  • From the point of view of u-healthcare, heart rate is so useful for both illness for taking care of patients and wellness for improving the level of health and wellbeing. It is because heart rate is a significant clinical variable for all kinds of diseases as well as an indicator of the intensity of exercise. Recently, a number of various wearable heart rate monitors have been released to check people's status in the body by monitoring their heart rates. In addition, a number of smartphone applications have been released to conveniently monitor the status of exercise by using heart rate monitors. However, all of these applications are limited to a personal usage. In this paper, we will design a system to simultaneously monitor heart rates coming from multiple users in a real-time, and develop an Android application to apply the system. The application mainly features a simultaneous monitoring of heart rates coming from multiple users, allowing to be effectively applied to fitness centers.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between foreign ownership and firm value. Based on the sample of 3,398 firm-year observations in the period of 2000 to 2007, we find evidence that foreign ownership is positively associated with firm value measured by the market-to-book ratio. In addition, we employ simultaneous equation system where both foreign ownership and firm value are treated as endogenous variables. Simultaneous regression models indicate that the foreign ownership affects firm value, but not vice versa. The positive effects of foreign ownership on firm value result from monitoring and disciplining roles played by foreign investors. Many Korean firms have been run by an owner-manager while monitoring provided by institutional equity holders has been limited. Therefore, Korean firms are expected to suffer from more severe agency costs caused by the conflicts of interest between owner-managers and outside investors. Our empirical results support the notion that foreign investors play an important role in enhancing corporate transparency and improving corporate governance.

  • In an attempt to quantitate and qualitate residual antibiotics and antibacterial agents n meat simultaneously, we studied a gas chromatogrphy-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis. For a simultaneous analysis of macrolide antibiotics such as erythromycin and tylosin in meat, the homogenization with MeOH, defatting with n-hexane, extraction with CHCl3, elution with CHCl3 : MeOH=2:1 from Sep-Pak silica cartridge, acid gydrolysis, back extraction with CHCl3, and quantitation by selected ion monitoring(SIM) mode after trimethylsilyl derivatization were performed. The recoveries of erythromycin and tylosin (CV,%) at 10 ppm fortification level were 90.59(4.89) and 45.91(0.20) , and the detection limits of those were 0.02 and 2.0 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g beef, respectively. From these results, the developed analytical method using GC/MS-SIM mode allows excellent detection and quantitation of residual macrolide antibiotics in meats, using complementary method with bio-assay.

  • This work describes the use of neural networks (NNs) for interpreting voltammetric data, i.e., current-voltage spectra that obtained from the electrochemical reaction of analyte species at a gold electrode. Current-voltage spectra of glucose, fructose and ascorbic acid in mixtures obtained from dual-pulse staircase voltammetry (DPSV) was in the form of the mixed responses contain characteristics of the individual analytes approximately in proportion to their concentration. Extraction of individual analyte concentration from combined data was subsequently achieved using NNs. The combination of DPSV and NNs opens a possibility for simultaneous determination of mixtures of the species for fruit juices quality monitoring.

  • X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) is utilized for determination of polymorphism in crystalline organic materials. Though convenient to use in a laboratory setting, XRD is not easily adapted to in situ monitoring of synthetic chemical production applications. Near-Infrared spectroscopy (NIR) can be adapted to in situ manufacturing schemes by use of a source/detector probe. Conversely, NIR is unable to conclusively define the existence of polymorphism in crystalline materials. By combining the two techniques, a novel simultaneous NIR/XRD instrument has been developed. During material's analysis, results from XRD allow for defining the polymorphic phase present, and NIR data are collected as a fingerprint for each of the observed polymorphs. These NIR fingerprints will allow for the development of a library, which can be referenced during the use of a NIR probe in manufacturing settings.

  • We aim to develop a simple method for simultaneous and quantitative determination of benzoic acid, caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid in seeds of Eriobotrya japonica. In addition, antibacterial effect of these three phenolic acids was examined. A basic method is performed on the high performance liquid chromatography system coupled to an UV-detector (230 nm) and reverse phase C-18 column ($4.6{\times}150mm$, $5{\mu}m$). Each phenolic acid was confirmed via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (MS)/MS system under the multiple-reaction monitoring with negative-ion electrospray ionization (ESI(-)) mode. It is demonstrated that the method was could be applied to samples for an analytical study of the phenolic acids. On the other hand, three phenolic acids in seeds of E. japonica exhibited antibacterial effect against several pathogenic bacteria. Of these, benzoic acid was found to have stronger antibacterial effect.

  • Because people who take more than two drugs have increases, a simple and sensitive method for the simultaneous analysis of amphetamine, methamphetamine and nalbuphine in urine was developed. After alkalinization of the urine samples with 6 N-NaOH, the analytes were extracted using ethyl acetate, derivatized with MSTFA : TSIM : TMCS (= 100 : 2 : 5) prior to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) analysis with selected ion monitoring. • Objective: Biological monitoring of trace elements in human blood samples has become an important indicator of the health environment. The purpose of this study was to detect and evaluate multiple metal items in blood samples based on ICP-MS, to perform comparative evaluation with the existing analysis method, and to develop and verify a new method. Methods: 100 μL of whole blood from 80 healthy subjects was used to analyze ten metals (Sb, tAs, Cd, Pb, Mn, Hg, Mo, Ni, Se, Tl) using ICP-MS. Verification of the analysis method included calculation of linearity, accuracy, precision and detection limits. In addition, a comparative test with the conventional graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy (GF-AAS) method was performed. In the case of Pb, Cd, and Hg in whole blood, cross-analysis between Pb, Cd, and Hg analysis methods was performed to confirm the difference between the existing method and the new method (ICP-MS). Results: The coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.999 or higher in seven items and 0.995 or higher in three items. The Pb result showed that Pearson's correlation coefficient was very high at 0.983, and the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.966. The Cd result showed that Pearson's correlation coefficient was 0.917 between the existing method and the new analysis concentration value. Its intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.960, and there was no significant difference between the two groups. Hg had a low correlation at 0.687, and the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.761, which was lower than that of Pb and Cd. The intra-day and inter-day accuracy of Pd and Cd were satisfactory, but Hg did not meet the criteria for both accuracy and precision when compared with the conventional analysis method. Conclusion: This study can be meaningful in that it proposes a more efficient and feasible analysis method by verifying a blood heavy metal concentration experiment using multiple simultaneous analyses. All samples were processed and analyzed using the new ICP-MS. It was confirmed that the agreement between the two methods was very high, with the agreement between the current and new methods being 0.769 to 0.998. This study proposes an efficient simultaneous methodology capable of analyzing multiple elements with small samples. In the future, studies of various applications and the reliability of ICP-MS analysis methods are required, and research on the verification of accurate, precise, and continuous analysis methods is required.

  • Two widely used approaches for improving the quality of the output of a process are statistical process control (SPC) and automatic process control (APC). In recent hybrid processes that combine aspects of the process and parts industries, process variations due to both the inherent wandering and special causes occur commonly, and thus simultaneous application of APC and SPC schemes is needed to effectively keep such processes close to target. The simultaneous implementation of APC and SPC schemes is called integrated process control (IPC). In the IPC procedure, the output variables are monitored during the process where adjustments are repeatedly done by its controller. For monitoring the APC-controlled process, control charts can be generally applied to the output variable. However, as an alternative, some authors suggested that monitoring the input variable may improve the chance of detection. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of several monitoring statistics, such as the output variable, the input variable, and the difference variable, for efficiently monitoring the APC-controlled process when we assume IMA(1,1) noise model with a minimum mean squared error adjustment policy.
