Water Quality Monitoring for Corrosion Control in Waterworks System (상수도관망 시스템의 부식제어를 위한 수질모니터링)

  • In existing systems, the best method inhibiting corrosion control in water distribution systems is to reduce water corrosiveness. Water corrosion can be decreased by controlling water quality through simple water treatment in treatment plants. On this research, we study the characteristics of tab water qualities in domestic areas, assessment of corrosive water quality and the method of water quality monitoring. This review presents the method of water quality monitoring which is the most applicable. Monitoring for corrosion control in waterworks system is the most proper method; It can prevent serious accidents economically and reduce civil appeals. Surely we should assess corrosive water quality in tab water, and introduce water treatment methods to control corrosive water quality before monitoring for corrosion. According to a lot of researches, it has been proved that simple water treatments can reduce the pipe corrosion. In this review we should indicate that we do not control of the corrosive water quality due to domestic conditions, we should monitor the water quality basically. Therefore, we recognize how the existing water quality can cause problems on pipeline corrosion, how to deal with it. Then it will be possible to apply water quality monitoring for corrosion control in water distribution system. Monitoring for corrosion control can be expressed by LI index, it is already known in literatures. This review presents more simple method than existing methods than existing ones we expect to apply these methods to SCADA in the future.

Effects of Taegeuk Acupuncture on the Autonomic Nervous System by Analyzing Heart Rate Variability in Soyangin (태극침법이 정신적 스트레스를 가한 소양인 여성의 심박변이도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of Taegeuk acupuncture on reducing mental stress by analyzing heart rate variability in Soyangin. Methods : Eight Soyangin-diagnosed women participated in this study. They were randomly divided into group A and group B. Each participant went through 3 sessions every week with 1 week of washout period in between each session. HRV was measured three times at every session; at baseline, after administering mentally stressful circumstances and after applying either one of simple rest, Soyangin Taegeuk acupuncture or Soeumin Taegeuk acupuncture. This study was designed as a crossover clinical trial. After same initial simple resting session for both groups at week 1, acupuncture for group A were executed in the order of Soyangin Taegeuk acupuncture and Soeumin Taegeuk acupuncture at week 2 and 3 respectively, with acupuncture for group B conducted in reverse order. Results : Simple rest and Soeumin Taegeuk acupuncture did not show the significant changes in response to LF(norm) and HF(norm) after stress stimuli. Soyangin Taegeuk acupuncture did, however, significantly decrease LF(norm) and increase HF(norm). Soyangin Taegeuk acupuncture, compared to Soeumin Taegeuk acupuncture, significantly stabilized autonomic nervous system. Conclusions : This study suggests that Soyangin Taegeuk acupuncture might be an effective means of stabilizing mental stress-induced imbalance of autonomic nervous system for Soyangin.

Design of Simple-structured Fuzzy Logic Systems for Quad-Copter (쿼드콥터를 위한 단순구조 퍼지논리제어시스템 설계)

  • Applications of the drone have been enlarged and study on the quad-copter system has been widely progressed. Quad-copter system is raised vertically with four propellers, and it is free to move side to side, and upper and lower. It is also a typical example of non-linear systems. In this paper, we design two-input fuzzy logic control systems in order to control the quad-copter that is complex nonlinear system. And then we analyze their control rule tables and derive some characteristics that they present skew symmetric property and the control actions are enhanced as the distance from the diagonal band. This property enables the design of other control systems. We here design simple-structured fuzzy logic control systems and simulate them. We confirm some effects of the proposed systems and finally discuss about them.

Estimation of Discharge Load due to Combined Sewer Overflows in the Management of Total Maximum Daily Loads (수질오염총량관리 관거월류부하 변화에 따른 배출부하량 산정방법)

  • The quantity of a discharge load can change with changes in rainfall in the area with a combined sewer system (CSS). To evaluate the implementation appropriately in the management of total maximum daily loads (TMDLs), the effects of rainfall changes should be considered in the estimation of the discharge load. The rainfall condition for the estimation of the discharge load in a certain year should be standardized to the same rainfall condition as that of the reference year. However, the calculation process is very complicated with its potential limitations. This study investigated and developed relatively simple methods for estimating the discharge load. Load conversion method (LCM) is designed to convert the discharge load under the current rainfall condition into that of the reference rainfall conditions. Simple rainfall data method (SRDM) is to simplify the estimation process of the discharge load by the simple conversion of rainfall data. These methods were applied to calculate the discharge load and examine the estimation results. From the results of this study the application of these methods may be useful for estimating the discharge load in the TMDL process.

The Comparative Analysis of Exposure Conditions between F/S and C/R System for an Ideal Image in Simple Abdomen (복부 단순촬영의 이상적 영상구현을 위한 F. S system과 C.R system의 촬영조건 비교분석)

  • 1. Purpose : This study is to present effective exposure conditions to acquire the best image of simple abdomen in Film Screen (F.S) system and Computed Radiography (C.R) system. 2. Method : In the F.S system, while an exposure condition was fixed as 70kVp, images of a patients simple abdomen were taken under the different mAs exposure conditions. Among these images, the best one was chosen by radiologists and radiological technologists. In the C.R system, the best image of the same patient was acquired with the same method from the F.S system. Both characteristic curves from F.S system and C.R system were analyzed. 3. Results : In the F.S system, the best exposure condition of simple abdomen was 70kVp and 20mAs. In the CR system, with the fixed condition at 70kVp, the image densities of human organs, such as liver, kidney, spleen, psoas muscle, lumbar spine body and iliac crest, were almost same despite different environments (3.2mAs, 8mAs, 12mAs, 16mAs and 20mAs). However, when the exposure conditions were over or under (below) 12mAs, the images between the abdominal wall and the directly exposed part became blurred because the gap of density was decreased. In the C.R system, while the volume of mAs was decreased, an artifact of quantum mottle was increased. 4. Conclusion : This study shows that the exposure condition in the C.R system can be reduced 40% than in the F.S system. This paper concluded that when the exposure conditions are set in CR environment, after the analysis of equipment character, such as image processing system(EDR : Exposure Data Recognition processing), PACS and so on, the high quality of image with maximum information can be acquired with a minimum exposure dose.

A Simple Algorithm for Factorial Experiments in $\rho^N$

  • Factorial designs with two-level factors represent the smallest factorial experiments. The system of notation and confounding and fractional factorial schemes developed for the $2^N$system are found in standard textbooks of experimental designs. Just as in the $2^N$ system, the general confounding and fractional factorial schemes are possible in $3^N,5^N$, .... , and $\rho^N$ where $\rho$ is a prime number. Hence, we have the $\rho^N$ system. In this article, the author proposes a new algorithm for constructing fractional factorial plans in the $\rho^N$ system.

  • Analog and Digital Speed Control Systems have mutually complementary properties. Analog System has good dynamic characteristics and moderate steady-state accuracy and can be implemented economically with operational a ampliers. Digital System, on the contray, has good static accuracy, but relatively poor dynamic property. So, a hybrid system which uses both digital and analog control can have good static and dynamic characteristics. In this paper, it is shown that a simple digital controller can improve steady-state accuracy of existing analog control system satisfactorily, and some design criteria are presented also.

  • This paper describes a duplexed process control system for a boiler-turbine system of power plant, which is composed of supervisor, controller, and simulater subsystems. Its embeded POL(Problem oriented language) as a structured control language enables this system to do a real-time distributed control and fault diagnosis by simple programming with the actual implementation of advanced control algorithms such as PID autotuning and GPC, etc, the performance of overall system has been greatly enhanced.

  • A method to determine nonlinear system observability will be introduced here. For the determination of the deterministic nonlinear system observability two conditions connectedness and univalence, are developed and used. Depending on how the conditions are satisfied, observability is classified in three categories : observability in the strict sense, wide sense, and the unobservable case. Including simple linear and nonlinear system example an underwater acoustical locaization tracking nonlinear system, the bearing-only tracking example is analyzed.
