Schottky barrier Thin-Film-Transistors crystallized by Excimer laser annealing and solid phase crystallization method (ELA 결정화와 SPC 결정화를 이용한 쇼트키 장벽 다결정 실리콘 박막 트랜지스터)

  • Polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) Schottky barrier thin film transistors (SB-TFT) are fabricated by erbium silicided source/drain for n-type SB-TFT. High quality poly-Si film were obtained by crystallizing the amorphous Si film with excimer laser annealing (ELA) or solid phase crystallization (SPC) method. The fabricated poly-Si SB-TFTs have a large on/off current ratio with a low leakage current. Moreover, the electrical characteristics of poly-Si SB TFTs are significantly improved by the additional forming gas annealing in 2 % $H_2/N_2$, because the interface trap states at the poly-Si grain boundaries and at the gate oxide/poly-Si channel decreased.

Integration of Headspace Solid Phase Micro-Extraction with Gas Chromatography for Quantitative Analysis of Formaldehyde

  • A study was carried out to evaluate the solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) for formaldehyde emission analysis of uncoated plywood. In SPME, formaldehyde was on-fiber derivatized through headspace extraction and analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The SPME was compared with desiccators (DC-JAS 233), small-scale chamber (SSC-ASTM D6007) and liquid-liquid extraction (LLE-EPA 556) methods which were performed in accordance with their respective standards. Compared to SSC (RSD 4.3%) and LLE (RSD 5.0%), the SPME method showed better repeatability (RSD 1.8%) and not much difference from DC (RSD 1.4%). The SPME has proven to be highly precise (at 95% confidence level) with better recovery (REC 102%). Validation of the SPME method for formaldehyde quantitative analysis was evidenced. In addition, the SPME by air sampling directly from plywood specimens (SPME-W) correlated best with DC ($r^2$ = 0.983), followed by LLE ($r^2$ = 0.950) and SSC ($r^2$ = 0.935).

  • Optimization and standardization of solid phase enzyme immunoassay were done for the diagnosis of edwardsiellosis in fish. The analyzed degree of immobilized antibody on surface of solid phase with peroxidase saturation method showed the optimized result by using partially purified $50{\mu}g/ml$ of rabbit anti-E. tarda Edk-2 antibody in sodium bicarbonate buffer for overnight incubation to cover the surface of polystyrene beads. Optimized immunoreaction was observed in the treatment of $50{\mu}g/ml$ of biotin conjugated antibody followed extravidin-peroxidase diluted 1 : 2,000 in PBS. The detectable concentrations of the this method were $1{\times}10^5$ cells/ml and $1{\times}10^5$ cells/ml expressed as the source of antigen amount for EDTA extraction and heat extraction, respectively. High cross-reaction of solid phase ELISA with the prepared rabbit and-E. tarda Edk-2 was observed against E. tarda strains isolated from flounder suffering from edwardsiellosis in aquatic farms of Korea. It suggested that the potential of this solid phase of ELISA technique is very powerful for the application to different strains of E. tarda isolated in farms of many different areas.

A Solid-Phase Extraction Method for Analyzing Trace Amounts of Polychlorinated Dibenzo-p-Dioxins and Dibenzofurans in Waste Water

  • The Korean government has regulated emission of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in waste water of manufacturing facilities producing chlorinated compounds since 2009. As this regulation is expected to be reinforced in 2013 to 50 pg I-TEQ/L, a large sample volume is required for the analysis of trace amounts of PCDD/Fs in waste water. Liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) is used to extract PCDD/Fs from aqueous samples; however, its low efficiency makes it inadequate for analyzing large sample volumes. Herein, we present a disk-type solid-phase extraction (SPE) method for the analysis of dioxin at a part per quadrillion level in waste water. This SPE system contains airtight glass covers with a decompression pump, which enables continuous semi-automated extraction. Small (0.5 L) and large (7 L) samples were extracted using LLE and SPE methods, respectively. The method detection limits (MDLs) were 0.001.0.25 and 0.015.4.1 pg I-TEQ/L for the SPE and LLE methods, respectively. The concentrations of detected congeners with both methods were similar. However, the concentrations of several congeners that were not detected with the LLE method were quantified using the SPE method.

  • We introduce a Heaviside-function formulation of the interaction between incompressible two-phase fluid and a non-deformable solid. Fluid and solid interact in two ways : fluid satises the Dirichlet boundary condition imposed by the velocity field of solid, and solid is accelerated by the surface traction exerted by fluid. The two-way couplings are formulated by the Heaviside function to the interface between solid and fluid. The cumbersome treatment of interface is taken care of by the Heaviside function, and the interaction is discretized in a simple manner. The discretization results in a stable and accurate projection method.

  • The behaviour of alloys in the semi-solid state strongly depends on the imposed stress state and on the morphology of the phase which can vary from dendritic to globular. To optimal net shape forging of semi-solid materials, it is important to investigate for filling phenomena in forging process of arbitrarily shaped dies. To produce a automotive part which has good mechanical property, the filling pattern according to die velocity and solid fraction distribution has to be estimated for arbitrarily shaped dies. Therefore, the estimation of filling characteristic in the forging simulation with arbitrarily shaped dies of semi-solid materials are calculated by finite element method with proposed algorithm. The proposed theoretical model and a various boundary conditions for arbitrarily shaped dies is investigated with the coupling calculation between the liquid phase flow and the solid phase deformation. The simulation process with arbitrarily shaped dies is performed to the isothermal conditions of two dimensional problems. To analysis of forging process by using semi-solid materials, a new stress-strain relationship is described, and forging analysis is performed by viscoelastic model for the solid phase and the Darcy's law for the liquid flow. The calculated results for forging force and filling limitations will be compared to experimental data. The filling simulation of simple products performed with the uniform billet temperature(584$^{\circ}C$) from the induction heating by the commercial package MAGMAsoft. The initial step of computation is the touching of semi-solid material with the end of die gate and the initial concept of proposed system just fit with the capability of MAGMAsoft.

Scale-up of Covalently Immobilized Urokinase Column and Repeated Use of It by Solid-Phase Refolding (공유결합으로 고정화된 urokinase 칼럼의 스케일업과 solid-phase refolding에 의한 반복 사용)

  • We scaled up a covalent immobilization system of urokinase to the activated Sepharose and used it repeatedly to cleava a fusion protein consisting of human growth hormone and GST fragment. After scale up from 6 ml to 250 ml. the column system still demonstrated basically the same performance in terms of urokinase immobilization and fusion protein cleavage. When the column was washed with 6 M guanidine HCI after the cleavage reaction, the immobilized urokinase showed no activity probably becasue it was fully unfoled. However, as the denaturant was gradually removed from the column the immobilized urokinase fully regained its bioactivity, which indicated it was properly refolded into is natie conformation as covalently attached to the solid matrix. After 20 cycles of this solid-phase unfolding/refolding. the immobilized urokinase maintained approx. 80% of the initial bioactivity. This method provides and efficient protocol to apply the solid-phase refolding technique to improve the longevity of immobilized enzyme columns.

  • Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was investigated to understand the BTEX extraction behavior of SPME in groundwater. Analytical procedure was conducted In both conventional and headspace mode. And the conventional direct extraction method and the headspace analysis method were compared. Data obtained with direct and headspace SPME were very similar and showed successful results. In headspace analysis, the linearity was better and RSD (relative standard deviation, %) was smaller than direct extraction.

Superconducting Properties of Ge Substitution for the Bi Site in the 2212 Phase of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O Superconductors (Bi계 산화물 초전도체 2212상에 있어서 Bi 자리에 Ge 치환에 따른 초전도 특성)

  • Samples with the nominal composition, Bi2-xGexSr2CaCu2O8+$\delta$ (x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. We have studied the effect of substitution Ge for Bi and investigated the superconducting properties by changing oxygen content with Ge substitution. It was found that temperature difference, ΔK, between TCon and TCzero was considerably smaller in the samples prepared by the intermediate pressing method than that in the samples by the solid-state reaction method. We found the solubility limit of Ge to the 80 K single phase was around x=0.3. Within the solubility limit, lattice constant c decreased with the increase of x. In the region of the 80K single phase, the onset critical temperature TCon increased and excess oxygen content decreased with increase of x.

Determination of agrochemical residues in tobacco using matrix solid-phase dispersion and GC/MS

  • A matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) method was developed for extracting and cleaning-up the selected agrochemicals in tobacco using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with selected ion monitoring (GC/MS-SIM). Different parameters of the method were investigated and optimized, such as the type of solid-phase (alumina, $C_{18}$ and Florisil) and eluent (acetone, acetonitrile, ethylacetate and n-hexane). The best results were obtained using 0.5 g of tobacco sample, 1.0 g of $C_{18}$ as dispersant sorbent, 1.0 g of Florisil as clean-up sorbent and acetonitile saturated with n-hexane as eluting solvent. The method was validated using tobacco samples fortified with agrochemicals at their different concentration levels. This method gave good linearity for the selected agrochemicals of ranging from $0.01{\mu}g/mL$ to $0.1{\mu}g/mL$. Recoveries of the selected agrochemicals in tobacco were more than 80 % and reproducibilities were found to be better than 10 % RSD. Those results suggested that the analytical procedure including MSPD method in combining with GC/MS could be applicable to the rapid determination often the selected agrochemicals in tobacco.
