  • RSA signature algorithms using the Chinese remainder theorem (CRT-RSA) are approximately four-times faster than straightforward implementations of an RSA cryptosystem. However, the CRT-RSA is known to be vulnerable to fault attacks; even one execution of the algorithm is sufficient to reveal the secret keys. Over the past few years, several countermeasures against CRT-RSA fault attacks have tended to involve additional exponentiations or inversions, and in most cases, they are also vulnerable to new variants of fault attacks. In this paper, we review how Shamir's countermeasure can be broken by fault attacks and improve the countermeasure to prevent future fault attacks, with the added benefit of low additional costs. In our experiment, we use the side-channel analysis resistance framework system, a fault injection testing and verification system, which enables us to inject a fault into the right position, even to within $1{\mu}s$. We also explain how to find the exact timing of the target operation using an Atmega128 software board.

  • Correlation power analysis attack takes place at the point of operating a known value and a hidden value from a master key as an input. The hidden value can be found by analyzing a correlation between the result value and the measured power signal during the operation, witch makes it possible to estimate the master key from the hidden value. However, the correlation power analysis attack can be very difficult by changing the conditions that make the power analysis possible, when the known value and the operation is hidden, when it is impossible to estimate the master key from the hidden value, or when the correlation between the result value and the power signal is considerably lowered. Therefore this study proposes a software countermeasure using a secrete intermediate key to witch these conditions are applied.

  • The Side Channel attack methods proposed by P.Kocher are mainly used for cryptanalysis different cipher algorithms even though they are claimed to be strongly secured. Those kinds of attacks depend on environment implementation especially on the hardware implementation of the algorithm to the crypto module. side-channel attacks are a type of attack introduced by P.Kocher and is applicable according to each environment or method that is designed. This kind of attack can analyze and also extract important information by reading the binary code data via measurement of changes in electricity(voltage) consumption, running time, error output and sounds. Thus, in this paper, we discuss recent SPA and DPA attacks as well as recent countermeasure techniques.

  • Due to the advance of ICT, a variety of attacks have been developing and active. Recently, APT attacks using malicious codes have frequently occurred. Advanced Persistent Threat means that a hacker makes different security threats to attack a certain network of a company or an organization. Exploiting malicious codes or weaknesses, the hacker occupies an insider's PC of the company or the organization and accesses a server or a database through the PC to collect secrets or to destroy them. The paper suggested a countermeasure to cope with APT attacks through an APT attack process. It sought a countermeasure to delay the time to attack taken by the hacker and suggested the countermeasure able to detect and remove APT attacks.

  • Until recently, power analysis is one of the most popular research issues among various side channel analyses. Since Differential Power Analysis had been first proposed by Kocher et al., various practical power analyses correspond with software/hardware cryptographic devices have been proposed. In this paper, we analyze vulnerability of countermeasure against power analysis exploiting single power trace of public cryptographic algorithm. In ICICS 2010, Clavier et al. proposed Horizontal Correlation Analysis which can recover secret information from a single exponentiation trace and corresponding countermeasures. "Blind operands in LIM", one of their countermeasures, exploits additive blinding in order to prevent leakage of intermediate value related to secret information. However, this countermeasure has vulnerability of having power leakage that is dependant with the message known by an adversary. In this paper, we analyzed vulnerabilities by three attack scenarios and proved them by practical correlation power analysis experiments.

  • The user authentication on the security applications is one of the most important process. Because character based password is commonly used for user authentication, it is most important to protect the keyboard. Due to the reason, several software solutions for keyboard security have been applied to critical sites. This paper introduces vulnerabilities to the commonly used USB keyboard, implements a sample code using the vulnerabilities and evaluates the possibility for the keyboard data to be stolen in the guarded environment. Through the comparison of the result, a countermeasure to the vulnerabilities is proposed.

  • Information technology (IT) has been applied to various fields, and currently, IT devices and systems are used in very important areas, such as aviation, industry, and national defense. Such devices and systems are subject to various types of malicious attacks, which can be software or hardware based. Compared to software-based attacks, hardware-based attacks are known to be much more difficult to detect. A hardware Trojan horse is a representative example of hardware-based attacks. A hardware Trojan horse attack inserts a circuit into an IC chip. The inserted circuit performs malicious actions, such as causing a system malfunction or leaking important information. This has increased the potential for attack in the current supply chain environment, which is jointly developed by various companies. In this paper, we discuss the future direction of research by introducing attack cases, the characteristics of hardware Trojan horses, and countermeasure trends.

  • As the BadUSB is a vulnerability, in which a hacker tampers the firmware area of a USB flash drive. When the BadUSB device is plugged into the USB port of a host system, a malicious code acts automatically. The host system misunderstands the act of the malicious behavior as an normal behaviour for booting the USB device, so it is hard to detect the malicious code. Also, an antivirus software can't detect the tampered firmware because it inspects not the firmware area but the storage area. Because a lot of computer peripherals (such as USB flash drive, keyboard) are connected to host system with the USB protocols, the vulnerability has a negative ripple effect. However, the countermeasure against the vulnerability is not known now. In this paper, we analyze the tampered area of the firmware when a normal USB device is changed to the BadUSB device and propose the countermeasure to verify the integrity of the area when the USB boots. The proposed method consists of two procedures. The first procedure is to verify the integrity of the area which should be fixed even if the firmware is updated. The verification method use hashes, and the target area includes descriptors. The second procedure is to verify the integrity of the changeable area when the firmware is updated. The verification method use code signing, and the target area includes the function area of the firmware. We also propose the update protocol for the proposed structure and verify it to be true through simulation.

  • The purpose of this article was to propose improvement of countermeasure for missing person cases. While current related other studies examined practice of the countermeasure from inner viewpoint of police authorities itself, this study focused on and analyzed concern or criticism expressed through mass media, outside of the authorities. For this purpose, we analyzed newspaper articles dealing with missing person issued during past 5 years with qualitative data analysis software. The analysis revealed that civil community demands immediacy of coping with missing, phased expertise, systemicity of the countermeasure, improvement of relating policy, and active liaison with community. According to the needs, we proposed advancing risk assessment procedure, enlarging dedicated team for missing case, improving profiling-input system, adding duty for family of missing person, and enhancing of function of control tower.
