An Artificial Neural Network Learning Fuzzy Membership Functions for Extracting Color Sketch Features (칼라스케치 특징점 추출을 위한 퍼지 멤버쉽 함수의 신경회로망 학습)

  • This paper describes the technique which utilizes a fuzzy neural network to sketch feature extraction in digital images. We configure an artificial neural network and make it learn fuzzy membership functions to decide a local threshold applying to sketch feature extraction. To do this. we put the learning data which is membership functions generated based on optimal feature map of a few standard images into the artificial neural network. The proposed technique extracts sketch features in an images very effectively and rapidly because the input fuzzy variable have some desirable characteristics for feature extraction such as dependency of local intensity and excellent performance and the proposed fuzzy neural network is learned from their membership functions, We show that the fuzzy neural network has a good performance in extracting sketch features without human intervention.

  • With the rapidly Slowing information, the research on the effcient information retrieval is increasing. Most of the retrieval systems for domestic cultural assets on the web have adopted a keyword-based search method. Those systems have required users to know the exact information about cultural assets such as name, keyword, etc. However, it is not easy to search the cultural assets with little information or only a remembrance of the shape. In this paper, we propose the retrieval system for cultural assets using both ontology-based and sketch-based search method to solve the Problems of existing systems. Our retrieval system allows users to use both text and sketch for a Query regardless of the type of information about cultural assets and to search in results using the ontology.

  • It is the advantage of robot programming to improve the learners' interest. However, the drawback is existed in the fact that it is not easy to determine whether the problem lies in the hardware factor or programmed logic when an error takes place. This study is an attempt to develop a simulation tool which assists learners to concentrate on the problems not relating to robot assembling but to robot program. It aims to enable beginners make a sketch of their ideas and examine their logic through simulation. Therefore, an Etoys-based robot programming tool is developed to allows user to download and execute the simulated program into an assembled robot. The significance of this study is that easy activity of sketch-based simulation can support learners to understand how the principles of computer science are applied in daily life such as an automatic door system.

  • This study discussed a sketch map and planar figure, classical contents in math curriculum of Korea. Two problems were posed. One was the degree of difficulty and ambiguous intentions of some contents in 5th grade math textbook of 2009 revised curriculum. The other was the status of sketch maps and planar figures in more general view. We looked into elementary mathematics textbooks of former Korean national curriculums and other countries to discuss the problems. The reason why the present Korean textbook has such contents was considered, based on the result of searching former Korean and foreign textbooks. The suggestions in view of expression and building of 3D shapes were also talked.

  • In this paper, we propose a content-based video indexing and retrieval system using MPEG-7 standard to retrieve and manage videos efficiently. The proposed system consists of video indexing module for a video DB and video retrieval module to allow various query methods on a web environment. Video indexing module stores metadata such as manually typed in keywords, automatically recognized character names, and MPEG-7 visual descriptors extracted by indexing module into a DB in a sever side. A user can access to retrieval module by a web and retrieve desired videos through various query methods like keywords, faces, example and sketch. For this retrieval system, we propose ATC(Adaptive Twin Comparison) as a cut detection method for efficient video indexing and QBME(Query By Modified Example) as an improved content-based query method for the convenience of users. Experimental results show that the proposed ATC method detects cuts well and the proposed QBME method provides the conveniences better than existing query methods such as QBE(Query By Example) and QBS(Query By Sketch).

  • This study developed a bus route sketch (BRS) methodology for utilizing bus route design and operation steps in practice and evaluated the feasibility of the method. The BRS methodology consists of three steps: transportation zoning suitable for the provider and users of bus transit service; determining the bus operation route based on established transportation zones and path combination; optimizing the operation route based on the estimation of route alternatives in terms of the multi-performance measures from the standpoints of bus-transit service provider and user. The results of a case study showed that the estimation scores from the perspectives of provider and user were improved significantly from 8.83 and 7.13 to 9.50 and 9.89, respectively. Because the BRS method was designated and developed to be suitable for field application for route planning and operation, the method can be used instantly and directly to estimate and adjust the on-operation bus transit line and route design.

A Study on the Townscape and Image of Kyungju City (경주시 도시경관과 그 이미지에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to interpret the townscape of Kyungju based on the urban images captured by citizens. 58 verval interviews and 50 sketch maps were collected and analized comparing with York which was a similar old city in England. In the verbal questions, elements like tombs, historic remains, families and historic values were frequently mentioned mainly because of their social and historic meaning. But in the sketch maps, physical elements like railroad station, city hall, roundabouts and streets were more frequently appeared probably because of their visibility. As a whole, many tombs which were built long ago in and around the city were commonly mentioned in verbal questions, sketch maps and even in nicknames. As the most dominant factors, it can be compared with York Minster in York. But whereas the shopping streets in York were very attractive to the people, many streets in Kyungju were regarded as dirty and inharmonious elements in townscape. In conclusion, we can call Kyungju 'the city of tombs', but to evoke the sense of place in the city the streets should be improved and activated as the center of city life.

  • This study has designed a walking mechanism that is able to pass by a variety of environments, such as slope, obstructions, special surface in there, the mechanism suggested by Janssen has shown an ideal bridge structure made of 11 joints. V in the study, these programs are use that is m-sketch, m-designer, Janssen mechanism optimization solver for the optimum design of m-sketch, 3D component reflecting the given strip dimension is used because there is a limit in the given. As a result, a stable mechanism for walking could be implemented.

  • In recent years, space planning ability using 3D sketch software is required in the working field of interior design. However, vocational high school do not respond appropriately to changes in the industry, because the class of vocational high school consists of hands-on practical classes and 2D CAD based classes. There is a shortage of 3D sketch software-based instruction programs that can improve students' spatial planning skills. Therefore, this study is to develop instruction program using 3D sketch software for 'Planning for Residential Space' unit of NCS-based on interior design subject and to find out the effect on students' academic achievement by applying to vocational high school class. The 3d sketch software based instructional program developed in this study was developed through four stages of preparation, development, implementation and evaluation according to the PDIE model process. The experimental design model used nonequivalent group posttest-only design in this study. Experiments were conducted on vocational high school students in construction and 9 hours of interior design subjects were applied. After the experiments, students were tested for academic achievement in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor areas. As a result, the instruction program using the 3d sketch program developed in this study was found to be more effective in improving students' academic achievement than existing manual instruction program in both cognitive, affective, and psychomotor areas.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine and better understand student's perception of territory in the deterritorialized world. Students' sketch maps were analyzed to investigate the way of which they recognized the form of national territory, border, geographic location, and neighboring countries. In addition, students' values, attitudes, and affection for their homeland and other countries were observed through the awareness of North Korea, DMZ, and Dok-do island. Scrutinizing students' sketch maps and follow-up interviews provided much more in-depth context for understanding students' narratives about territorial identity than did the analysis of structured surveys since they can freely draw and sketch their cognition. A qualitative data analysis builded a code list with 67 codes generated from 626 quotations. These data were exported to CSV format to elicit and evaluate differential variances of territorial identity along with student's Social Studies score and Grade Point Average for inferential statistics and quantitative data analysis using SPSS. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion, some suggestions to build a model of territorial education and to develop teaching and learning materials in the domain of geography education were provided.
