This study was carried out to develop a simulation model with EES(Engineering equation solver) for analyzing the performance of a grain cooler. In order to validate the developed simulation model, several main factors which have affected on the performance of the gain cooler were investigated through experiments. A simulation model was developed in the standard vapor compression cycle, and then this model was modified considering irreversibe factors so that the developed alternate model could predict the actual cycle of a grain cooler. The compressor efficiency in vapor compression cycle considering irreversibility much affected on the coefficient of performance(COP). The COP in the standard vapor compression cycle model was greatly as high as about 6.50, but the COP in an alternative model considering irreversibility was as low as about 3.27. As a result of comparison between the actual cycle and the vapor compression cycle considering irreversibility, the difference of pressure at compressor outlet(inlet) was a little by about 48kPa (8.8kPa), the temperatures of refrigerant at main parts of the grain cooler were similar. and the temperature of chilled air was about 8$\^{C}$ in both. The model considering irreversibility could predict performance of the grain cooler. The theoretical period required to chill grain of 1,383kg from the initial temperature 24$\^{C}$ to below 11$\^{C}$ was about 55 hours 30 minutes, and the actual period required in a grain bin was about 58 hours. The difference between the predicted and an actual period was about 2 hours 30 minutes. The cooling performance predicted by the developed model could well estimate the cooling period required to chill the grain.

The aerodynamic optimization method for airfoil design was described in this paper. The Navier-Stokes equations were solved to consider the viscous flow information around an airfoil. The Modified Method of Feasible Direction(MMFD) was used for sensitivity analysis and the polynomial interpolation was used for distance calculation of the minimization. The Message Passing Interface(MPI) library of parallel computation was adopted to reduce the computation time of flow solver by decomposing the entire computational domain into 8 sub-domains and one-to-one allocating 8 processors to 8 sub-domains. The parallel computation was also used to compute the sensitivity analysis by allocating each search direction to each processor. The present optimization reduced the drag of airfoil while the lift is maintained at the tolerable design value.

In this paper, a computational algorithm of an improved and versatile structural analysis applicable for large-size flexible nonlinear structures is developed. In more detail, nonlinear finite element based on the co-rotational (CR) framework is developed. Then, a finite element tearing and interconnecting method using local Lagrange multipliers (FETI-local) is combined with the nonlinear CR finite element. The resulting computational algorithm is presented and applied for nonlinear static analyses, i.e., cantilevered beam and multibody structure. Finally, the proposed analysis is evaluated with regard to its parallel computation performance, and it is compared with those obtained by serial computation using the sparse matrix linear solver, PARDISO.

In this paper, the characteristics of a inset fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna for S-band applications is studied. The variations of return loss along inset length and inset width are investigated on the inset fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna. From the investigated results, the optimized inset fed antenna is designed. At the resonant frequency 2.3 GHz, the optimized dimension of the patch is $45.0mm{\times}40.9mm$. The inset length and width are 14 mm and 1 mm, respectively. The designed antenna is fabricated on the substrate which has a dielectric constant and thickness with 2.5 and 0.787 mm. Simulation results are obtained by a 3D EM(Electromagnetic) solver. The resonant frequency and return loss are measured 2.3025 GHz and -21.11 dB, respectively. The measured and simulated results of the fabricated antenna are in good agreement.

Web based simulation service is utilized to computationally analyze various phenomena in real world according to the progress of network and computing technology. In this paper, we present an improvement and utilization of e-AIRS (e-Science Aerospace Integrated Research System). e-AIRS, has been utilized to support web based CFD simulation service since 2008. has some problems such as stable system, pre processing, post processing. To solver this problem, we improved e-AIRS such as distributed service processing, personal simulation job assignment control, and faster data loading. After improvement, although users increase from 110 to 606, the priority of user requirements is changed from stable system to pre/post processor. User requirements and statistics about e-AIRS simulation service for each semester is analyzed to support more stable and comfortable service.
The height and speed of the shock wave are critical data in flood-control operations or in the design of channel walls and bridges along rivers with high flow velocities. Therefore, a numerical model is needed for simulating flow discontinuity over a wide range of conditions. In this study, a governing equation. As a Riemann solver Roe(1981)'s one is used. The model employs the modified MUSCL for handling the unstructured grids in this research. this model that adopts the explicit tradditional twl dimmensional dam break problems, two hydraulic dam break model is simulations, and a steady state simulation in a curved channel. Conclusions of this research are as follows : 1) the finite volume method can be combined with the Godonov-type method that is useful for modeling shocks. Hence, the finite volume method is suitable for modeling shocks. 2) The finite volume model combined with the modified MUSCL is successful in modeling shock. Therefore, modified MUSCL is proved to be valid.
This paper describes a finite volume, two-dimensional model. It adopts a recently developed essentially non-oscillatory(ENO) schemes based on the Lax-Friedrichs solver, which was modified for a finite volume grid, and employs a modified MUSCL(Monotonic Upstream centered Scheme for Conservation Law) for second-order accuracy in space. To demonstrate the applications of the model, it is applied to solve the 1-D and 2-D dam-break problems. The model in conjunction with the modified MUSCL showed a better agreement with analytical solutions than the minmod function in 1-D dam-break problems and is satisfactorily validated with documented published data in 2-D dam-break problems. The model was applied to tidal wane entering channel at one end, and the results showed a good agreement with analytical solutions. In the channel with reflective boundary conditions specified at the extremities, the model was capable of accurately simulating the wave propagation.

Recently, the importance of CAE research is growing with the advances of the automotive and computer industry. In addition, multi-body dynamics and powertrain analysis are the most important factors in improving the vehicle design. Since engine torque with curve-data was used for analyzing full car simulation in the multi-body dynamics system for many years, it is impossible to assess the concurrent analysis of the engine and powertrain element included in a real full car system. In powertrain, since vehicle are usually modeled as a simple mass and a inertia, they can not be seen as real cars. Moreover, it is hard to obtain additional dynamics data other than the longitudinal velocity value in movement. Because of the reason that was previously discussed, it is necessary to consolidate the two parts as one routine program for design and development through the coordinate system connectivity, and presented here is a program named O-DYN. Using an object-oriented language C++, this program has a good structure with the valuable characteristics of objectivity, inheritance, and reusability. The reliability of this multi-body dynamics program is examined by DADS, which is the general dynamics program, using DAE solver and PECE integral function with the common coordinator separation method. As a result, we can obtain a better solution and total dynamics data in either area through this process. This program will be useful for analyzing full car simulation with powertrain.
This is a case study trying to understand from the view of affordance which certain three middle school students perceive an activation of previous knowledge in the course of problem solving when they solve algebra word problems with a previous knowledge. The results of this study showed that at first, every subjects perceived the text as affordance which explaining superficial similarities, that is, a working(painting)situation rather than problem structure and then activated the related solution knowledge on the ground of the experience of previous problem solving which is similar to current situation. The subject's applying process for solving knowledge could be arranged largely into two types. The first type is a numeral information connected with the described problem situation or a symbolic representation of mathematical meaning which are the transformed solution applied process with a suitable solution formula to the current problem. This process achieved by constructing a virtual mental model that indicating mathematical situation about the problem when the solver read the problem integrating symbolized information from the described text. The second type is a case that those subjects symbolizing a formal mathematical concept which is not connected with the problem situation about the described numeral information from the applied problem or the text of mathematical meaning, which process is the case to perceive superficial phrases or words that described from the problem as affordance and then applied previously used algorithmatical formula as it was. In conclusion, on the ground of the results of this case study, it is guessed that many students put only algorithmatical knowledge in their memories through previous experiences of problem solving, and the memories are connected with the particular phrases described from the problems. And it is also recognizable when the reflection process which is the last step of problem solving carried out in the process of understanding the problem and making a plan showed the most successful in problem solving.

A customized CFD simulator to perform thermo-fluid dynamic simulations of an HVAC for an indoor space is presented. This simulation system has been developed for engineers studying architectural engineering, as the HVAC mechanical systems used in housings and buildings. Hence, all functions and options are so designed to be suitable that they are suitable for non-CFD experts as well as CFD engineers. A Computational mesh is generated by open-source libraries, FEMM (Finite Element Method Magnetics), and OpenFOAM. Once the boundary conditions are set, the fluid dynamic calculations are performed using the OpenFOAM solver. Numerical results are validated by comparing them with the experimental data for a simple indoor air flow case. In this paper, an entirely new calculation process is introduced, and the flow simulation results for a sample office room are also discussed.
