This study examined small-size specimen's effectiveness that is used to evaluate floor impact sound performance. Floor impact sound level of small-size specimen is higher than full-size. This is due to excessive impact power of Bang machine. Impact hammer that has small impact power relatively can solve this problem. But, according to the size of specimen, mode shape and frequency that influence to structural borne sound is changed. Slab mode of full-size specimen was changed to frequency design of resilient materials. But in case of small-size specimen, there is no change of vibration mode by resilient materials change, Vibration mode of small-size specimen is the same. Therefore, it is not proper that use small-size specimen in floor impact sound estimation.

In this study, the rotary bending fatigue test was carried out with low carbon steel(SM25C). The specimens were heat-treated in order to change the grain size, and investigated items are fatigue limit, small crack initiation, fatigue crack propagation behavior and possibility of fatigue life prediction according to the different grain size. The summarized result are as follows ; Fatigue limit of the smooth specimen was dependent upon the grain size. The fatigue crack initiation of the small grain size specimen was delayed more than that of the large grain size specimen. And the small cracks of small grain size specimen were distributed in the narrow region of the main crack circumference contrary to the large grain size specimen. The main crack was grown along the grain boundary having co-alliance with small cracks. The experiment material has quantitatively disclosed the possibility of fatigue life prediction because the fatigue crack propagation behavior is dependent upon the grain size.

This study is intended to investigate an influence of the kinds and the maximum size of aggregate on the compressive strength of small size core specimen. According to the results, the compressive strength of standard specimen is large in order of basalt, granite and limestone aggregate, and shows increasing tendency as the maximum size of aggregate grows large. The compressive strength of concrete using basalt aggregate shows similar tendency to granite aggregate, and that of concrete using limestone aggregate decreases slightly, compared with granite aggregate. The reducing ratio of the compressive strength of 25mm core specimen is least when the maximum size of aggregate is 10mm. But the compressive strength of 50 and 100mm core specimen is almost not influenced by the maximum size of aggregate.

In order to measure the sound transmission loss(STL) of a test specimen such as windows, which is smaller than the test opening, a special partition is built into the test opening and the specimen is placed in that partition. This paper discusses how the measured STL is changed by the partition when a small-size window of high sound insulation is mounted. Theoretical and experimental investigations are carried out to quantify the effect of the filler wall. The results reveal that the smaller the window size is, the higher sound insulation performance of the filler wall is required in order to measure the accurate STL of the specimen. It is found that the insufficient sound insulation of the filler wall leads to the lower measured value of the window's STL.

To evaluate the mechanical properties of in-service materials, tensile properties measurement using small-scaled specimen has been carried out. Tensile testing specimens with various dimensions, including standard and sub-size specimen specified in ASTM and ISO and small-scaled specimen, were prepared. Tensile strain in small-scaled specimen was measured using micro-ESPI system set up in this study. This system was used in the specimen with the parallel length of 2 mm and in subsequently measuring the strain under tensile loading. From each type of tensile specimen, stress-strain curves were determined. The dimension effect of the tensile properties was investigated comparing the tensile results obtained from standard specimens and small-scaled specimens. It was shown that the tensile strength for the small-scaled specimen is lower by 15% than those for the standard specimen.

This paper discusses the influencing factors such as coring position, height to diameter ratio of core specimen(h/d) and coring torque on the strength estimation of concrete by small site coring method in order to verify the validities of small size core method. According to results, as for the influence of drilling position, when core specimens are obtained from the place parallel to placing direction, compressive strength of core specimens are higher than those perpendicular to placing direction. This is due to the loss of the area of core specimen perpendicular to plating direction by bleeding. And in case of $\phi$ 24mm core specimen, when vertical drilling against placing direction is taken. compressive strength of core specimen obtained at the bottom of the structure is higher than that at the top of the structure. As for the influence of height to depth ratio, as h/d ratio increases compressive strength shows to be decreased. As for the influences of rotation speed of drilling machine, as its speed goes up, compressive strength decreases, regardless of core diameter.

The residents' demand for the comfortable life is promoting development of wall and window which has high sound insulation performance. To develop wall system, various aspects should be considered on the environment, material, construction and structure. Especially focusing on the acoustical view, the economical solution is one of the most critical point. Recently the interest on the partition wall is being increased, because it is useful for the Rahmen type apartment which is considered as an alternative to reduce floor impact sound. This study examines simplified measurement method of airborne sound insulation applied small size specimen, in order to save money to be used for the standard specimen then to promote the development process. The results showed that the simplified method could be effective for the wall system the sound insulation performance upto Rw 50 dB, and for the judgement of rank order of sound insulation performance of the similar wall type while developing.

2024 Al alloys were severely deformed by equal channel angular pressing(ECAP) to obtain an ultrafine grain structure. The more deformation amount increased, the more grain size decreased. Most of the grain structure were changed from elongated to equiaxed shape with increasing pass number. The morphology of S' phases was also changed from rod-type to spherical type. The grain size of 6 passed specimen was 100 to 200 nm, and the size of S' phases was about 10 nm in the microstructure. XRD measurements have revealed that the texture formed by plastic deformation disappeared in the 6 passed specimen. SP test results described that the start of crack propagation occurred at the transition zone between plastic bending and membrane stretching because of small elongation. The maximum strength of ECA pressed specimen increased 1.9 GPa to 2.9 GPa with increasing pass number.

This paper investigated the drying and autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete(HPC) with mixture adjustment under various specimen size. For fresh concrete properties, HPC with mixture adjustment need a higher dosage of SP agent due to fluidity reduction, and a larger dosage of AE agent due to the reduction of air content. HPC with mixture adjustment exhibited a smaller strength development than control HPC. For drying shrinkage, an increase in specimen size occurred with small expansion during water curing and at air curing, less drying shrinkage was observed. Autogenous shrinkage was not affected by specimen size. Autogenous shrinkage of HPC with mixture adjustment exhibited less than half of control HPC.

The conventional SCC(stress corrosion cracking) test methods have much difficulty in evaluating the SCC behaviors of the localized zone like HAZ, bond line and weld metal because of the specimen size. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to develop the new SCC test method of the welded zone by evaluating the SCC susceptibility on parent metal and various microstructures of the welded zone by SP(small punch) test method using miniaturized small specimen and SSRT(slow strain rate test) method(SP-SSRT). Besides, this study is to verify the efficiency of the SP-SSRT results through AE(acoustic emission) test which is a useful technique to monitor the microfracture processes of the material. From the results of SCC susceptibility, SEM observation and AE test, it can be concluded that the SP-SSRT test using miniaturized small specimen(10mm*10mm*0.5mm) will be a good test method to evaluate the SCC susceptibility on the local zone such as the welded zone.
