  • In this study, basic skin characteristic data was measured by measuring skin hydration, skin sebum secretion rate, skin melanin index, skin redness index, skin redness image analysis, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and amount of stratum corneum before and after creating a temporary high temperature and low humidity environments targeting Korean women in their 20s to 50s. Stratum corneum by tape stripping was collected at each measurement and skin biomarkers including total protein content, carbonylated protein, neutral lipid, and lipid peroxidation were analyzed. Based on the results, the differences before and after creating a high temperature and low humidity environments were confirmed, the correlation between skin characteristics and skin biomarkers was confirmed, and a new skin index was created based on this. The new skin index can be used in product efficacy evaluation, and the possibility of constructing a new clinical study method and using skin biomarker discovery research through additional research was confirmed.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare permeation characteristics in three skin types using oil-soluble benzoic acid and water-soluble caffeine after method condition optimization based on OECD guideline 428. Methods: A Franz diffusion cell, a reliable alternative method for skin permeation, was used. One-milliliter samples were taken and immediately replaced with fresh solution in the receptor chamber at regular time intervals (1, 2, 4, 7, 10 and 24 hr). The amount of test substances was measured by LC-MS/MS. Results: The permeation rate increased dose-dependently, and the permeation orders were $KeraSkin^{TM}$ > hairless mouse full skin > human cadaver epidermis for skin types, and benzoic acid solution > caffeine solution > benzoic acid cream > caffeine cream for type of test materials. Conclusion: According to the definitions of Marzulli, benzoic acid and caffeine would be classified as 'fast' and 'moderate' compared with the permeation of other chemical species. The setting conditions and permeation characteristics performed in this study are expected to contribute to future permeation studies.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze application methods and structural characteristics of each element of environment-friendly European housing through classification of skin types. The results of the study are following. 1) The skins are classified by three types; single skin with multi layers, double skin with single layer and double skin with multi layers. 2) Most single skins with multi-layer are composed with wooden louvers, sun blinds and insulating windows. There are introduction of atrium and balcony, and variation sectional space composition according to cases. 3) There are two types of double skins; to put cavity between inner skin and outer skin and more extensional spaces such as balconies, corridors and stair halls. Solar walls and mechanical ventilators are often introduced to double skins with multi-layer. 4) The functions of the latest environment-friendly skins are vary from controllers and buffers of indoor environmental elements such as temperature, light, air and sound to equipments to perform essential functions to efficiently operate HVAC systems.

  • Physicochemical characteristics of gelatin extracted from abdominal skin of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), were investigated by comparing its proximate composition, pH, amino acid composition, viscoelastic properties, gel strength and SDS-PAGE patterns, with those of bovine and porcine gelatins. The effects of gelatin concentration, maturation time, heat and freeze treatments on the gel strength of yellowfin tuna abdominal skin gelatin were studied. Amounts of $\alpha$-chains, $\beta$- and $\gamma$-components of yellowfin tuna abdominal skin gelatin were higher than those of the two mammailan gelatins. Yellowfin tuna abdominal skin gelatin had the lowest imino acids (proline and hydroxyproline) content, which was consistent with that of other fishes. However, yellowfin tuna abdominal skin gelatin was highest in glycine, alanine, and lysine. The gel strengths of all gelatins were proportional to the concentration of gelatin, but yellowfin tuna abdominal skin gelatin exhibited the greatest gel strength at each concentration. Yellowfin tuna abdominal skin gelatin required a longer maturation time than the two mammalian gelatins to form a firm gel. Higher heating temperature decreased the gel strength of yellow fin tuna abdominal skin gelatin more than in the two mammalian gelatins. Freezing decreased the gel strength of bovine gelatin only slightly, but longer freezing times resulted in greater reductions in gel strength in the yellowfin tuna abdominal skin and porcine gelatins.

  • Topical preparations such as cream for Acyclovir(ACV), a potent anti-viral agent for the treatment of herpes simplex and herpes zoster, have been marketed in the world since 1993. However, the skin penetration rate of ACV from generic cream formulations sold in Europe has been found to be lower than the original $Zovirax^{\circledR}$ cream. In this study, we formulated ACV into a novel organogel system and compared the skin penetration characteristics with $Zovirax^{\circledR}$ cream. The rate and amount of skin penetration of ACV from the organogels were 6.3-fold greater than those obtained with $Zovirax^{\circledR}$ at an ACV concentration of 5%. The solubilizing effect of oil phase and anti-nucleation effect exhibited by sodium alginate contained in water phase are most likely attributed to enhanced ACV skin penetration property.

  • Hair will be persuit of beautifulness of human being in various permanent wave by many kinds of its drugs. Skin is based upon the hair which enroll the body of high living animals and have multiple membrane structure In this study used rat the effects of commercial permanent wave products to skin which are composed with L- cysteine and bases Results are as follow: the content of penetration 4 hors later with steady state and no significant changeable after 20 hours later. In cysteine groups, lag time and permeability coefficient of healthy skin is 2.22hr and 0.13$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ hr, lag time and permeability coefficient of old skin is 4.01 hr and 0.108 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ hr . In conclusion of study lag time and permeability coefficient in old skin and wounded skin are faster than healthy skin. We notified that fine rinkle and rash of skin were changeable in the case of treating with permanent wave drugs than normal skin.

  • Organic zinc was included in the diet of broiler chickens to examine its effect on the skin characteristics and the expression level of skin proteins. Broiler chicks (Ross$\times$Ross) were fed a corn-wheat-soybean meal basal diet, either as control or containing an additional 80 ppm of zinc proteinate for 4 weeks, and then five broilers from each treatment were selected randomly, slaughtered, and their skin characteristics were examined. There were significant increases (p<0.05) in thigh skin epidermis and dermis thickness in the chicks fed organic zinc. Collagen content in the skin of broilers was also increased by the addition of organic zinc to the diet. 2D-gel electrophoresis patterns indicated that expression levels of the three proteins, glyoxylase 1, hypothetical protein, and dispersin B were affected by zinc feeding. These results suggest that adding organic zinc to the chicken's feed may contribute to decreased skin tearing.

  • In this study, the change of skin condition was analyzed by skin analysis equipment using scrub cosmetics, and the morphological characteristics of microbead were observed by dermascope and scanning electron microscope. In the dermascope observation, during the process of cleansing, the microbeads attached to the skin existed in close contact with each other or dispersed. The skin after scrubbing was clean and smooth and the fine wrinkles between epidermal keratinocytes were reduced. In the scanning electron microscopic observation, the microbead surface did not have severe bending or rough surface. The skin moisture and oil content were higher than the scrub skin before the scrub, and there was no significant difference in the pH.

  • In this paper, we analyzed a medium voltage power line characteristics considering the skin effect for high speed data transmission. Medium power-line characteristics impedance was obtained by the S-parameter method which is used in high frequency band. Power line channel characteristics was measured using it designed coupler, it is a wide band coupler between medium powe-line and measurement system. Attenuation characteristics along the frequency was decreased linearly when skin effect was considered but attenuation characteristics along the frequency was decreased linearly when skin effect was not considered. Impedance was showed lower and lower in proportional to frequency, and variation was decreased in proportional to frequency.
