Did Fluvial Terrace of Mountain Streams in Korea Form in Each Glacial Stage? (우리나라 산지 하천의 하안단구는 매 빙기마다 형성되었는가?)

  • This study summarizes domestic and foreign previous works on fluvial terrace with absolute ages to discuss formative process of climatic terrace in Korea. Different from traditional climatic terrace model, approximately three quarters from foreign works have argued that formation of climatic terrace can be attributed to medium- and short-term climatic change or other environmental factors, rather than long-term climatic change of glacial and interglacial cycles. Based on previous works on fluvial terrace in Korea, it can be suggested that fluvial terrace in Korea formed not due to long-term climatic change of 100,000-year cycles related to glacial and interglacial cycles, but due to medium- and short-term climatic change or climatic event of tens of thousands of years related to intensity change in summer monsoon, one of the important factors affecting precipitation in Korea.

Long-term Evaluation of Occlusal Adjustment in Patients with Temporomandibular Disorders (측두하악장애환자의 교합교정에 관한 장기평가)

  • 18 TMD patients who received occlusal adjustment in PNUH though Jan.1984 to 1985 were followed up for short-term(2-6yrs.) and long-term(1-2yrs.) evaluation. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Pain index showed gradual decrease after occlusal adjustment and significant change on long-term evaluation. 2. Noise index had no significant change throughout the all follow-up evaluation. 3. Opening limitation index showed gradual decrease after occlusal adjustment and significant change on both long-term and short-term evaluation. 4. Maximum comfortable opening exhibited more and more increase and significant change on long-term evaluation.

Improvement of Track Tracking Performance Using Deep Learning-based LSTM Model (딥러닝 기반 LSTM 모형을 이용한 항적 추적성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • This study applies a deep learning-based long short-term memory(LSTM) model to track tracking technology. In the case of existing track tracking technology, the weight of constant velocity, constant acceleration, stiff turn, and circular(3D) flight is automatically changed when tracking track in real time using LMIPDA based on Kalman filter according to flight characteristics of an aircraft such as constant velocity, constant acceleration, stiff turn, and circular(3D) flight. In this process, it is necessary to improve performance of changing flight characteristic weight, because changing flight characteristics such as stiff turn flight during constant velocity flight could incur the loss of track and decreasing of the tracking performance. This study is for improving track tracking performance by predicting the change of flight characteristics in advance and changing flight characteristic weigh rapidly. To get this result, this study makes deep learning-based Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM) model study the plot and target of simulator applied with radar error model, and compares the flight tracking results of using Kalman filter with those of deep learning-based Long Short-Term memory(LSTM) model.

  • The demand for long-term care is continuously on the rise as number of elders among the population increases. Due to the rapid growing demand for long-term care in Korea, there have been discussions for the introduction of new long-term care system into Korean society. The purpose of this study in to analyze changes of elderly care facilities in Japan after the beginning of long-term care system in 2000. The functional and architectural changes of Japanese facilities were researched to be used as references for predicting changes in Korean facilities. In Japan, after the execution of long term care system, the alterative aspect of facilities is divided into some categories; in sum, the change of environment for long term care, the effort to spread specialized facilities in a whole community, and the tendency to complex a variety of function of facilities such as an facility for home care service, and the like.

The Impacts of Climate Variability on Household Consumption: Evidence Based on Village Weather Data in Indonesia

  • This study investigates the impacts of long-term climate variability on household consumption in Indonesia, a country highly vulnerable to climate change. The analysis combines household survey data from nearly 5,998 families with satellite-derived weather data from NASA POWER spanning 30 years. We use the long-term variability in temperature and precipitation as a proxy for climate change. This study examines the impact of climate change which proceeds over the long term, unlike previous studies concerning one-off or short-term climate events. In addition, using satellite data enhances the accuracy of households' exposure to climate variability. The analysis finds that households in a village with higher temperature and precipitation variability significantly consume less food. This implies that households more exposed to climate change are at higher risk of malnutrition in developing countries. This study has a limitation that it cannot rule out the potential endogeneity of choosing a climate-vulnerable residential location due to economic poorness.

Merits and Limitations of Microgenetic Method as a Means of Studying Developmental Change (아동 발달연구에 있어서 미시발생적 방법의 실과 허)

  • This study argues the nature of the microgenetic method in respect to child development research and explores its merits and limitations. The microgenetic method focuses on observations that span the entire period from the beginning of developmental change to the time it reaches a relatively stable state. This produces a high density of observations relative to the rate of change in the phenomenon. In this way, observed behavior may be used in intensive trial-by-trial analysis. The microgenetic method is superior to other methods in the possibilities for observing developmental changes as they occur, examining various aspects of change, detecting variability in behavior, and flexibility in application regardless of theoretical perspectives. Limitations of this method include reliability problems due to repeated observations, artificiality relative to the natural situation, inconsistency of short-and long-term change, and demands on children's motivation for participation in research.

Modification of Creep-Prediction Equation of Concrete utilizing Short-term Creep Test (단기 크리프 시험 결과를 이용한 콘크리트의 크리프 예측시의 수정)

  • Creep of concrete is the most dominating factor affecting time-dependent deformations of concrete structures. Especially, creep deformation for design and construction in prestressed concrete structures should be predicted accurately because of its close relation with the loss in prestree of prestressed concrete structures. Existing creep-prediction models for special applications contain several impractical factors such as the lack ok accuracy, the requirement of long-term test and the lack of versatility for change in material properties, ets., which should be improved. In order to improve those drawbacks, a methodology to modify the creep-prediction equation specified in current Korean concrete structures design standard (KCI-99), which underestimates creep of concrete and does not consider change of condition in mixture design, is proposed. In this study, short-term creep tests were carried out for early-age concrete within 28 days after loading and their test results on influencing factors in the equation are analysed. Then, the prediction equation was modified by using the early-age creep test results. The modified prediction equation was verified by comparing their results with results obtained from long-term creep test.

A Study of Sediment Discharge and Bed Change Characteristics of the Local Rivers in Korea (국내 지방하천의 유사량과 하상변동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to suggest the proper sediment transport equation and short and long-term bed change for planning and implementing the river management in Korea. To analyze total sediment discharge and short and long-term bed change, existing sediment transport equations, HEC-RAS 4.1 and CCHE2D numerical models were applied in urban and mountainous rivers. The results of this study are as followings; Firstly, the modified Einstein equation showed the most appropriate result for the estimation of total sediment discharge in the local rivers. Secondly, The stage-discharge relation curve and the discharge-total sediment discharge relation curve were suggested to examine the characteristics of river bed change. Finally, it is founded that river bed change of mountainous river has occurred greater than that of the urban river, and the river bed of urban river now tends to be stabilized on the whole.

  • Structural change of time series means that the distribution of observations is relatively stable in the period of constituting the entire time series data, but shows a sudden change of the distribution characteristic at a specific time point. Within a non-stationary long-term time series, it is important to determine in a timely manner whether the change in short-term trends is transient or structurally changed. This is because it is necessary to always detect the change of the time series trend and to take appropriate measures to cope with the change. In this paper, we propose a method for decision makers to easily grasp the structural changes of time series by visualizing the test results based on the unit root test. Particularly, it is possible to grasp the short-term structural changes even in the long-term time series through the method of dividing the time series and testing it.

The Effects of Instruction using the e-Learning in ‘Geological’ Unit of Middle School Science on Long and Short Term Retention (중학교 과학 ‘지질’ 영역에서 e-Learning 활용 수업이 장·단기 파지에 미치는 효과)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of a new learning method called, 'e-Learning,' by applying this method on a middle school science curriculum and study the influence it has on the students’ short and long term memory. The study was performed on two classes of sixth grade students at 'K middle school' in Yangsan. By handing out structured study assignment in e-Learning, I was able to observe how it affected the learners’ short and long term retention. The results of the study were as follows: First, classes that underwent studies using e-Learning did not show any influence on short term retention. Second, e-Learning had positive influence on long term retention. Third, learners who experienced e-Learning had positive cognition on e-Learning.
