Children who have problems in interacting appropriately with others typically have significant social skills deficits. Social skills training has become a primary intervention to improve the appropriate peer relationship or peer acceptance. Many social skills training programs have been designed and implemented on socially isolated children, however the findings from many studies investigating the effect of social skills interventions are various. The first purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of interventions by using quantitative method of meta-analysis. Second, it was to review a various research in detail. Third, it was to provide the basis of planning a social skills training program. For these purposes, findings from 26 studies investigating the effects of social skills interventions for 624 socially isolated children (5-12 years) were analyzed. The result of this study were the following : The pooled overall mean effect size(ES) was 1.11. On average, the pooled mean effect size(ES) according to the different research variables was large, meaning that the social skills intervention had a great effect and was socially important and necessary for socially isolated children. It would be recommended that social skills programs include appropriate target behaviors through multidisciplinary assessment process. This program should mainly focus on the improvement of prosocial behavior skills as well as reducing problem behaviors. For preschool children, over 50 minutes per session, two to three sessions per week, for a total of total over 20 sessions would be ideal. Posttest and follow-up need to perform for generalization and maintenance. Content of the program should be tailored to the developmental level as well as the interest level of the children.
This study examined the effects of social skills training combined with social stories and movement activities designed to change the social behaviors of children with ADHD. Six first-grade children with ADHD participated in the training program, which was composed of 15 sessions over 2 months. Our results indicated that:(1) Children's problematic behaviors were reduced after the training. Anxiety was reduced by a statistically significant level. Depression, delinquency, and hyperactivity were also reduced, but these did not reach a statistically significant level. (2) Children's social skills were improved after the training. Self-assertion and self-control were increased by a statistically significant level. Cooperation was also improved, but it did not reach a statistically significant level. (3) Children's social behaviors became more prosocial after participation in the training program. Children were also found to be able to express positive feeling more often, recognize social rules, and explain their ideas regarding friendship.

Objectives: Children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) often have difficulties in social behavior. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a short-term training program for improving social skills, self-perception and attention deficits. Methods: The subjects were nine children diagnosed with ADHD with(or without) other mental disorders using the Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children(DISC-ADHD) module. Children were given eight sessions of a social skills training program. Parents of children simultaneously participated in their own training which was designed to support their children's generalization of skills. Assessments included child, parent and teacher ratings of social skills, self-perception and attention deficit at baseline and post-treatment. Results: Social skills training led to significant improvements in child-reported measures of self-esteem, in teacher reported measures of social skills, and in parent-reported measures of attention deficit. Conclusion: This study suggests that short-term social skills training programs for children with ADHD may improve their social skills, self-perception and attention deficits.
Purpose: The purpose of this thesis was to examine the effects of social skills training program onto the children with tendency of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Methods: This study used nonequivalent control group pre/post-test quasi-experimental research design. The subjects were 18 children with tendency of attention- deficit hyperactivity in D City. The subjects were divided into two groups, an experimental group of 8 children and a control group of 10. The program consisted of 20 sessions of 60 minutes per session, 5 days a weeks, for 4 weeks. The research tools included Conner's Teacher Rating Scales (CTRS) and Social Skills Rating System (SSRS). The collected data were analyzed using $x^2$ test, Mann-Whitney test on the SPSS 17.0 program. Results: a) the scores for cooperation, self-assertiveness, self-control and empathy increased significantly in the experimental group, compared to the control group. b) the scores for social skills increased significantly in the experimental group, compared to the control group. Conclusion: It appears that the social skills training program is a useful nursing intervention to improve the social skills for children with tendency of attention-deficit hyperactivity.
The purpose of this study was to develop a social skills training program for rejected young children and to investigate the effects of the program. The developed program used several kinds of interaction methods such as instruction, modeling, rehearsal, feedback, and positive reinforcement. The contents of the program are consisted of role-play, art, language activities, and games. The experimental group with a sample of 9 four-year-old children was those children rejected by peers. There were the other 9 children assigned to the control group. The experimental group received the social skills training program for 50-60 minutes per day twice a week during 12 sessions, and the control group received no treatment. And 9 popular children also joined the program from ninth to eleventh sessions. As compared to the control group, children in the experimental group showed a significant increase in peer acceptance and social skills after they participated in the program.
The purpose of this study is to plan and develop contents for training social skills using robots for elementary school students. Seven functions (guiding activity, providing reinforcement, guiding students behavior, team setting, presenting team order, timer setting, and checking scores) were developed by analyzing functions that robots can take charge of in the training contents. A total of 8 sessions of social skills training contents were developed by selecting social skills required for academic achievement and social interaction of elementary school students. The lesson consisted of providing positive and negative examples, modeling, role-playing, providing feedback on performance, and encouraging generalization stages using effective strategies for acquiring social skills. After developing social skills training contents using robots for elementary school students, so-called Friendly Friends (FF), a satisfaction survey was conducted on the field application of contents and participating students and teachers to examine the acceptance pattern. As a result, it was found that the participating students and teachers were satisfied with the contents. Finally, the meaning and the expected effects of the 'FF (Friendly Friends)' contents were discussed, and also, the matters to be considered when developing social skills training contents using robots in the future were suggested.

Medication is widely accepted as an effective method to reduce the problem of attention deficit, hyperactivity, impulsivity, resistance and violence of ADHD children. However, it does not provide us with the solution on the conflicting routinized behavioral patterns to gain a high level of self-control and acceptable behavior. As a way of replacing medication, this study applies the social skills training program for ADHD children and measures the level of improvement of social skills and the change of the behavioral patterns. The experiment is carried out on 16 children ranged from 6 to 13 years of age for 10 weeks. The patients are divided into three groups:a pure ADHD group, an ADHD group with conduct disorder, an ADHD group with mental retardation and other symptoms. The change of symptoms and the change of social skills are measured by the Child Behavior Checklist(CBCL), the ADD-H Comprehensive Teacher’s Rating Scale(ACTeRS) and the Social Skills Rating Scale(SSRS), and finally Mastson Evaluation of Social Skills for Youth(MESSY). Wilcoxon signed ranks test is used to evaluate the effect of the treatment, and Kruskal-Wallis test is also used to measure the change after the treatment in each of the three groups. In the ADHD group with conduct disorder, the examination of the effect of the treatment shows a significant reduction of violence in the area of behavior(p<.05), and a significant difference of activity and social skills in the area of social competent(p<.001). In the ADHD group with mental retardation and other symptoms, a significant rise of social skills is found in the area of social skills evaluation (p<.05). However, there is no significant difference of effect by the treatment among the three groups. In addition, the current examination shows that the social skills training program does not make a statistically significant contribution to the social skills of the ADHD children. On the other hand, the training helps some children, when it is suitable for the characteristics and accompanying symptoms of the children:it reduces the level of violence in the ADHD group with conduct disorder, and it raises the social skills in the ADHD group with mental retardation. In other words, the social skills training program will reduce the conduct disorder and helps peer relation for ADHD children.

Results: The social skills training program increased the prosocial behavior and cohesiveness of the children and adolescents and decreased their alexithymic tendency and degree of anger, but did not significantly change their self-esteem. Conclusion: The social skills training program positively influences the emotional and behavioral levels of children and adolescents. The emotional regulation program based on a social skills training program is expected to have positive results in school-based mental health services. Future investigations are needed to validate the long term effects of this program.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the changes of life skills of elementary school students who practice kumdo. For this, 579 elementary school students were studied, and exploratory factor analysis, reliability test, and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted. After that, we conceptualized the life skills of elementary school students who practice kumdo. Based on these results, one-way MANOVA was conducted to analyze the difference in life skills perceived by elementary school students according to sex and career. The results are as follows. First, the elementary school students' life skill developed through the kumdo training showed four factors: personality, social skills, problem solving skills, and health care. Second, there was no gender difference of life skill according to the kumdo training, and there were differences in social skill and health care depending on the experience of kumdo training. In addition, life skill factors influencing daily life satisfaction of elementary school students practicing kumdo were social skills, problem solving skills, and character.
