  • The ship's signal sound dispersed by air, obstacles, and noises due to absorption, reflection, and disturbances, respectively. It is one of the factors of marine casualties by misjudgment if receiving direction The last target of this study is to prevent inherent marine casualty using the analysis-evaluation techniques if the interferences of ship's signal sound. In this work, three-dimensional sound field control model is proposed to simulate various sound transmitting characteristics according to sea environments at sea The efficiency test of the model was carried out using VR-based ship simulator.

  • A theoretical model has been studied to describe the sound radiation analysis for structural vibration noise control of tire under the action of random moving line forces. When a tire is analyzed, it has been modeled as a curved beam with distributed springs and dash-pots which represent the radial, tangential stiffness and damping of tire, respectively. The reaction due to fluid loading on the vibratory response of the curved beam is taken into account. The curved beam is assumed to occupy the plane y = 0 and to be axially infinite. The material of curved beam and elastic foundation are assumed to be lossless, and governed by the law of Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The expression for sound power is integrated numerically and its results examined as a function of Mach number(M), wavenumber ratio(.gamma.) and stiffness factor(.PSI.). The experimental investigation for structural vibration noise of tire under the action of random moving line forces has been made. Based on the STSF(Spatial Transformation of Sound Field) techniques, the sound power and sound radiation are measured. The experimental results show that operating condition, material properties and design factors of the tire have a great effect on the sound power and sound radiation characteristics.

  • The quality of various noises generated in the refrigerator is one of the important factors in deciding quality of the product. The main focus of sound control design has been shifted from reduction of sound level to improvement of sound duality for customer's preference. Up to date the purpose of noise control is the minimization of noise level. However despite of gradual decrease of noise level, occasionally the perceptional quality of noise has not been improved. In this paper, the relation between subjective and objective evaluation of sound quality has established and sound quality index is developed using ANN for evaluation of refrigerator's noise of both the starting noise and the stable running noise of compressor. To verify the usefulness of the index, the results in this paper have been compared with those surveyed by Consumer Union in USA.

  • In order to detect and suppress chatter in turning process, a stability control methodology was studied through manipulation of spindle speeds regarding to chatter frequencies, The chatter frequency was identified by monitoring and signal processing of sound pressure during turing on a lathe. The stability control methodology can select stable spindle speeds without knowing a prior knowledge of machine compliances and cutting dynamics. Reliability of the developed stability control methodology was verified through turing experiments on an engine lathe. Experimental results show that a microphone is an excellent sensor for chatter detection and control .

  • Sound pressure and particle velocity are the most essential quantities prescribing a sound field; they correspond to voltage and electric current respectively, in electric system. As electric power is the product of voltage and electric current, sound intensity is the product of sound pressure and particle velocity and it means the acoustic power passing through a unit area in a sound field. Although the definition of sound intensity is very simple as mentioned above, the method of measuring this quantity has not been realized for a long time, because it has been very difficult to measure the particle velocity simultaneously with the sound pressure. Owing to the recent development of such technologies as transducer production and digital signal processing, it has finally been realized. According to the sound intensity(SI) method, the sound power flow in an arbitrary sound field can be directly measured as a vector quantify. In this paper, the principle of the SI method is briefly explained at first and some examples of its application made in the author's laboratory are introduced.

  • In this paper, a temperature control for LED(Light Emitting Diode) lamp using a cooling fan is studied. An efficient temperature control scheme for the LED lamp using the fan wind at the lowest sound noise is studied. For the study, after measurement of the minimum sound noise of the fan and related temperature of the LED lamp through tests, experiments on temperature control of the LED lamp using the fan with various size of heat sinks was performed. To minimize the fan sound noise, optimal size of the heat sink was studied. Also, a teleoperting control of LED lamps using RF communication was studied.

  • This paper investigates the filtered velocity feedback(FVF) controller for the reduction of the acoustic power radiated from a clamped beam. The instability problem due to the non-collocated sensor/actuator configuration when using PZT actuator should be sorted out. The roll-off property of the FVF controller at high frequency helps to alleviate the instability. The dynamics of clamped beams under forces and moments pair and the FVF controller are first formulated. The formulation of the sound radiated power is followed. The open loop transfer function(OLTF) synthesized with 100 modes is used to determine the stability of the control system. The control performance is finally estimated. The levels of the vibration and the sound radiated power are reduced in the wide bandbelow the tuning mode of the FVF controller.

  • The changes in sound absorption capability and air permeability of Malas wood after high temperature heat treatment were investigated. The average air permeability of Malas in longitudinal direction after heated under the temperature of $190^{\circ}C$ during 3 hours was about 23.48 darcys and that of control was about 3.11 darcys. The noise reduction coefficients of Malas specimens were 17% for treatment and 10% for control. The means of sound absorption coefficient of specimens in the frequency range of 50~6,400 Hz were 42% for treatment and 17% for control, respectively.

  • In order to successfully exploit underwater resources, the first step would be a marine environmental research and exploration on the seafloor. Traditionally one sets up a long-term underwater experimental unit on the seafloor and retrieves the unit later after a certain period time. Essential to these applications is the reliable teleoperation and telemetering of the unit. This study presents ultrasonic-wave remote control system and an underwater sound recognition algorithm that can identify the sound signal without the influence of disturbances due to underwater environmental changes. The proposed method provides a means suitable for units which require low power dissipation and long-time underwater operation. We demonstrate its ability of securing stability and fast sound recognition through experimental methods.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate a possible occlusal contributing factor on the pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint sound by a new computer aided method for analysis of occlusal contact. 20 subjects without temporomandibular joint sound as control group and 20 subjects with temporomandibular joint sound as experimental group in the TMJ clinic, dental infirmary, School of Dentistry, Chosun University were selected so as to investigate the distribution and intensity of the bilateral occlusal contacts on silicone rubber bites in habitual intercusal position through a computer aided system. The following results were obtained : 1. The distribution and intensity of the occlusal contact could be analyzed and expressed as color density value per levels by this computer aided method. 2. There was not statistical significance between control and experimental group in total occlusal contacts. 3. There was statistical significance between control and experimental group In the total difference of right and left occlusal contacts.(P<0.05).
