  • In this study, orbit determination (OD) simulation for the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) was accomplished for investigation of the observational arc-length effect using a sequential estimation algorithm. A lunar polar orbit located at 100 km altitude and $90^{\circ}$ inclination was mainly considered for the KPLO mission operation phase. For measurement simulation and OD for KPLO, the Analytical Graphics Inc. Systems Tool Kit 11 and Orbit Determination Tool Kit 6 software were utilized. Three deep-space ground stations, including two deep space network (DSN) antennas and the Korea Deep Space Antenna, were configured for the OD simulation. To investigate the arc-length effect on OD, 60-hr, 48-hr, 24-hr, and 12-hr tracking data were prepared. Position uncertainty by error covariance and orbit overlap precision were used for OD performance evaluation. Additionally, orbit prediction (OP) accuracy was also assessed by the position difference between the estimated and true orbits. Finally, we concluded that the 48-hr-based OD strategy is suitable for effective flight dynamics operation of KPLO. This work suggests a useful guideline for the OD strategy of KPLO mission planning and operation during the nominal lunar orbits phase.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze size and proportion of plan and section, and derive characteristics by types of worship-space in central hall of buddhist temple. This study covers 45 buddhist temples as designated national treasure and treasure. Types of central hall of buddhist temple are 'Columnless Type', 'Inner Column Type', and 'Colonnade Type'. The results are as follows. Firstly, in the proportion of width and length, 'Columnless Type' is mostly represented with 1:0.73, 'Inner Column Type' with 1:0.54 and seems to be widening for the other types, and 'Colonnade Type' is same proportion with 'Columnless Type'. Secondly, in the proportion of width and height, 'Columnless Type' is 1:0.61 and sizes of worship-space of this type are different but the proportion is same. In the 'Inner Column Type', worship-space is enlarged because a buddhist altar is hustled into the rear. Thirdly, in the proportion of length and height, all types are represented with similar proportion as 1:1. Finally, proportion of the volume of worship-space in 'Columnless Type' is 1(width):0.74(length):0.60(height). The case of 'Inner Column Type' is 1:0.57:0.57 and length of worship-space is shortened, so characteristics of horizontality is emphasized. The space of same size with the proportion of 'Columnless Type' is situated in the inside of worship-space in 'Colonnade Type'.

  • As described in the previous paper (Park et al. 2013), the detector subsystem of optical wide-field patrol (OWL) provides many observational data points of a single artificial satellite or space debris in the form of small streaks, using a chopper system and a time tagger. The position and the corresponding time data are matched assuming that the length of a streak on the CCD frame is proportional to the time duration of the exposure during which the chopper blades do not obscure the CCD window. In the previous study, however, the length was measured using the diagonal of the rectangle of the image area containing the streak; the results were quite ambiguous and inaccurate, allowing possible matching error of positions and time data. Furthermore, because only one (position, time) data point is created from one streak, the efficiency of the observation decreases. To define the length of a streak correctly, it is important to locate the endpoints of a streak. In this paper, a method using a differential convolution mask pattern is tested. This method can be used to obtain the positions where the pixel values are changed sharply. These endpoints can be regarded as directly detected positional data, and the number of data points is doubled by this result.

  • In satellite operations and space exploration missions, a ranging is one of the most essential technologies to get its navigational information of space probes. Recently, the importance of cross-support between space agencies is increasing for more fine performance of space mission. For cross-support, mutually compatible ranging system between space agencies is recommended. For these reasons, the consultative committee for space data systems (CCSDS) recommends pseudo noise (PN) ranging as a digital standard ranging system. The length of PN sequence in CCSDS standard is proper for deep space missions, however, it is too long to use for ranging in near earth missions. In this paper, we propose Variable Length PN sequence schemes suitable for ranging of near earth satellites, such as low-earth orbit (LEO), medium-earth orbit (MEO) and Geostationary orbit (GEO). Therefore we propose variable length PN sequence ranging system including CCSDS standard for multiple missions.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was assessment of the relationship between airway space and facial morphology in Class III children with nasal obstruction. Methods: For this study, 100 Class III children (50 boys and 50 girls) were chosen. All subjects were refered to ENT, due to nasal obstruction. Airway space measurements and facial morphology measurements were measured on lateral cephalometric radiograph. Pearson correlation analysis was used to assess the relationship between airway space and facial morphology Results: Ramal height, SNA, SNB, PFH, FHR and facial plane angle were positively related to upper PAS, and sum of saddle angle, articular angle, and genial angle, SN-GoGn, Y-axis to SN and FMA negatively related to upper PAS. Genial angle, FMA were positively related to lower PAS, and articular angle, facial depth, PFH and FHR negatively related to lower PAS. PCBL, ramal height, Mn. body length, Mn. body length to ACBL, facial depth, facial length, PFH and AFH were positively related to tonsil size. Sum of saddle angle, articular angle, genial angle, facial length, AFH, FMA and LFH were positively related to tongue gap, and IMPA and overbite was negatively related to tongue gap. Upper PAS, related to size of adenoid tissue, was mainly related to posterior facial dimension following a vertical growth pattern of face and mandibular rotation. Lower PAS and tonsil size, related to anterior-posterior tongue base position, were significantly related to each other. Lower PAS was related to growth pattern of mandible, and tonsil size was related to size of mandible and horizontal growth pattern of face. Tongue gap was related to anterior facial dimension following a vertical growth pattern of face. Conclusion: Significant relationship exists between airway space and facial morphology.

  • We calculated the wind velocities for 32 Cyg in order to understand how influence a damping length on the wind of supergiant driven by Alfven waves. Four cases, $\lambda$=0.9, 1.0, 5.0, the ratio of the damping length to the supergiant's radius, and the damping length increasing linearly with the distance from the star, were compared. The results showed the forces by Alfven waves gave the major contribution to the wind velocity but the forces by the pressure and gravitation did little. The model for the damping length with the linear relation showed the rapid increased due to short damping length near the surface of the star.

  • We studied the hour-lines of six extant Yangcheon-cheoks in Korea. To find whether Yangcheon-cheok was used in the whole area of Korea, we calculated the length of shadows of Yangcheon-cheok on the Korean Peninsula, Nanjing and Beijing as well as Hanyang (Seoul), according to 24 solar terms. Comparing the length of shadows with hour-lines of those relics, we could find that Yangcheon-cheok was suitable for use at limited times (from 9:00 to 15:00) during the year. Also, this sundial is more appropriate for use at low latitudes than high ones. Among existing relics, that of Seoul Museum of History made with porcelain was much more suitable to use at Hanyang and its higher latitude. Lee's collection was also suitable to use at Nanjing. It is certain that Yangcheon-cheok was a portable sundial which could be used from nine to fifteen of clock all the year around except for the winter season.

  • This paper presents a new method for the attitude control of planar space robots. In order to control highly constrained non-linear system such as a 3D space robot, the analytical formulation for the system with complex dynamics and effective control methodology based on the formulation, are not always obtainable. In the proposed method, correspondingly, a non-analytical but effective self-organizing modeling method for controlling a highly constrained system is proposed based on a polynomial data mining algorithm. In order to control the attitude of a planar space robot, it is well known to require inputs characterized by a special pattern in time series with a non-deterministic length. In order to correspond to this type of control paradigm, we adopt the Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme where the length of the non-deterministic horizon is determined based on implementation cost and control performance. The optimal solution to finding the size of the input pattern is found by a solving two-stage programming problem.
