliable space-use information. We present in this paper a conceptual framework of an agent-based space-use prediction simulation system that provides individual level space-use information over time in a building in consideration of project specific user information and activity schedules, space preference, ad beavioural rules. The information will accordingly assist architects and engineers to optimize space of the building as appropriate.

  • Recent social studies on space have focused on changing the social relations that activate in space. In general, these studies have been based on the concept of social space on which is grounded the power-relation analysis such as power, oppression, resource allocation, and so on. Social work practice has traditionally recognized the importance of the environment surrounding human beings. Nonetheless, social work practice has tended to comprehend space in a neutral and abstract way because it has insufficiently considered modern spatial theories. For this reason, this study focusing on Lefebvre's social space theory reviewed the contemporary discourses on space in the area of social work practice. Following the review, this study attempted to establish the concept of "Space-based Social Work Practice". Specifically, this study analyzed the actual cases in social work field and explored the applicability of "SSWP". According to the results, this study delivered the implications of Space-based Social Work Practice as an alternative method and suggested the practical direction of SSWP.

  • We have developed a data integration system for ground-based space weather facilities in Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI). The data integration system is necessary to analyze and use ground-based space weather data efficiently, and consists of a server system and data monitoring systems. The server system consists of servers such as data acquisition server or web server, and storage. The data monitoring systems include data collecting and processing applications and data display monitors. With the data integration system we operate the Space Weather Monitoring Lab (SWML) where real-time space weather data are displayed and our ground-based observing facilities are monitored. We expect that this data integration system will be used for the highly efficient processing and analysis of the current and future space weather data at KASI.

  • In the display of virtual space, the degree of space virtualization cannot be judged only by the degree of material technology. Based on the non-material relationship, the virtual space that this research focuses on is a conceptual and ontological point of view (based on the conceptual and ontological viewpoints of non-material relations), including practical technical issues. The research on the characteristics of virtual space ontology not only has an impact on the space design of science fiction movies, but also becomes a powerful medium that brings changes to the world. In the future, there will be a large number of cases where fantasy things in science fiction movies are actualized. From this perspective, based on the study of several science fiction movies using virtual reality scenes, this paper puts forward a study on the representation characteristics of virtual space ontology. In addition, the study of the virtual reality is of great significance for verifying the possibility of virtual reality in the application of deep space technology in the future. At the same time, it provides reference value for the development of special effects film field from montage theory-based to Bazin theory-based expression, and contributes to the theoretical system of film space.

  • In this paper, we have made the component-based development of observational software for KASI solar imaging spectrograph (KSIS) that is able to obtain three-dimensional imaging spectrograms by using a scanning mirror in front of the spectrograph slit. Since 2002, the KASI solar spectrograph has been successfully operated to observe solar spectra for a given slit region as well as to inspect the response functions of narrow band filters. To improve its capability, we have developed the KSIS that can perform sequential observations of solar spectra by simultaneously controlling the scanning mirror and the CCD camera via Visual C++. Main task of this paper is to introduce the development of the component-based software for KSIS. Each component of the software is reusable on the level of executable file instead of source code because the software was developed by using CBD (component-based development) methodology. The main advantage of such a component-based software is that key components such as image processing component and display component can be applied to other similar observational software without any modifications. Using this software, we have successfully obtained solar imaging spectra of an active region (AR 10708) including a small sunspot. Finally, we present solar $H{\alpha}$ spectra ($6562.81{\AA}$) that were obtained at an active region and a quiet region in order to confirm the validity of the developed KSIS and its software.

  • We propose an global color model based method for tracking motions of multiple human using a networked multiple-camera system in intelligent space as a human-robot coexistent system. An intelligent space is a space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors(color CCD cameras for example), are distributed. Human beings can be a part of intelligent space as well. One of the main goals of intelligent space is to assist humans and to do different services for them. In order to be capable of doing that, intelligent space must be able to do different human related tasks. One of them is to identify and track multiple objects seamlessly. In the environment where many camera modules are distributed on network, it is important to identify object in order to track it, because different cameras may be needed as object moves throughout the space and intelligent space should determine the appropriate one. This paper describes appearance based unknown object tracking with the distributed vision system in intelligent space. First, we discuss how object color information is obtained and how the color appearance based model is constructed from this data. Then, we discuss the global color model based on the local color information. The process of learning within global model and the experimental results are also presented.
