A method for the free network adjustment is proposed, based on the application of generalized inverse matrix (g-inverse). If the network adjustment is executed according to the solution with parameters, especially when all coordinates are considered as parameters to keep unity strength, the matrix of normal equation will be singular. This paper discusses the problem of singular matrix and the analysis of accuracy between conventional method and the free network adjustment of trilateration. In case of the adjustment, the RMS errors of adjusted X, Y coordinates are increased to 35.6% in a polygon, central-point figure, and 50.5% in a quadrilateral. In the elements of error ellipse, the RMS errors are decreased by $\pm$24.5% (a) and $\pm$5.0 % (b) in the polygon, $\pm$42.6% (a) and $\pm$49.2% (b) in the quadrilateral. Introduction of free network adjustment, therefore, could be applied to improvement of relative accuracy in the horizontal positioning.

We describe a multigrid wavelet-based natural pixel (WNP) method for image reconstruction in emission computed tomography (ECT). The ECT is used to identify the tagged radioactive material's position in the body for detection of abnormal tissue such as tumor or cancer, as in SPECT and PET. With ECT methodology in parallel beam mode, we formulate a matrix-based reconstruction method for radionuclide sources in the human body. The resulting matrix for a practical problem is very large and nearly singular. To overcome this ill-conditioning, wavelet transform is considered in this study. Wavelets have inherent de-noising and multiscale resolution properties. Therefore, the multigrid wavelet-based natural pixel (WNP) method is very efficient to reconstruct image from projection data that is noisy and incomplete. We test this multigrid wavelet natural pixel (WNP) reconstruction method with the MCNP generated projection data for diagnosis of the simulated cancerous tumor.

Generally, a structural system with large inextensional deformations, or in other words, non-strained deformation is called as 'Unstable Structure', Truss-linked structures, cable structures, membrane structures and movable structures as foldable space structures etc, are included in this category. In this paper, a dynamic analysis method for unstable structural systems is presented. Governing equations for dynamic analysis of unstable truss structures with inextensional displacements are derived. Because of singularity of inverse matrixin in practical analysis of unstable structure, the generalized inverse matrix is Introduced to resolve the singular problem. Also, the RREF technique is used to get the inextensional displacement mode. Two unstable truss structures are analyzed by using presented method. Damping is not considered. From the given results, it is known that proposed method is useful to figure out the dynamic behavior of unstable truss structures.
In this paper, the performance of a new alternative form of three-axis attitude estimation algorithm for a rigid body is evaluated via simulation for the situation where the observed vectors are the estimated baselines of a GPS antenna array. This method is derived based on a simple iterative nonlinear least-squares with four elements of quaternion parameter. The representation of quaternion parameters for three-axis attitude of a rigid body is free from singularity problem. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with other eight existing methods, such as, Transformation Method (TM), Vector Observation Method (VOM), TRIAD algorithm, two versions of QUaternion ESTimator (QUEST), Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) method, Fast Optimal Attitude Matrix (FOAM), Slower Optimal Matrix Algorithm (SOMA).

In this work transfer function synthesis method based on FRF data of each substructure is investigated for a complex structure composed of many substructures. Though the transfer function synthesis method has superiority to analyze the characteristics of interfaces among substructures effectively, many problems arise in the computation process, especially matrix inversion process. Due to computational problems, the error between the data obtained by test and the predictions through computations is inevitable. So in this paper, computational aspects in the transfer function synthesis method are examined through a steering system problem of passenger car. For the FBS method, frequency response functions of 3 substructures are measured experimentally. Effects of several parameters such as matrix inversion method, connection conditions between substructures and off-diagonal terms on system response are studied numerically.

In this paper, an accuracy analysis of parallel method based on non-overlapping domain decomposition method is carried out. In this approach, proposed by Tak et al.(2013), the decomposed subdomains do not overlap each other and the connection between adjacent subdomains is determined via simple connective finite element named interfacial element. This approach has two main advantages. The first is that a direct method such as gauss elimination is available even in a singular problem because the singular stiffness matrix from floating domain can be converted to invertible matrix by assembling the interfacial element. The second is that computational time and storage can be reduced in comparison with the traditional finite element tearing and interconnect(FETI) method. The accuracy of analysis using proposed method, on the other hand, is inclined to decrease at cross points on which more than three subdomains are interconnected. Thus, in this paper, an accuracy analysis for a novel non-overlapping domain decomposition method with a variety of subdomain numbers which are interconnected at cross point is carried out. The cause of accuracy degradation is also analyze and establishment of countermeasure is discussed.
The problem of reconstruction of complete building response from a limited number of response measurements is considered. The response at the intermediate degrees of freedom is reconstructed by using piecewise cubic Hermite polynomial interpolation in time domain. The piecewise cubic Hermite polynomial interpolation is preferred over the spline interpolation due to its trend preserving character. It has been shown that factorization of response data in variable separable form via singular value decomposition can be used to derive the complete set of normal modes of the structural system. The time domain principal components can be used to derive empirical transfer functions from which the natural frequencies of the structural system can be identified by peak-picking technique. A reduced-rank approximation for the system flexibility matrix can be readily constructed from the identified mass-orthonormal mode shapes and natural frequencies.
In this study an output-only system identification technique for civil structures under ambient vibrations is carried out, mainly focused on using the Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI) based algorithms. A newly developed signal processing technique, called Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA), capable to smooth a noisy signal, is adopted for preprocessing the measurement data. An SSA-based SSI algorithm with the aim of finding accurate and true modal parameters is developed through stabilization diagram which is constructed by plotting the identified system poles with increasing the size of data matrix. First, comparative study between different approaches, with and without using SSA to pre-process the data, on determining the model order and selecting the true system poles is examined in this study through numerical simulation. Finally, application of the proposed system identification task to the real large scale structure: Canton Tower, a benchmark problem for structural health monitoring of high-rise slender structures, using SSA-based SSI algorithm is carried out to extract the dynamic characteristics of the tower from output-only measurements.
In this study, we consider a recursive procedure to obtain the stationary probability distribution for analyzing Coxian queueing networks with finite queues. This network deals with multiple class customers. Due to the state space representing multiple class customers, the sub-matrices corresponding to states can not be square matrices and can not be inverted. Therefore, we introduce more complex recursive method to avoid the singular problem. The open queueing network that we study consists of 3 parallel first-level sources linked to a single second level queue. We consider two types of schemes for entering a queue. The first scheme is assumed to be the first-blocked-first-enter (FBFE) and the second scheme is the higher-priority-first-enter (HPFE). Arrival and service times are assume to have a Coxian distribution with two phases. Comparison between the resulting using Gauss-Seidel method and recursive procedure will be shown.
Moving force identification is a very important inverse problem in structural dynamics. Most of the identification methods are eventually converted to a linear algebraic equation set. Different ways to solve the equation set may lead to solutions with completely different levels of accuracy. Based on the measured bending moment responses of the bridge made in laboratory, this paper presented the time domain method (TDM) and frequency-time domain method (FTDM) for identifying the two moving wheel loads of a vehicle moving across a bridge. Directly calculating pseudo-inverse (PI) matrix and using the singular value decomposition (SVD) technique are adopted as means for solving the over-determined system equation in the TDM and FTDM. The effects of bridge and vehicle parameters on the TDM and FTDM are also investigated. Assessment results show that the SVD technique can effectively improve identification accuracy when using the TDM and FTDM, particularly in the case of the FTDM. This improved accuracy makes the TDM and FTDM more feasible and acceptable as methods for moving force identification.
