  • In this paper, the improved edge extract methods is proposed in order to extract edge. For the correct and fast detect, the binary image using the threshold value is applied for a experiment. For the experimental analysis, we compare the existing edge methods with the improved methods. Hereby, the exist methods are the sobel, robert, and prewitt. and the improved methods use the existing methods which is applied mask variations. The merits of the improved mothods have a result of a little erosion, a apparent edge. Specially, we use the grey image of medical image for the experimental analysis and then apply threshold value for a result image. After that, we acquire a apparent edge. For a quantitative analysis of the each methods, the each images was applied a histogram. As a result, we prove the merit of the improved methods using a analytical graph of the medical images.

  • This paper presents a new parametric log line equation of polar form for Hough transform in log-polar plane, in which it can remove the well-known unboundedness problem of Hough parameters. Bolduc's method is used to generate a log-polar image dividing the fovea and periphery from a Cartesian image. Edges of the fovea and periphery are detected by using the Sobel mask and the proposed space-variant gradient mask, and are combined in the log-polar plane. The sampled points that might constitute a log line are quite sparse in a deep peripheral region due to severe under-sampling, which is an inherent property of LPM. To cope with such under-sampling, we determine the values of cumulative cells in Hough space by using the space-variant weighting. In our experiments, the proposed method demonstrates its validity of detecting not only the lines passing through both the fovea and periphery but also the lines in a deep periphery.

  • A new intra-field deinterlacing algorithm with edge direction vector (EDV) in the image block is introduced. This proposed filter is suitable to the region with high motion or scene change. We first introduce an EDV, which is computed by Sobel mask used edge map, so that filer resolution of the edge direction can be acquired. The proposed EDV oriented deinterlacing system operates by identifying small pixel variations in five orientations, $26.5^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$, and $153.5^{\circ}$. The EDV values work as inputs of Sobel mask and return edge direction degree and confidence parameters. Based on edge direction degree and confidence parameters the missing pixel is computed. The results of computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms a number of intra-field deinterlacing methods in the literature.

  • As the digital image processing technology develops, the edge in the image is widely utilized in various fields such as the object recognition and detection. Most of the current methods to detect the edge use the fixed weighting mask of Sobel or Roberts. Such current methods have an advantage that the implementation is simple but have a disadvantage that the characteristics of the edge detection are more or less insufficient. Thus, an algorithm using the modified morphology is proposed in order to supplement such problems of the current edge detection methods and obtain the excellent edge detection, and also a simulation using this algorithm is conducted to compare with such current methods.

  • The edge is widely utilized as a preconditioning process in order to simplify the images in several fields such as the object recognition and detection. The edge detection methods which are generally known include the methods of Sobel, Roberts and Laplacian. However, such current methods have an advantage that the implementation is simple but bring more less an insufficient result since they use the fixed weighting mask. Therefore, an algorithm using the modified morphology is proposed in order to supplement such problems of the current edge detection methods and obtain the excellent edge detection, and also a simulation using this algorithm is conducted to compare with such current methods.

  • Due to development of visual media in various industrial sectors, the importance of image processing is increasing. Among the various image processing areas, edge detection is utilized widely for various fields such as object recognition, object segmentation, the medical and other industries. Edge includes the critical factors of images like size, direction and location. Then conventional methods such as Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts and Laplacian are proposed to detect edge. However, edge detection property of these methods is declined when they are applied to the image which corrupted by AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise). Therefore, an algorithm using modified weighted filter is proposed in this paper and our method has excellent property on edge detection.

  • The performances of previous edge detection methods such as Sobel, Prewitt, and LoG(Laplacian of Gaussian) are insufficient for images degraded in AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise). Therefore, in this paper, we proposed an edge detection algorithm using a modified coefficient masks with gradient masks and distance weight mask. In order to confirm and verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, we simulated and compared proposed algorithm to conventional methods on various standard images added AWGN with a standard deviation ${\sigma}$=15, 30 and proposed algorithm shows superior edge detection characteristics in processed images.

  • In fingerprint verification and identification, fingerprint and background region should be segmented. For this purpose, most systems obtain variance of brightness of X and Y direction using Sobel mask. To decide given local region is background or not, the variance is compared with a certain threshold. Although this method is simple, most fingerprint image does not separated with two region of fingerprint and background region. In this paper, we presented a new segmentation algorithm based on run-length connectivity analysis. For a given binary image after thresholding, suggested algorithm calculates RL of X and Y direction. Until the given image is segmented to two regions, small run region is successively inverted. Experimental result show that this algorithm effectively separates fingerprint region and background region.

  • In this paper, the hybrid function by local scale control is proposed to detect the optimal edges from blurred images. In the case of image capturing, some blurring is occurred by the characteristics of the illumination and the reflected light. During processing the blurred image, it is difficult to detect perfect edges. This algorithm proposed a new hybrid function which is merged Gaussian function and the second derivative of Gaussian function. And it detects the optimal edges applying directional edge detection by Canny algorithm as the scale factor of $\sigma$ in the given local mask has been changed after convolving the hybrid function for input image. In the result, the performance is confirmed that this algorithm is better than Sobel, Robert and Canny edge detector by analyzing the some test images. And the results is obtained 0.2 ㏈ ~ 14 ㏈ of PSNR than those conventional method.
