  • This study was conducted to observe the bone and cartilage formation of mouse fetuses. Mouse litters were sacrificed at pregnant 14th and 18th day and examined for gross skeletal formation using cartilage and bone staining. We identified well developed cartilage formation at the 14th pregnant day in mouse fetus. However mouse fetus at the 14th pregnant day did not show any part of bone formation. At 18th pregnant day, mouse fetus showed well developed body shape and bone and cartilage formation. This results will provide basic information for the evaluation of mouse malfromation and impairment of skeleton formation. Further study will be needed for exact explanation of bone formation from cartilage portion.

  • In this work, we investigate anodization of Pb in ethylene glycol containing small amount of $NH_4F$, demonstrating that ${\beta}-PbF_2$ particles with octahedral morphology can be prepared by adjusting the applied potential and anodizing time. FE-SEM images and XRD measurements of anodic nanostructures as a function of anodizing time clearly show that PbO is first formed on Pb. Subsequently, a local dissolution of PbO leads to formation of skeleton structure of PbO, releasing $Pb^{2+}$ ions in the electrolyte. The lead ions can be precipitated on the walls or intersection of the skeleton walls when the concentration of lead ions is saturated. The method described in this article shows the feasibility of formation of metal fluoride crystal by anodization of metal in a fluoride containing solution.

  • Studies on the molecular construction and structures of $M(NO_3)_2$ (M = Cu(II), Ni(II)) complexes with 1,2-bis(dimethyl-3-pyridylsilyl)ethane (L) have been carried out. Formation of each molecular skeleton appears to be primarily associated with a suitable combination of bidentate N-donors of L and coordinating nature of octahedral metal(II) ions: [$Cu(NO_3)_2(L)_2$] yields a 2-dimensional sheet structure consisting of 44-membered $Cu_4L_4$ skeleton whereas $[Ni(L)_2(H_2O)_2](NO_3)_2$ produces an interpenetrated 3-dimensional structure consisting of 66-membered cyclohexanoid ($M_6L_6$) skeleton. The Cu(II) ion prefers nitrate whereas the Ni(II) ion prefers water molecules as the fifth and the sixth ligands.

  • AC8A matrix composites reinforced with Ni-aluminide were fabricated by squeeze casting process, and the characteristics and nature of the growth of Ni-aluminide phases at the interface between nickel and aluminurn were investigated. In the as-cast composites, the reaction layer between Ni skeleton and aluminum matrix was found to be $NiAl_3$, regardless of the casting temperatures and the kinds of preforms. During high temperature solution treatment the $NiAl_3$ layer grew and formed new $Ni_2Al_3$ layer. Because of presence of the porosity formed by Kirkendall effect at the interface between $NiAl_3$ and aluminum matrix, the tensile strength of composites was inferior to that of AC8A matrix alloy. However, the composites exhibited superior wear resistance due to the formation Ni-aluminide intermetallic phases. Composite A, of which Ni skeleton was fully transformed into Ni-aluminide, shows better wear resistance than that of composite B which still possessed some unreacted Ni skeleton.

  • Density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) theoretical level were performed for two novel explosives (compounds B and C) based on the guanidine-fused bicyclic skeleton $C_4N_6H_8$ (A). The heats of formation (HOFs) were calculated via isodesmic reaction. The detonation properties were evaluated by using the Kamlet-Jacobs equations. The bond dissociation energies (BDEs) for the thermolysis initiation bond were also analyzed to investigate the thermal stability. The results show that the compounds have high positive HOF values (B, 1064.68 $kJ{\cdot}mol^{-1}$; C, 724.02 $kJ{\cdot}mol^{-1}$), high detonation properties (${\rho}$, D and P values of 2.04 $g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$ and 2.21 $g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$, 9.98 $km{\cdot}s^{-1}$ and 10.99 $km{\cdot}s^{-1}$, 46.44 GPa and 59.91 Gpa, respectively) and meet the basic stability requirement. Additionally, feasible synthetic routes of the these high energy density compounds (HEDCs) were also proposed via retrosynthetic analysis.

  • Interpenetrating phase composites of $TiB_2$-Cu system were produced via Spark-Plasma Sintering (SPS) oi nanocomposite powders. Under simultaneous action of pressure, temperature and electric current titanium diboride nanoparticles distributed in copper matrix move, agglomerate and form a fine-grained skeleton. Increasing SPS-temperature and he]ding time promote densification due to local melting of copper matrix When copper melting is avoided the compacts contain 17-20% porosity but titanium diboride skeleton is still formed representing the feature of SPS . High degree of densification and formation of titanium diboride network result in increased hardness of high-temperature SPS-compacts.

  • For dolomite clinkers used as stamp materials the corrosion behavior of those by molten steel was investigated in therange of temperatures between 1550$^{\circ}C$ and 1600$^{\circ}C$ IN hot face the dicalciumferrite of magnesioferrite and dicalciumferrite formed within dolomite clinkers was preferentially dissolved into molten steel and the protective layer of magnesioferrite was formed. For dolomite clinker without Fe2O3 magnesioferrite maintained the skeleton of MgO while the skeleton of CaO disappered bythe formation of dicalciumferrite and it existed as grain boundary phases of magnesioferrite. For dolomite clinker with Fe2O3 was diffused into hot face by the decomposition of dicalciumferrite. With increasing temperature of molten steel the formation depth of dicalciumferrite was increased and the magnesioferrite layer in hot face was decreased for dolomite clinker without Fe2O3 while the layer thickness and grain sizes of magnesioferrite in hot face was decreased for dolomite clinker without Fe2O3 while the layer thickness an grain sizes of magnesioferrite in hot face was increased due to the increment of the decomposition reaction of dicalciumferrite for dolomite clinker with Fe2O3.

  • Two synthetic pathways to substituted hexahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines, which may serve as precursors of aza-alkaloids, were investigated. The first involves the condensation of a bisnucleophilic enediaminoester and a biselectrophile. The second involves attachment to nitrogen of the carbon chain skeleton required to form the six-memberd ring, before formation of the enediaminoester. Several substituted hexahydroimidazo[1,2- a]pyridines were synthesized via these two approaches.

  • This paper presents a strengthening method that involves the use of ferrocement jackets and chamfers to relocate plastic hinge for non-seismically designed reinforced concrete exterior beam-column joints. An experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the proposed strengthening method. Four half-scale beam-column joints, including one control specimen and three strengthened specimens, were prepared and tested under quasi-static cyclic loading. Strengthening schemes include ferrocement jackets with or without skeleton reinforcements and one or two chamfers. Experimental results have indicated that the proposed strengthening method is effective to move plastic hinge from the joint to the beam and enhance seismic performance of beam-column joints. Shear stress and distortion within the joint region are also reduced significantly in strengthened specimens. Skeleton reinforcements in ferrocement provide limited improvement, except on crack control. Specimen strengthened by ferrocement jackets with one chamfer exhibits slight decrease in peak strength and energy dissipation but with increase in ductility as compared with that of two chamfers. Finally, a method for estimating moment capacity at beam-column interface for strengthened specimen is developed. The proposed method gives reasonable prediction and can ensure formation of plastic hinge at predetermined location in the beam.
