  • The buckling of an orthotropic layer bonded to an orthotropic half-space with an interface crack subjected to compressive load under plane strain is analyzed. General solution to the stability equations describing the buckling behavior of both the layer and the half-space is expressed in terms of displacement functions. The displacement functions are represented by the solution of Cauchy-type singular integral equations, which are numerically solved. Numerical results of the critical buckling loads are presented fur various geometric parameters and material properties of both the layer and half-space.

  • In this paper, the Artificial Intelligence Space(AI-Space) for human-robot interface is presented, which can enable human-computer interfacing, networked camera conferencing, industrial monitoring, service and training applications. We present a method for representing, tracking, and objects(human, robot, chair) following by fusing distributed multiple vision systems in AI-Space. The article presents the integration of color distributions into particle filtering. Particle filters provide a robust tracking framework under ambiguous conditions. We propose to track the moving objects(human, robot, chair) by generating hypotheses not in the image plane but on the top-view reconstruction of the scene.

  • Periodic lattice structures such as the large space lattice structures and carbon nanotubes may take the extension-transverse shear-bending coupled vibrations, which can be well represented by the extended Timoshenko beam theory. In this paper, the spectrally formulated finite element model (simply, spectral element model) has been developed for extended Timoshenko beams and applied to some typical periodic lattice structures such as the armchair carbon nanotube, the periodic plane truss, and the periodic space lattice beam.

  • ASTRO-F is the first Japanese dedicated infrared astronomical satellite which will be launched in 2005FY and is now in the final stage of the development. ASTRO-F is a 70 cm aperture cryogenically cooled telescope and designed for the infrared survey with much higher sensitivity and angular resolution than IRAS. We present the current status of the mission, focal plane instruments, and the observation plan now being discussed.

  • We study surfaces of revolution in the three dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^3$ with two distinct axes of revolution. As a result, we prove that if a connected surface in the three dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^3$ admits two distinct axes of revolution, then it is either a sphere or a plane.

  • In this paper, we study null helices, null slant helices and Cartan slant helices in $\mathb{E}^3_1$. Using some associated curves, we characterize the null helices and the Cartan slant helices and construct them. Also, we study a space-like curve with the principal normal vector field which is a degenerate plane curve.

  • We report the detailed design of an unprecedented wideband(band7+8) corrugated feed horn in ASTE focal plane array aiming for future ALMA receiver. We have found that such design constraints as return loss, cross-polarization level, beam width and phase curvature can be controlled by optimizing critical corrugation parameters at the throat and flare region of the horn. The success of optimization manifest itself through simulated aperture effciency over 80 % at the entire frequency range. Physical implications of the resulting corrugation parameters are discussed.

  • Analytical techniques for use with reconnaissance frame photographs are outlined. The first approach is a point-by-point space resection in which the dynamic properties of the camera are taken into account. In the second approach appropriate parameters are added to correct for image distoritions, caused by the focal plane shutter, during the space resection phase. Test results showed that the analytical techniques developed will significantly improve the planimetric and height accuracy obtained by conventional methods.

  • In this paper, we study the rectifying curves in multiplicative Euclidean space of dimension 3, i.e., those curves for which the position vector always lies in its rectifying plane. Since the definition of rectifying curve is affine and not metric, we are directly able to perform multiplicative differential-geometric concepts to investigate such curves. By several characterizations, we completely classify the multiplicative rectifying curves by means of the multiplicative spherical curves.
