Carcass characteristics of lambs fed spineless cactus as a replacement for sugarcane

  • Objective: Fresh sugarcane has been a new roughage source for ruminant's in semiarid regions, a function of the decline of sugar and alcohol industry in recent years. However, there is little data published regarding lambs fed sugarcane associated with spineless cactus. This study evaluated the effect of sugarcane replacement with spineless cactus (0%, 33%, 66%, and 100%) in the diet of Santa $In\hat{e}s$ lambs on carcass characteristics. Methods: Thirty-six non-castrated Santa Ines lambs at four months of age and an initial body weight of $22{\pm}2.3kg$ were assigned in a randomized block design and slaughtered after 70 days of confinement. The effects of spineless cactus as a replacement for sugarcane in the diet of the lambs on the carcass characteristics, commercial cut weight and yield, leg tissue composition, and carcass measurements were studied. Results: The study revealed quadratic behavior in slaughter body weight, and hot and cold carcass weight, with maximum values of 38.60, 18.60, and 18.11 kg and replacement levels of 40.18%, 44.42%, and 43.14%, respectively. The cold carcass yield presented an increasing linear behavior. The compactness index of carcass and leg presented a quadratic effect, with estimated maximal values of 0.28 and 0.57 kg/cm and replacement levels of 43.37% and 45.5%, respectively. The weights of commercial cuts of leg, loin, shoulder, and breast showed quadratic behavior, with maximum values of 2.79, 0.852, 1.46, and 1.30 kg and replacement levels of 49.5, 45.32, 39.0, and 40.7, respectively. For tissue composition, quadratic behavior was verified for leg weight, subcutaneous fat, and total fat. Conclusion: The replacement of sugarcane by spineless cactus at level 44% is recommended for finishing lambs considering that this level improved most of the carcass characteristics, weights, and yields of commercial cuts and leg tissue composition.

Carcass characteristics and meat quality of purebred Pakchong 5 and crossbred pigs sired by Pakchong 5 or Duroc boar

  • Objective: This study investigated carcass characteristics and meat quality of purebred Pakchong 5, crossbred pigs sired by Pakchong 5, and crossbred pigs sired by Duroc. Methods: Forty-eight pigs (average body weight of 22.25 kg) were composed of three groups as purebred Pakchong 5 (PP), Large $White{\times}Landrace$ pigs sired by Pakchong 5 (LWLRP), and Large $White{\times}Landrace$ pigs sired by Duroc (LWLRD). Each group consisted of eight gilts and eight barrows. At 109-day-raising period, pigs were slaughtered, and carcass characteristics were evaluated. Longissimus thoracis (LT) muscles from left side of carcasses were evaluated for meat quality and chemical composition. Data were analyzed using general linear model procedure, where group, sex, and their interaction were included in the model. Results: The PP had greater carcass, total lean, and ham percentages than crossbred pigs (p<0.05). LWLRP had thicker backfat and more carcass fat percentage than LWLRD (p<0.05). There were no differences (p>0.05) on cutting percentages from tender loin, loin, boston butt, and picnic shoulder among groups. The PP and LWLRP had larger loin eye area (LEA) than LWLRD (p<0.05). Gilts had more loin percentage and lower $L^*$ value than barrows (p<0.05). No meat color parameters ($L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$) were affected by groups (p>0.05). PP and LWLRP had larger muscle fiber diameters than LWLRD (p<0.05). However, water holding capacity, Warner-Bratzler shear force values, and chemical composition of LT were not affected by group or sex (p>0.05). Conclusion: Pakchong 5 purebred has good carcass and lean percentages. Compared to Duroc crossbred pigs, Pakchong 5 crossbreds have similar carcass and lean percentages, larger LEA, and slightly more carcass fat, with comparable meat quality and chemical composition. Pakchong 5 boars are more affordable for very small- to medium-scale pig producers.

교복 설계를 위한 여자 청소년의 체형 변화 연구 (A Study on the Change of Body Composition of Female Adolescents for School Uniform Design)

  • In this study, the 4th (1997) and 6th (2013) direct measurements of Size Korea compared the changing shape of women between the ages of 12 and 18. Comparing the items of height and length, the height and shoulder height were significantly reduced, the waist height was not significantly different, and the height of the upper hip was significantly increased, resulting in a smaller upper torso ratio and a higher lower torso rate. The width and thickness associated with human obesity, the circumference items and obesity levels often increased significantly with the change of the times, indicating that the overall body size was increased and that the chest area was changed to a cylindrical shape with changes in the breast equilibrium. Comparing agespecific measurements with graphs analyzing the trend of change in growth, the results showed that the change in 1997 was minimal since age 14; however, a continuous increase was achieved in 2013 that corresponded to the age at which growth is complete. The results of these studies are expected to be used as basic data to predict pattern design, body implementation, and trends in shape changes for young women.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze, in real time, the glide motion and release motion of domestic athletes and gold and bronze medalists employing the glide technique for the men's shot put at the Daegu World Athletic Championship in 2011. In the glide motion, the Korean athletes had a relatively high body center and shot put heights and lager stretching angles for their hips and knees. In the delivery phase, which shifts to the release phase, the Korean athletes showed slower vertical body center and shot put speeds, and they changed the phase, to the release phase by using a small body angle. In the release phase, the Korean athletes showed differences in their projection speeds and vertical body center speeds. The world-famous players showed high angle speeds, which refer to the composition of the rotation force at the moment of release (body, hip, and shoulder line). In the release phase, the Korean athletes did not have fully stretched hip and knee angles, which might have negatively influenced the vertical speed. Because the Korean athletes showed relatively low projection heights and projection angles. it was found that they need to enhance the muscular power of their, throwing arms and lower limbs.

지상실체사진기를 이용한 구조물의 측정과 해석 (Measurement and Analysis of the Structure by Using the Terrestrial Camera)

  • 본 연구는 지상사진기에 의한 구조물(석탑)측정에 관한 것으로서 석탑중 통일신라의 석탑인 감은사지 삼층석탑, 고선사지 삼층석탑, 불국사 삼층석탑(석가탑) 및 불상인 석굴암 본존상, 광주철조여내좌상을 대상으로 조형비를 분석하여, 조형원리에 접근하는데 의의를 갖고 있다. 등고선도와 실측치를 정밀하게 얻을 수 있었으며, 이를 바탕으로 조형비를 분석한 결과, 3재의 석탑과 2개의 불상에서 공통점을 발견할 수 있었다. 우선 석탑의 경우 옥개석폭들은 8 : 7 : 6의 비예관계로 구성되어 있었으며, 상대갑석을 밑변으로 정삼각형과 이등변 삼각형을 긋고, 그 정점사이의 거리를 반경으로 하여 정삼각형의 정점에서 원을 그리면 삼층 옥신 윗면과 일치하였고, 또 기준면으로부터 $70^{\circ}$의 2등변 삼각형을 그러는 경우 상대갑석의 끝점들을 거의 통과하며, 삼층 옥개석의 낙수면과 일치함을 알 수 있었다. 불상의 경우 양 눈사이의 중점을 중심으로 원이 성립되고, 어깨와 명치를 연장하면 무릎에 접함을 알 수 있었다.

2000년대 디자이너별 재킷 형태분석 (Analysis of Jacket Shapes by Designers in the 2000s)

  • To analyze recent changes in designer-specific garment composition, detail, and design elements of jackets, we classified jackets from the Paris Haute Couture Collection from 2000 S/S to 2019 F/W according to their designers and examined their characteristics. Our analysis of the jackets by Armani, Chanel, Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and Valentino shows that the hour-glass silhouette was most common in Armani, Chanel, Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Valentino jackets; Chanel used more straight silhouettes compared to other designers. Most jackets, regardless of the designer, had midlength waist-to-bottom, tight sleeves fitted to the body, natural shoulder shape, and solid color. Moreover, woven fabric was the most common material. Jackets with no collar were the most common for Armani, tailored collars for Dior and Jean-Paul Gaultier, and standing collars for Chanel and Valentino. For the closure method, Armani used hook-and-eye, Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Valentino used button closures, and Dior used snap closures the most. New design attempts by designers are bringing details and design elements together. In an era characterized by an abundance of designs and frequent replacement of each brand's creative designers, it is important to create and maintain a brand's unique design identity and philosophy that can meet consumers' elevated standards, which tend to be biased towards new and stimulating designs due to the development of the IT industry.

50-69세의 중장년 성인여성을 위한 상반신 체형분석 (Upper Body Type Analysis for Middle-aged Women Aged 50-69 Years)

  • This study aims to provide upper body shape information by analyzing the measurement data of middle-aged women aged 50-69, including baby boomers, whose economic power and activity have improved compared to the previous generations. In order to provide accurate upper body shape information by analyzing the body type using the 8th Size Korea measurement data, body shapes were classified through factor and cluster analysis using 75 direct measurement items. Upper body type was classified according to the factors, and the associated characteristics were analyzed. As a result of the comparative analysis of the upper body measurements from the 4th to the 8th Size Korea measurement, it was found that in the height item, both the waist height and the hip height increased, making the overall height greater and the leg length longer. The body circumference items tended to increase, but were found to decrease significantly in the 8th Size Korea (2021) measurement. Middle-aged women were classified using five factors. Factor 1 was the upper body obesity factor, and Factor 2 was the trunk vertical factor. Factor 3 was the width of the back shoulder, Factor 4 was the vertical factor behind the back, and Factor 5 was the length factor of the front garment composition. Middle-aged women were classified into four body types through cluster analysis. Type 1 is relatively small and skinny, Type 2 has the most obese upper body and developed back shoulders, and Type 3 is skinny and has a long back and short front. In Type 4, the upper body was relatively long and the shoulders were narrow.

여자중학생 배드민턴 하이클리어 동작의 운동학적 분석 (The Kinematics Analysis of the Badminton High Clear Motion in Woman Middle School Student)

  • 이 연구는 배드민턴 경기기술 중 클리어에 대한 연구 대부분 경기분석 및 타법사용에 대한 연구에 국한되어 있어 여자중학생 배드민턴 선수를 대상으로 하이클리어 동작을 운동학적 변인으로 측정 분석하였다. 이 연구의 대상자는 충청북도에 위치한 C여자중학교 배드민턴 선수 4명이었으며, 동작의 분석 범위는 준비자세에서 동작의 시작순간, 라켓이 최대로 백 스윙 된 순간, 라켓과 셔틀콕이 임팩트 되는 순간, 임팩트 이후의 마무리 스윙동작까지로 단계별 동작을 설정하였다. 여자중학생 하이클리어 동작을 운동학적으로 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 피험자 대부분 백 스윙 단계에서 어깨 및 팔꿈치 관절을 충분히 회전하지 못한 것으로 나타났고, 특정 관절 부분에만 좋은 동작을 나타내 관절의 협용동작이 떨어지는 것으로 보였다. 피험자 S1과 S2가 임팩트 단계에서 어깨 및 팔꿈치 관절은 크게 천천히 스윙하다가 오른 손목관절 및 라켓헤드의 속도는 빠르게 나타나 다른 피험자 보다 관절의 협웅동작이 잘 이루어진 것으로 나타났다. 피험자 모두 성장기에 있는 학생으로서 관절의 유연성에 기인하여 오른 어깨각도 변화는 큰 각도를 보였고 각속도는 피험자 S3이 다른 피험자 보다 기술적 차이를 보여 개선될 점으로 나타났다. 피험자 모두 오른 팔꿈치 각도 변화는 비슷한 양상을 보였고 각속도에서 피험자 S2는 백 스윙단계부터 임팩트 시 심한 굴곡의 형태를 보여 힘을 효과적으로 사용하지 못한 것으로 나타났다. 피험자 모두 오른 손목각도의 변화는 백 스윙 직후 큰 각도를 이루지 못하고 임팩트 직후 손목의 빠른 굴곡이 형성되지 못하여 셔틀콕의 속도가 감속될 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 각속도는 피험자 S1과 S4는 임팩트 시 음(-)의 각속도 값을 보여 강한 스냅을 이용하고 빠르게 움직이고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 피험자 모두 임팩트 시 무릎각도의 크기는 큰 각도를 이룬 반면 고관절 각도는 작은 각도를 보여 무릎관절과 고관절과의 합성동작인 강한 허리힘을 이용하지 못한 것으로 나타났다.

한우육 및 돈육의 부위별 지방 함량 및 지방산 조성 비교 (Comparison of Fat Content and Fatty Acid Composition in Different Parts of Korean Beef and Pork)

  • 본 연구에서는 우리나라 주요 식육인 한우육 10부위(안심살, 등심살, 채끝살, 목심살, 앞다리살, 부채살, 우둔살, 차돌박이, 아롱사태, 갈비살)와 돈육 10부위(안심살, 등심살, 목심살, 앞사태살, 항정살, 뒷사태살, 홍두깨살, 삼겹살, 갈매기살, 갈비살)의 지방 및 지방산 함량을 측정하여 부위에 따른 차이를 비교 평가함으로써 각종 부위별 지방 및 지방산 조성에 대한 정보를 제공하고자 하였다. 한우육의 지방 함량은 5.25~35.94%로 우둔살이 가장 낮은 함량을, 차돌박이가 가장 높은 함량을 보였다. 포화지방산인 palmitic acid(C16:0)와 stearic acid(C18:0), 단일불포화지방산인 oleic acid(C18:1, n-9)가 주요 지방산인 것으로 확인되었으며, 특히 oleic acid가 지방산 중 가장 높은 함량을 차지하였다. 가장 유사한 지방 함량을 보인 부위는 등심살과 갈비살이었으나 지방산 함량에는 유의적인 차이를 보였다(P<0.05). 채끝살에는 오메가-3 지방산인 linolenic acid(C18:3, n-3)가 100 g당 38.63 mg이, 갈비살에는 오메가-6 지방산인 linoleic acid(C18:2, n-6)가 100 g당 564.71 mg이 함유되어 있어 부위 중 유의적으로 높았다(P<0.05). 채끝살, 부채살 및 갈비살에는 다른 부위에 검출되지 않은 arachidonic acid(C20:4, n-6)가 존재하였으며, 그 함량은 갈비살(2.50 mg/100 g)> 채끝살(1.33 mg/100 g)> 부채살(1.19 mg/100 g)의 순서로 확인되었다. 우둔살의 트랜스지방산 함량은 다른 부위에 비해 현저히 낮은 것으로 측정되었으며(P<0.05), 총 포화지방산에 대한 총 불포화지방산의 비율은 차돌박이($1.83{\pm}0.02$)가 가장 높고 앞다리살($1.03{\pm}0.00$)이 가장 낮은 것으로 조사되었다. 돈육의 지방 함량은 4.16~18.47%로 삼겹살이 가장 높고 안심살이 가장 낮았으나 안심살, 등심살, 앞사태살, 뒷사태살, 홍두깨살의 지방 함량에는 유의적인 차이가 없었다(P>0.05). 주요 지방산은 palmitic acid와 stearic acid, oleic acid 및 linoleic acid로 그 함량은 oleic acid> palmitic acid> linoleic acid> stearic acid의 순서로 확인되었다. 삼겹살에는 다양한 지방산이 함유되어 있었으나 등심에는 검출되지 않은 지방산이 많았다. 그러나 미엘린의 생합성에 중요한 역할을 하는 nervonic acid(C24:1)는 오직 등심에서만 검출되었다. 삼겹살에는 다른 부위에 검출되지 않은 docosahexaenoic acid(DHA, C22:6, n-3)가 존재하였다. 돈육의 10부위 중 앞사태살과 뒷사태살, 홍두깨살은 지방 함량 및 지방산 조성이 가장 유사하였으며, 같은 앞다리라도 앞사태살과 항정살의 지방산 함량에는 현저한 차이를 보였다(P<0.05). 돈육의 총 트랜스 지방산 함량은 삼겹살(143.58 mg/100 g)> 항정살(127.86 mg/100 g)> 목심살(101.36 mg/100 g)> 갈비살(94.91 mg/100 g)> 갈매기살(86.68 mg/100 g)> 안심살(29.57 mg/100 g)> 뒷사태살(27.97 mg/100 g)> 홍두깨살(27.49 mg/100 g)> 앞사태살(25.98 mg/100 g)> 등심살(15.45 mg/100 g)의 순서로 확인되었으며, 총 포화지방산에 대한 총 불포화지방산의 비율은 뒷사태살이 2.01로 가장 높고 갈매기살이 1.28로 가장 낮았다. 이상의 결과 한우육과 돈육 각 10부위에 대한 지방 및 지방산 함량은 부위에 따라 유의적인 차이를 보이는 것으로 조사되었으며, 이러한 결과는 부위별 지방 및 지방산 함량과 조성의 표준화된 데이터베이스의 구축을 위한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Influence of Quaternary Benzophenantridine and Protopine Alkaloids on Growth Performance, Dietary Energy, Carcass Traits, Visceral Mass, and Rumen Health in Finishing Ewes under Conditions of Severe Temperature-humidity Index

  • Twenty $Pelibuey{\times}Katahdin$ ewes ($35{\pm}2.3kg$) were used to determine the effects of the consumption of standardized plant extract containing a mixture of quaternary benzophenanthridine alkaloids and protopine alkaloids (QBA+PA) on growth performance, dietary energetics, visceral mass, and ruminal epithelial health in heat-stressed ewes fed with a high-energy corn-based diet. The basal diet (13.9% crude protein and 2.09 Mcal of net energy [NE] of maintenance/kg of dry matter) contained 49.7% starch and 15.3% neutral detergent fiber. Source of QBA+PA was Sangrovit RS (SANG) which contains 3 g of quaternary benzophenathridine and protopine alkaloids per kg of product. Treatments consisted of a daily consumption of 0 or 0.5 g SANG/ewe. Ewes were grouped by weight and assigned to 10 pens (5 pens/treatment), with two ewes per pen. The experimental period lasted 70 days. The mean temperature humidity index during the course of this experiment was $81.7{\pm}1.0$ (severe heat stress). There were no treatment effects on water intake. Dry matter intake was not affected (p = 0.70) by treatments, but the group fed SANG had a numerically (11.2%) higher gain in comparison to the control group, SANG improved gain efficiency (8.3%, p = 0.04), dietary NE (5.2%, p<0.01) and the observed-to-expected NE (5.9%, p<0.01). Supplemental SANG did not affect ($p{\geq}0.12$) carcass characteristics, chemical composition of shoulder, and organ weights (g/kg empty body weight) of stomach complex, intestines, and heart/lung. Supplemental SANG decreased liver weight (10.3%, p = 0.02) and increased visceral fat (16.9%, p = 0.02). Rumen epithelium of ewes fed SANG had lower scores for cellular dropsical degeneration (2.08 vs 2.34, p = 0.02), parakeratosis (1.30 vs 1.82, p = 0.03) and neutrophil infiltration (2.08 vs 2.86, p = 0.05) than controls. It is concluded that SANG supplementation helped ameliorate the negative effects of severe heat on growth performance of feedlot ewes fed high-energy corn-based diets. Improvement in energetic efficiency may have been mediated, in part, by anti-inflammatory effects of supplemental SANG and corresponding enhancement of nutrient uptake.
