현대건축에서 구조와 표피 일체화 유형의 건축적 표현특성 - 2000년 이후 건축 사례를 중심으로 - (A Study on Architectural Expressive Characteristic of 'Structure & Skin Integration' Type in Contemporary Architecture - Focused on the Architecture cases after 2000 -)

  • This study tries to categorize trends of "structure and skin integration" and understand the expressive characters of each architectural type. To do so, we listed up 8 architects who are quoted twice or more in related researches, then analyzed their 25 contemporary buildings which integrated structure and skin since 2000. As a result, this study defined four types based on the way of building tectonic system of structure and skin. Key feature of "linear structure-two dimensional skin" type is the communication with the surroundings as a result of .geometric architectural forms, patterned surface and reflection. Characters of "linear-three dimensional" type are organic architectural forms, sculptural skin, and the mysterious space. "Planar-two dimensional" type is a transformational geometry form to express the dramatic images through the skin, therefore gives a sense of rhythm and dynamics to space. "Planar structure-three dimensional" type highlights the texture, and exposes boundary of the inside and outside. In architectures we studied, the structure is the way to make a creative forms and space, and the skin to express various meanings. That said, the "structure and skin integration" is the means of aggressive design expression.

Development and Evaluation of Non-Hydrous Skin Analogue Liquid Crystal using Thermo-Sensitivity Smart Sensor

  • In this study, skin permeation enhancement was confirmed by designing it to have a structure and composition similarity to the intercellular lipids that improve miscibility with skin by cross-linked lipids poloxamer. The cross-linked lipids poloxamer was synthesized and analyzed by 1H NMR that structure dose had conjugated pluronic with ceramide3. Active component is released by modification of liquid crystal structure because PPO part, large-scale molecule block of pluronic, has hydrophobic nature at skin temperature of $35^{\circ}C$. Conjugated pluronic with ceramide3 was synthesized using Pluronic F127 and p-NPC (4-nitrophenyl chloroformate) at room temperature yielded 89%. Pluronic(Ceramide 3-conjugated Pluronic) was synthesized by reaction of p-NP-Pluronic with Ceramide3 and DMAP. The yield was 51%. This cross-linked lipids poloxamer was blended and dissolved at isotropic state with skin surface lipids, phospholipid, ceramide, cholesterol and anhydrous additive solvent. Next step was preceded by ${\alpha}$-Transition at low temperature for making the structure of Meso-Phase Lamella, and non-hydrous skin analogue liquid crystal using thermo-sensitivity smart sensor, lamellar liquid crystal structure through aging time. For confirmation of conjugation thermo-sensitivity smart sensor and non-hydrous skin analogue liquid crystal, structural observation and stability test were performed using XRD(Xray Diffraction), DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimetry), PM (Polarized Microscope) And C-SEM (Cryo-Scanning Electron Microscope). Thermo-sensitivity observation by Franz cell revealed that synthesized smart sensor shown skin permeation effect over 75% than normal liquid crystal. Furthermore, normal non-hydrous skin analogue liquid crystal that not applied smart sensor shown similar results below $35^{\circ}C$ of skin temperature, but its effects has increased more than 30% above $35^{\circ}C$.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibilities of architectural planning and expression of the relationship between structure and skin in contemporary architecture. For this purpose, we show interior space images -integration of structure and skin architecture- to students and experts of the related majors, and let them mark their feeling on the questionnaire composed spatial expression vocabulary extracted through the literature study on spatial sensibility, and analysis data. As a result, in contemporary architecture where the structure and the skin are integrated, form elements have a stronger influence on formation of space sense than elements of light and size, and aesthetics, characteristic, and temporality are common in the inner space, Three types of four types showed unique characteristics, and it was confirmed that there is a causal relationship between the spatial feeling factor and the spatial feeling. This means that the relationship between the structure and the skin can be considered as a planning factor, and this study is expected to be used as such basic data.

『Prada Aoyama Tokyo』의 외피구축 특성과 구조-외피의 관계 (A Study on the Skin Construction of 『Prada Aoyama Tokyo』 through the Functional Relation of Structure-Skin)

  • 본 논문은 Herzog & de Meuron이 지속적으로 그들의 작업에서 시도하고 있는 외피구축의 다양한 사례들 중 "Prada Aoyama Tokyo"에서 나타난 외피구축 방식 및 특성을 구조와 외피의 관계로부터 이해하고자 하였다. 연구의 결과 "Prada Aoyama Tokyo"에서 외피는 구조와의 관계를 최대로 수용하여 내부공간의 공간감에 영향을 미치는 요소로 작용하였으며, 외피가 단순히 표현을 위한 매체가 아니라 공간의 문제가 되었음을 확인하였다. 특히 이들이 표현하고자 하는 형태원리는 외피나 구조 그 자체라기보다는 오히려 이 두 가지 요소들 사이의 관계맺음을 통해 얻어지는 효과라 할 수 있다.

Liquid Crystal Emulsions Containing High Content Ceramides for Improved Skin Barrier Functions

  • In this work, we fabricated liquid crystal (LC) emulsions with fatty alcohol in order to stabilize high content ceramide in cosmetic formulation. We investigated the role of fatty alcohol and surfactant in the formation of higher order structure. As a result, we found that they play a crucial role to form higher order structure. SAXS study shows that ceramide can be incorporated up to 3% in cosmetic formulation with higher order structure and its stability was maintained up to 12 weeks at room temperature. According to WAXS study, the higher order structure can suppress the re-crystallization of ceramide in cosmetic formulation. Finally, we performed in vivo skin barrier recovery test for the damaged skin. LC emulsions with ceramide and O/W emulsions show significant effect in skin barrier recovery at D 1, D 2 and D 6 compared to the untreated condition. While only LC emulsions show significant skin recovery effect at D 14. We expect that LC emulsions are the promising skin carrier to stabilize ceramide and LC emulsions with ceramide can improve the skin barrier function.

Effects of Material Properties and Fabric Structure Characteristics of Graduated Compression Stockings (GCS) on the Skin Pressure Distributions

  • Graduated compression stockings (GCS) have been widely used for the prophylaxis and treatment of venous diseases. Their gradient pressure function largely related to their fabric structure and material properties. By combing fabric physical testing and wear trials, this study investigated the GCSs fabric structure and material properties at different locations along the stocking hoses, and quantitatively analyzed the effects of fabrics on skin pressure longitudinal and transverse distributions. We concluded that, Structural characteristics and material properties of stocking fabrics were not uniform along the hoses, but a gradual variation from ankle to thigh regions, which significantly influenced the corresponding skin pressure gradient distributions; Tensile (WT, EM) and shearing properties (G) generated most significant differences among ankle, knee and thigh regions along the stocking hose, which significantly influenced the skin pressure lognitudinal gradient distribution. More material indices generating significant gradual changes occurred in the fabric wale direction along stocking hose, meaning that materials properties in wale direction would exert more important impact on the skin pressure gradient performances. And, the greater tensibility and smoother surface of fabric in wale direction would contribute to put stocking on and off, and facilitate wearers' leg extension-flexion movements. The indices of WT and EM of stocking fabrics in series A have strong linear correlations with skin pressure lognitudinal distribution, which largely related to their better performances in gradual changes of material properties. Skin pressure applied by fabric with same material properties produced pronounced differences among four different directions around certain cross-sections of human leg, especially at the ankle region; and, the skin pressure magnitudes at ankle region were more easily influenced by the materials properties, which were considered to be largely related to the anatomic structure of human leg.

현대 공간디자인에 있어서 유리외피의 표현특성에 관한 연구 - 2000년 이후의 사례를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Expressional Characteristic of Glass outer Skin in Contemporary Space Design - Focusing on the case after 2000 -)

  • This study is about the Characteristic of glass outer skin expressions in space designs of contemporary society, due to the rapid development of information and digital technology. These days, the glass outer skin show the various images and space expressions which symbolize the informations and the society. The contemporary space designers focus on the glass as the structure materials, and purposely use the glass to achieve the structure concept which satisfies the needs of contemporary society. Therefore, it is a valuable work to analyze the meaning of glass, which has been used for the structure. Throughout the work which has been experienced by glass outer skin, theoretical studies have been achieved and recently the 14 examples were chosen as the glass structures based on the experimental research and frequency featured in magazines after year 2000, which we have analyzed in detail. Glass outer skin reflect the phrases of time in modern society, and throughout the meaning of it, we could see that the glass outer skin serve the roles in informations, interface, imaginary modernization, and as a landmark position. Therefore, in this study, we can make a definition of glass outer skin expression based on the situations of modem times by analyzing the symbolic meaning of glass outer skin in contemporary space designs.

  • Smart skin, a multi-layer structure of composed of a round shape antenna, was designed and fabricated. Tests and analyses was conducted to study its behavior under compressive loads. It was confirmed that the designed smart skin failed due to premature buckling before compression failure. Numerical prediction of structural behavior of smart skin by MSC.NASTRAN agreed well with experimental data.

FT-IR을 활용한 비 침습적 피부 장벽 지질 패킹 분석과 손상된 장벽의 개선 제형 연구 (Non-invasive Skin Barrier Lipid Packing Analysis Using FT-IR and Study of Cosmetic Formulation for Damaged Barrier)

  • 피부 표피의 장벽 구조는 신체 내부의 수분 손실을 방지하고 외부의 이물질의 침입을 막는데 핵심적인 구조이고 각질세포와 세포간 지질로 구성된다. 이 때, 피부 장벽의 세포간 지질은 orthorhombic 구조로 패킹되어있을 때 가장 강한 구조를 가지고 있다. 그러나 다양한 외부 원인에 의해 손상되어 hexagonal 구조로 변화한다. 이런 물리적인 구조의 변화는 FT-IR을 이용하여 지질의 CH2-CH2 scissoring band의 시그널은 분석하여 비 침습적으로 분석 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 SDS를 Porcine skin에 처리하여 피부 장벽 손상모델을 구축하고 FT-IR signal을 분석하여 패킹구조의 변화 정도를 수치화 하였다. 이후 화장품 제형의 처리에 따라서 손상 모델의 장벽 회복 여부를 판단하였다. 이를 통하여 기존의 피부 장벽의 수분 증발량을 분석하는 간접적인 측정 방식을 보완할 수 있다. 또한, 피부 장벽 구조의 물리적인 변화를 직접적이고 효율적으로 분석하는 방식으로 활용 가능하여 다양한 소재의 기능 규명과 제형의 검증에 사용될 수 있다.

The preparation of skin analogue composition having the liquid crystalline structure and its cosmetic applications

  • Recently, many cosmetic researchers have been focused on the development of high functional cosmetics including anti-wrinkle and whitening. In these studies, they couldn't afford to pay a deep attention to stable encapsulations for unstable materials and efficient drug deliveries for them. Particularly, in order to show a degree of instant effects as cosmetics, they can't also ignore moisturizing effect enough to satisfy customers just after applying and its maintenance by improving the function of skin barrier as well as above two effects. Therefore, skin analogue systems have attracted considerable attention in the view of structural and compositional similarity to intercellular membrane in stratum corneum. And, some models for skin analogue composition were developed to improve the function of skin barrier, stably encapsulate unstable materials such as retinol, vitamin B, C, E, etc., and control their skin penetration in order to show good effects as cosmetics. In this study, we suggest the new skin analogue model having the compositional similarity as well as conventional structural ones. Our skin analogue membrane(SAM) is mainly composed of ceramide/ cholesterol/phosphatidylcholin/fatty acids and its structural defects are compensated by including cholesterol amphiphile and controlling the ratio of ceramide/cholesterol. It was possible to confirm the formation of skin analogue membrane having highly-densed multilamella structure and compare them according to the change of each ratio with a polarized microscope, X-ray diffraction. More detaily, we observed their structures with a electron microscope(TEM). Finally, we dispersed them in excess of continuous water phase, observed the formation of maltese-cross liquid crystalline and measured the efficiency of drug deliveries and moisturizing effects.
