Objectives: To challenge the problem of slipperiness, various slipmeters have been developed to assess slip hazard. The performance of in-situ slipmeter is, however, still unclear under the various floor conditions. The main objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance of three kinds of slipmeters under real conditions, and to find their dynamic and kinematic characteristics, which were compared with gait test results. Methods: Four common restaurant floor materials were tested under five contaminants. Slipmeters and human gaits were measured by high speed camera and force plate to find and compare their dynamic and kinematic characteristics. Results: The contact pressures and built-up ratio were below those of subjects. The sliding velocity of British Pendulum Tester was above those of subjects, while those of BOT-3000 and English XL were below those of subjects. From the three meters, the English XL showed the highest overall correlation coefficient (r = 0.964) between slip index and $R_a$, while the rest did not show statistical significance with surface roughness parameters ($R_a$, $R_z$). The English XL only showed statistical significance (p < 0.01) between slip index and contaminants. The static coefficient of friction obtained with the BOT-3000 showed good consistency and repeatability (CV < 0.1) as compared to the results for the BPT (CV > 0.2) and English XL (CV < 0.2). Conclusion: It is unclear whether surface roughness can be a reliable and objective indicator of the friction coefficient under real floor conditions, and the viscosity of contaminants can affect the friction coefficient of the same floors. Therefore, to evaluate slipperiness, the performance of the slipmeters needed to improve.

There can be some variation in the load carrying capacity of high-tension bolt friction joints when oversize bolt holes are made on the base plate and the cover plate. This study performed a static tensile test in order to examine the variation of slip load and slip coefficient according to standard bolt hole and oversize bolt hole in high-tension bolt friction joints. According to the results of the static tensile test, the slip coefficient changed to some degree according to oversize bolt holes on the base plate and the cover plate, but it was somewhat unreasonable to find a pattern in the change. Sliding strength showed a difference of up to 26% between the use of standard bolt holes and the use of oversize bolt holes. Because this exceeds the design sliding strength, however, its effect on the serviceability of joints under service load is insignificant. Thus, if the regulation on oversize bolt holes, which may be inevitable in making steel members, is applied flexibly, we may improve efficiency and economy in the design and construction of structures.
The objective of this work is to develop improved slip factor model and correction method to predict flow through impeller in forward-curved centrifugal fan by investigating the validity of various slip factor models. Both steady and unsteady three-dimensional CFD analyses were performed with a commercial code tn validate the slip factor model and the correction method. The results show that the improved slip factor model presented in this paper could provide more accurate predictions for forward-curved centrifugal impeller than the other slip factor models since the presented model takes into account the effect of blade curvature. The comparison with CFD results also shows that the improved slip factor model coupled with the present correction method provides accurate predictions for mass-averaged absolute circumferential velocity at the exit of impeller near and above the flow rate of peaktotal pressure coefficient.

The wheel slip control systems are able to control the braking force more accurately and can be adapted to different vehicles more easily than conventional ABS systems. In order to achieve the superior braking performance through the wheel-slip control, real-time information such as the tire braking force at each wheel is required. In addition, the optimal target slip values need to be determined depending on the braking objectives such as minimum braking distance, stability enhancement, etc. In this paper, a robust wheel slip controller is developed based on the adaptive sliding mode control method and an optimal target slip assignment algorithm. An adaptive law is formulated to estimate the longitudinal braking force in real-time. The wheel slip controller is designed using the Lyapunov stability theory and considering the error bounds in estimating the braking force and the brake disk-pad friction coefficient. The target slip assignment algorithm is developed for the maximum braking force and searches the optimal target slip value based on the estimated braking force. The performance of the proposed wheel-slip control system is verified In simulations and demonstrates the effectiveness of the wheel slip control in various road conditions.
This paper presents the slip behavior of composite fabrics by high speed resin flow in high pressure resin transfer molding. In order to observe the fiber deformation behavior, we constructed the measuring equipment for friction coefficient between fiber and mold, and the monitoring system for deformation of fiber preform in high-pressure RTM process. Coulomb friction coefficient and hydrodynamic friction coefficient between fiber preform and mold were measured and the external force induced by fluid flow causing the deformation of fiber preform was measured. Friction force calculated by friction coefficient and the external force upon fiber deformation were compared, which showed that preform deformation occurred when the external force was bigger than the friction force. The slip behavior of the fiber preform was mainly influenced by the volume fraction of fiber preform and the friction coefficient.

Many particle filled materials like Poweder/Binder mixtures for poweder injection moldings, have complicated rheological behaviors such as an yield stress and slip phenomena. In the present study, numerical simulation programs via a finite element method and a finite difference method were developed for the quasi-three-dimensional flows and the two-dimensional flow models, respectively, with the slip phenomena taken into account in terms of a slip velocity. In order to qualitatively understand the slip effects, typical numerical results such as vector plots, pressure contours in the cross-channel plane, and isovelocity controus for the down-channel direction were discussed with respect to various slip coefficients. Slip velocities along the boudary surfaces were also investigated to find the effects of the slip coefficient and processing conditions on the overall flow behavior. Based on extensive numerical calculations varying the slip coefficients, pressure gradient, aspect ratio, and power law index, the screw characteristics of the extrusion process were studied in particular with comparisons between the slip model and non-slip model.

This paper is the result of investigation of ONO PPSM(ONO PORTABLE SLIP METER) by way of experiment to see the validity as a slip meter, ONO PPSM is a portable slip meter which was made up for the weak points of O-Y PSM(ONO-YOSHIOKA PULL SLIP METER) which takes an accurate measurement of the slip resistance but very heavy and hard to operate. In order to know the stability of the measurement result of ONO PPSM, we measured the slip resistance against 4 different kind of floor materials. As a result of this, we found out that the coefficient of variability of CSR' is less than 0.05. Also, we verified the relation between CSR' and CSR. more specifically by doing the slip test against 7 different kinds of inorganic matter floor materials. We increased the usability of ONO PPSM as a slip meter by suggesting the method of sharing the evaluation index of slip of CSR' and C.S.R.

This paper presents a friction model to realize self-excited vibration of multi-body systems. The friction coefficient is modeled with a spline function in most commercial codes. Even if such a function resolves the problem of discontinuity in friction force, it cannot realize self-excited vibration phenomena. Furthermore, as the relative velocity approaches zero, the friction coefficient approaches zero with the conventional model. So, slip occurs when small force is applied to the system. To avoid these problems a new friction model is proposed in this study. With the new friction model, the self-excited vibration can be realized since the friction coefficient changes with the relative velocity. Furthermore, the slip phenomena could be reduced significantly with the proposed model.

In this study, the possibility of estimation of friction coefficient between tire and road surface using running car data are checked. To get necessary data, such as tire and car velocities and braking force, a test car is driven with certain magnitude of decelerations from pre-set initial velocities to stop . The data are used to estimate friction coefficient with property chosen parameters , e.g,, driving stiffness, pressure distribution functions, etc. Experimental results show that running data car be used with properly chosen parameters to estimate friction coefficient.
