  • The circuit effects due to the transformer primary side series equivalent inductance in the Zero Voltage Switching Pulse Width Modulated Half Bridge DC/DC Converter and its impact on the effective duty are analyzed. The steady state equations and the small signal model of the converter are derived incorporating the effects of the complementary control and the utilization of transformer primary side series equivalent inductance. The open plant dynamics are analyzed on the basis of the model derived. The model predictions are confirmed by experimental measurements.

  • In this paper the PC power supply is studied from the point of system stability. The power stage model of a multiple output forward converter with weighted voltage mode control is derived including all the major parasitic components and the small signal model is also derived. Determination of the weighting factors and a design procedure for the loop compensation are presented. Finally the model is verified through the simulation of three output forward converter with SABER.

  • In this paper, a design method of optical FSK transmitter is described using LD-FM circuit model. In the design of optical FSK transmitter, an optimum bias current was chosen using LD-FM circuit model, and an unequalized FM transfer function was determined at this current. The equalizers that can make this transfer function uniform were designed by use of a simple passive network. For the designed optical FSK transmitter, the pulse-transient and small-signal frequency-deviation responses were simulated and discussed.

  • Hidden Markov Model(HMM) has been widely used in speech recognition, however, its use in machine condition monitoring has been very limited despite its good potential. In this paper, HMM is used to recognize rotor fault pattern. First, we set up rotor kit under unbalance and oil whirl conditions. Time signals of two failure conditions were sampled and translated to auto power spectrums. Using filter bank, feature vectors were calculated from these auto power spectrums. Next, continuous HMM and discrete HMM were trained with scaled forward/backward variables and diagonal covariance matrix. Finally, each HMM was applied to all sampled data to prove fault recognition ability. It was found that HMM has good recognition ability despite of small number of training data set in rotor fault pattern recognition.

  • This paper presents a novel approach based on eigenvalue perturbation of augmented matrix(AMEP) to estimate the eigenvalue for variation of controller parameter. AMEP is a useful tool in the analysis and design of large scale power systems containing many different types of exciters, governors and stabilizers. Also, it can be used to find possible sources of instability and to determine the most sensitivity parameters for low frequency oscillation modes. This paper describes the application results of AMEP algorithm with respect to all controller parameter of KEPCO systems. Simulation results for interarea and local mode show that the proposed AMEP algorithm can be used for turning controller parameter, and verifying system data and linear model.

  • This paper presents a new systematic contingency selection and screening method for transient stability. The variation of modal synchronizing torque coefficient(MSTC) is computed using eigen-sensitivity analysis of the electromechanical oscillation modes in small signal stability model and contingencies are ranked in decreasing order of the sensitivities of the MSTC(SMSTC). The relevant clusters are identified using the eigenvector or participating factor. The proposed algorithm is tested on the KEPCO system. Ranking obtained by the SMSTC is consistent with the time simulation results by PSS/E.

  • Due to uncontrollability and non-repeatability of natural irradiation and temperature, the solar array simulator (SAS) is required to conduct the MPPT power processing experiments precisely. However, the nonlinearity of PV curve characteristic is a crucial task for the control of SAS. In the literature, this issue is addressed by many authors and various methods are proposed. However, stability analysis of SAS is not enough to evaluate the control performance. In this paper, the limitations of conventional SAS are studied according to the small signal model. By using the proposed approach, the performance of two different control method for SAS system are analyzed and compared.

  • In this paper, a DC and small-signal AC modeling for the active-clamp, ful1-bridge boost converter is described. Based on the operation principle, the ac part of the converter can be replaced by a dc counterpart. Then, a conceptual equivalent circuit is derived by rearranging the switches. The equivalent circuit for this converter consists of CCM(Continuous conduction mode) boost and DCM(Discontinuous conduction mode) buck converter. The analyses for the equivalent CCM boost and DCM buck converter are done using the model of PWM switch. The theoretical modeling results are confirmed through experiment or SIMPLIS simulation.

  • This paper contains a review of methods to analise static and dynamic properties of trap states in TFTs. The Gap Density of States is extracted from C-V and I-V characteristics. Switch on transients and small signal ac measurements are used in conjunction with simulation and an analytic model to extract traps dynamic parameters.

  • A class D digital audio amplifier with small size, low cost, and high quality is positively necessary in the multimedia era. Since the digital audio amplifier is based on the PWM signal processing, it is improper to analyze the principle of signal generation using linear system theories. In this paper, a class D digital audio amplifier based ADSM (Advanced Delta-Sigma Modulation) is considered. We first model the digital audio amplifier and then explain the operation principle using variable structure control algorithm. Moreover, the ripple signal generated by the hysteresis in the comparator has a significant effect on the system performance. Thus, we present a method to find the magnitude and the frequency of the ripple signal using describing function. Finally, simulations and experiments are provided to show the validity of the proposed methods.
