Outage Analysis of Cooperative Transmission in Two-Dimensional Random Networks over Rayleigh Fading Channels

  • In this paper, we evaluate the outage performance of cooperative transmission in two-dimensional random networks. Firstly, we derive the joint distributions of the source-relay and the relay-destination links. Secondly, the outage probability for the decode-and-forward relaying system is derived when selection combining (SC) is employed at the destination. Finally, we calculate the average outage probability of the system and then attempt to express it by a simple approximate expression. The simulation results are presented to verify the accuracy of the derivations. Similar to deterministic networks, the cooperative transmission in random networks outperforms direct transmission at a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

PCA vs. ICA for Face Recognition

  • The information-theoretic approach to face recognition is based on the compact coding where face images are decomposed into a small set of basis images. Most popular method for the compact coding may be the principal component analysis (PCA) which eigenface methods are based on. PCA based methods exploit only second-order statistical structure of the data, so higher- order statistical dependencies among pixels are not considered. Independent component analysis (ICA) is a signal processing technique whose goal is to express a set of random variables as linear combinations of statistically independent component variables. ICA exploits high-order statistical structure of the data that contains important information. In this paper we employ the ICA for the efficient feature extraction from face images and show that ICA outperforms the PCA in the task of face recognition. Experimental results using a simple nearest classifier and multi layer perceptron (MLP) are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

  • Fluttering ghost which is the most severs picture impairment in mobile TV reception under multipath fading environments can be detected by measuring the dynamic variation of the synchronizing pulse timing. And also, the occurrence-stucture of fluttering ghost are directly correlated with the multipath parameters. This paper describes the quantitative evaluating method of the mobile TV pictures impaired by multipath parameters by means of the spectral analysis of synchronizing timing fluctuation. The ghost-flutter curve derived from the spatial amplitue spectrum of synchronizing pulse timing fluctuation express well the spatial variation characteristic, and it has been found to be the quantitative evaluating measure of picture impairment in mobile reception. A correspondence between the ghost-flutter curve (and/or index) and picture quality opinion test results is established.

  • 한국형 틸팅열차의 시험평가를 실시하기 위한 상시계측시스템은 크게 두 부분으로 이루어져있다. 하드웨어는 센서 계측용 랙, 계측용 콘솔 Desk, 전원공급 랙, 센서부 및 케이블부로 이루어지며, 소프트웨어는 계측프로그램, 후처리 프로그램, 분석 프로그램 등으로 구성되어있다. 이 중에서 차량 네트워크 신호를 입력받기 위한 TMS 신호 검지시스템은 기존에 개발되어 운용중인 타 시스템과 구별되는 틸팅열차 종합계측시스템만의 장점이라고 할 수 있다.

Production of Fear: The Visual Analysis of Local Lockdown Warning Signs

  • During the Covid-19 pandemic's first term of April-June 2020, the general public throughout Indonesia became familiar with the slang term "local lockdown." This term emerged in response to disorderly implementation of the half-hearted government policy called Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar (PSBB). In villages around the country, people started to build portals to restrict "strangers" or "outsiders" from entering their village areas. These portals were also meant to publicly signal the villagers' fear of the spread of the virus. This paper will discuss two things: first, how fear was produced, using frameworks drawn from Giorgio Agamben's notable works State of Exception and Homo Sacer, and how governance reproduces it; and second, how people come to accept the state of emergency and then publicly express their acceptance of the situation. Critical discourse analysis is applied to read government policy and its reception. The research took place at Rempoah, Kedungmalang, and Pabuwaran villages in Banyumas, the southern regency of Central Java, Indonesia. The villagers' responses to the government's policy are visually represented through written warning signs.

Analysis on Pedestrian Crossing Illegal Behavior on Exclusive Median Bus Corridor: A Cace Study of Express Bus Terminal Station (중앙버스전용차로 횡단보도 보행 위반행태 분석: 고속버스터미널역 사례 분석)

  • It has reported that a median bus-stop island on an exclusive median bus corridor has shortened a unit crossing distance, encouraged a pedestrian's illegal jay walking, and thus increased the number of accidents in the area. Therefore, this study plans to analyze the various crossing patterns of pedestrians at exclusive median bus corridors. This study analyzes 30,184 pedestrian crossing data which are collected from the median bus-stops, 'Express Bus Terminal,' and reveals that the rate of spatial jaywalking was 37.8%. This rate is 11.1 times higher than the rate of traffic signal violation. Therefore, this study suggests that more research needs to be done to provide a traffic safety facilities for protecting spatial crossing pedestrians and preventing jaywalking and traffic signal violation.

Factors Influencing Crash Severity by the Types of Bus Transportation Services Using Ordered Probit Models (순서형 프로빗 모형을 이용한 버스 운송사업 유형 별 사고심각도 영향요인 분석)

  • Buses, one of the representative public transportation modes, are divided into a vareity of service types according to the purpose of operation, operating distance, and management agencies. Although bus-involved crashes may cause large amount of damage due to the higher number of passengers boarded on a bus, prior research has little focused on crash severity according to bus service types. This study aims to investigate factors influencing crash severity in bus-involved crashes and to present policy implications to reduce crash severity by bus service type. To do this, bus-involved crash data from the Traffic Accident Analysis System (TAAS) during five-year period are used. Ordered probit models for three types of bus service, i.e., city bus, suburban and express buses, and charter buses, are estimated to analyze the factors of accident severity. The results show that there are significant differences of factors affecting crash severity among the types of bus services while speed and road surface influence all the types of buses. In case of local buses, time of day, roadway alignment, and installation of a traffic signal are found to be statistically significant factors. Seat belt and road class have significant effects on injury severity of the intercity and express buses. Chartered buses have time of day, driving experience, seatbelt, traffic signal, and day of week as the significant factors. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the reduction of the crash severity by each bus service type.

A Method to Express Audio Binary Files by Color QR Codes and Its Application (오디오 바이너리 파일을 컬러 QR코드로 표현하는 방법과 그 응용)

  • This paper proposes a method to express an MP3 audio file by a series of color QR codes which can be printed on the paper. Moreover, the method can compress the data considerably. Firstly, an MP3 file is divided into many small files which have maximum capacity of binary file of a QR code. Secondly, the multiple files are converted to multiple black-and-white QR codes. Lastly, every three QR codes are combined into color QR codes. When combining, each of three black-and-white QR codes are regarded as red, green, blue components respectively. In this method, the areas of a color QR code where two QR codes are overlapped are expressed by the colors Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. And the areas where three components are overlapped are expressed by white color. Contrarily, the areas that no components are overlapped are expressed by white color. Experimentation result shows that an MP3 file with 8.5MB the original MP3 files are compressed with the compression rate around 15.7. This method has the advantage that can be used in the environments that the internet access is impossible.

Improving Reliability of Bus Arrival Time Predictions Considering delay Time at Signalized Intersection (신호교차로 지체시간을 고려한 버스도착시간 예측 신뢰성 향상 연구)

  • This study propose a method to predict the bus arrival time by considering the signal delay time which is an element which can not be considered in the current bus arrival prediction information generation algorithm. In order to consider the signal delay time, travel time is divided into three components: service time, cruising travel time, and signal delay time. Signal delay time was estimated using intersection arrival time and TOD. The results show that most of the errors that occurred in predicting the arrival time are within about 30 seconds. Some of the estimates have large errors due to the nature of this methodology that uses the estimated value of the intersection arrival time rather than the observation value. It is also difficult to predict the arrival time of the express buses using this method. Future studies such as improving this through real-time location information will greatly improve the accuracy of the methodology.

  • This paper presents the implementation and design of the 1T-1R wireless HD video streaming systems over 28 GHz mmWave frequency using 3GPP LTE-TDD standard on NI USRP RIO SDR platform. The baseband of the system uses USRP RIO that are stored in Xilinx Kintex-7 chip to implement LTE-TDD transceiver modem, the signal that are transceived from USRP RIO up or down converts to 28 GHz by using self-designed 28 GHz RF transceiver modules and it is finally communicated HD video data through self-designed $4{\times}8$ sub array antennas. It is that communication method between USRP RIO and Host PC use PCI express ${\times}4$ to minimize delay of data to transmit and receive. The implemented system show high error vector magnitude performance above 25.85 dBc and to transceive HD video in experiment environment anywhere.
