  • In this paper ALPS/ISUM will be used to analyze the ultimate strength of four ships under vertical moment. Two of the ships are commercial vessels and the other two are cruisers. A procedure is also developed to determine the ultimate strength of the four vessels under combined vertical and horizontal moments. A simple analytical expression for an interaction relation under combined moments is proposed based on the results obtained for the four ships and the earlier work.

  • Purpose: This article provides step-stress accelerated degradation test (ADT) plans based on the Wiener process. Method: Step-stress levels and the stress change times are determined based on the D-optimality criteria to develop test plans. Further, a simple grid search method is provided for obtaining the optimal test plan. Results: Based on the solution procedure, ADT plans which include the stress levels and change times are developed for conducting the reliability test. Conclusion: Optimal step-stress ADT plans are provided for the case where the number of measurements is small.

  • This study is regarding the autonomous navigation of the mobile robot which operates through a sensor, the Omnnidirectional Vision System which makes it possible to retrieve the real-time movements of the objects and the walls accessing the robot from all directions and to shorten the processing time. After attempting to extend the field of view by using the reflection system and then learning the point of all directions of 2$\pi$ from the robot at the distance, robot recognizes three-dimensional world through the simple image process, the transform procedure and constant monitoring of the angle and distance from the peripheral obstacles. This study consists of 3 parts: Part 1 regards the process of designing Omnnidirectional Vision System and part 2 the image process, and part 3 estimates the implementation system through the comparative study process and three-dimensional measurements.

  • A novel DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) defense technique, Exaustiveness-Based Detection, is proposed in this work. It dispenses with the network congestion and the unfairness between users of the Defense-by-Offense technique by incorporating a kind of simple Detect-and-Block scheme (user identification), still improving the effectiveness of the defense in comparison to the original Defense-by-Offense technique. It uses SYN cookies to identify users in the granularity of ip address and to prevent ip address spoofing by the attacker. There can be, however, some probability of false negative (denying service to good clients), if the attacker wisely adapt to the new technique by saving some portion of its bandwidth resource and later mimicking good clients. Quantitative analysis the requirement for the good clients to be safe from the false negative is provided and a procedure to design the server capacity is explained.

  • In this paper, it is demonstrated that, with the distribution of lowest order concentrated(discrete) singularities of delta function nature, the solution to the linear free surface problem can be obtained with a remarkable degree of accuracy. The linear boundary value problem is formulated subject to boundary conditions for the determination of strengths of singularities; the simple sources above(not on) the free surface and the vortices on the body surface. Three sample calculation were performed` the flow about a submerged vortex of known strength, the flow past a submerged circular cylinder, and the flow around a hydrofoil section. The convergence of the numerical procedure is achieved with a relatively small number of elements. The final results are compared with those of the published works, and are considered very satisfactory.

  • A facile and efficient synthetic route has been developed for the polyhydroquinoline via four component reactions of aldehydes, dimedone, ethyl acetoacetate and ammonium acetate in the presence of catalytic amount of scolecite in ethanol at 70 ${^{\circ}C}$ through Hantzsch reaction. This method gives remarkable advantages such as simple work-up procedure, environmentally friendly, inexpensive, non-toxic and recyclable catalyst, shorter reaction time along with excellent yields.

  • A highly selective molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for sarcosine, a cancer marker, was prepared and its use as solid-phase extraction (SPE) sorbent material was demonstrated. The MIP was prepared by a very simple procedure using methacrylic acid as functional monomer and a mixture acetonitrile/water (4/1, v/v) as porogen, overcoming in this way the problems usually related to the imprinting of biological polar compounds. The MIP was tested in batch experiments in order to evaluate its binding properties and then used as SPE sorbent for the selective clean-up and pre-concentration of sarcosine. The extraction protocol was successfully applied to the direct extraction of sarcosine from spiked human urine indicating that the MIP allowed sarcosine to be pre-concentrated while simultaneously interfering compounds were removed from the matrix.

  • It has been recognized that damage control must become a more explicit design consideration. In an effort to develop design methods based on performance it is clear that the evaluation of the inelastic response is required. The methods available to the design engineer today are nonlinear time history analyses, or monotonic static nonlinear analyses, or equivalent static analyses with simulated inelastic influences. Some codes proposed the capacity spectrum method based on the nonlinear static(pushover) analysis to determine earthquake-induced demand given the structure pushover curve. This procedure is conceptually simple but iterative and time consuming with some errors. This paper presents a nonlinear direct spectrum method to evaluate seismic Performance of structure, without iterative computations, given the structural initial elastic period and yield strength from the pushover analysis, especially for multi degree of freedom structures. The purpose of this paper is to investigate accuracy and confidence of this method from a point of view of various earthquakes and unloading stiffness degradation parameters.

  • In this paper, forward and reverse analysis is introduced in order to estimate the elastic-plastic properties from a power-law hardening bulk specimen materials with one simple spherical indentation impression test. In order to verify the reliability of the reverse analysis, we have simulated about a large range of materials that essentially cover all engineering materials, using ABAQUS(6.91) program. Then, we could obtained the fitting functions and plastic parameters from the numerical analysis results. Next, through the procedure of reverse analysis we can obtain the yield stress and power-law exponent. Finally, obtain good agreement between the result from reverse analysis and initial input data from experiment.

  • A separation scheme using cation exchange procedure is designed specifically for the rapid determination of thorium in monazite samples. All the coexisting ions in monazite, including rare earth ions, are eluted with 3N hydrochloric acid. The remaining thorium is eluted from the resin column with 5N sulfuric acid prior to spectrophotometric determination with thorin reagent. The radioactive tracers and spectrophotometric methods were used to confirm the quantitative elution of thorium and also the chemical purity of the eluted thorium from the column.
