Technical preparedness in Southeast Asia region for onshore dismantling of offshore structures: Gaps and opportunities

  • An onshore dismantling yard is an important part in the supply chain of the offshore oil and gas decommissioning industry. However, despite having more than 500 offshore structures to be decommissioned in the Southeast Asia region, there are a very limited number of well-equipped dismantling yards to fully execute the onshore dismantling. Recent investigations discovered that shipbuilding and offshore structure fabrication yards are still potential options for upgrades to include dismantling. Despite the huge potential opportunities from upgrading to dismantling, research studies on this area are relatively scarce, and most past studies mainly focused on the North Sea region. To date, the potential opportunities of Southeast Asia and Malaysia yards to develop onshore dismantling capability are still unclear. The aim of this study is to identify the criteria to develop a technical preparedness checklist to evaluate an onshore dismantling yard; consequently, this will assist with assessing and bridging the gaps and identify the opportunity of developing an onshore dismantling yard in Southeast Asia region. Requirements for onshore dismantling and related rules and regulations have been investigated and summarized in the form of checklist. Findings from this study can help local oil and gas operators to pursue more local solutions and resilient supply chain performance.

  • This paper studies the scheduling problem of storing and retrieving assembly blocks in a temporary storage yard. The objective is to minimize the number of relocations of blocks while the constraints for storage and retrieval time windows are satisfied. We present an integer programming model based on multi-commodity network flows, and the three revised models based on the properties of the problem. We show that the revised models are more efficient than the generic model through the numerical experiments.

  • Korean naval architecture company today is making researches in expansion of productivity of their own accord. In result, they have accomplished many technical developments like a ground shipbuilding system. For our company's productivity expansion in our yard's limited condition (the facility, P.E area, stock area), we develop isometric pre-erection method that turn into a possibility to maximize our facility use, minimize our dock period.

  • The line array roll set process, as one of many kinds of incremental forming processes, is a continuous process in which a flat metal plate is formed into a singly or doubly curved plate through successive passes of forming rolls. It was found that the curvature level of the formed plates in the previous study was well over the curvature required in shipyards. This fact shows that the LARS method has considerable potential for shipbuilding applications. In a shipbuilding yard, hull forming is an important fabrication process in which flat plates are deformed into singly or doubly curved plates. The major purpose of the present study is to estimate experimentally the general applicability of the line array roll set process for the manufacture of ship hull plates. In this study, the target shapes are selected through investigation of the shape classification of ship hull plates that comprise a certain vessel. Forming processes for twisted shapes are analyzed with the finite element method (FEM). Finally, the results of experimental work for two types of target shapes are presented.

조선 탑재일정의 부하 평준화를 위한 유전 알고리듬 (A Genetic Algorithm Application for the Load Balancing of Ship Erection Process)

  • In this paper, we develope a genetic algorithm for the erection scheduling in shipbuilding. Erection, the final manufacturing stage of shipbuilding, involves the landing and joining of blocks at drydock. Since several ships are built simultaneously at the same drydock and they compete with the common constrained production resource such as labor, space, and crane, we should consider both ship-specifics and common resource constraints for the desirable erection scheduling. Ship erection should also satisfy the predetermined dock cycle given from higher level production planning. Thus, erection schedule of a ship can be represented as a PERT/CPM project network with its own deadline. Since production resources are shared, the erection scheduling become the so-called multi-project scheduling problem with limited resources, which can not be solved easily due to the large size of project network. We propose a function as a minimization of load index which represented the load deviation over time horizon considering the yard production strategy. For the optical parameter setting, we tried various experiments. We verified that the proposed approach was effective to deal with the erection scheduling problem in shipbuilding.

Development of the Abstract Test Cases of Ship STEP

  • Ship STEP(Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data) which is composed of AP 215 (Ship Arrangement), AP 216(Ship Hull Form), AP 218 (Ship Structure), has been developed more than last 10 years and it is now at the stage just before IS(International Standard). It is expected that ship STEP would be used for the seamless data exchange among various CAD/CAM/CAE systems of shipbuilding process. In this paper the huge and complicated data structure of ship STEP is briefly reviewed at the level of ARM(Application Reference Model) and some abstract test cases which will be included as part of the standards are introduced. Basically ship STEP has common data model to be used without losing compatibility among those three different ship AP's, and it is defined as the modeling framework. Typical cases of data exchange during shipbuilding process, such as hull form data exchange between design office and model basin, midship structure data between shipbuilding yard and classification society are reviewed and STEP physical data are generated using commercial geometric modeling kernel. Test cases of ship arrangement at initial design stage and hydrodynamic data of crude oil carrier are also included.

  • 한국의 조선업은 짧은 기간에도 불구하고 규모나 질적 면에서 놀라운 성장을 이루어냈다. 하지만 최근 7년간의 산업재해 통계를 분석했을 때, 조선업 평균 사고사망만인율이 1.48로 전업종 0.66대비 2배가 넘고, 재해율 또한 0.93%로 전업종 평균 0.57% 대비 높은 것으로 나타나 세계조선 강국이라는 말을 무색하게 하고 있다. 따라서 2017년 유조선 탱크 내부에서 도장 작업 중 발생한 사고에 대한 분석을 통해 한국 조선업의 현재를 진단하고자 하였다. 사고 요인 도출을 위해 ECFC(Effects and causal factors charting)를 이용하였으며, 점화원 및 가연물에 대한 분석을 위해 실험, 측정 및 CFD를 이용한 시뮬레이션을 실시하였다.

조선소 선박 블록 상.하차 판단 시스템 (Loading/Unloading Decision System of Ship Block in the Shipyard)

  • 조선소에서 트랜스포터와 블록의 정확한 위치를 파악하는 일은 선박건조 생산 능력을 증가시키는 요소이지만, 현재는 관리자 및 숙련공의 판단에 의해 작업이 진행되고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 조선소의 주요 이동객체인 트랜스포터 및 블록에 대한 실시간 위치 추적 시스템 구축에 대해 소개하고 그 시스템의 주요 기능 가운데 하나인 블록의 상차/하차 상태를 판단하는 방법을 제안하였다. 이 기능을 구현하기 위해 세 가지 센서가 사용되었다. 첫 번째는 대상 블록을 인식하기 위한 RFID 리더이고, 두 번째는 바닥에 매설된 태그를 인식하여 트랜스포터의 위치를 추적하기 위한 RFID 리더이며 또 하나는 물체 인식을 위한 초음파센서이다. 이를 이용하여 조선소 현장에서 두 차례에 걸쳐 시험이 실시되었고 1차 실험에서 나타난 오류를 수정한 후, 최종실험에서는 현장에 적용 가능한 결과를 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다.

GNSS와 IMU센서를 활용한 실시간 트랜스포터 위치추적 시스템 (Real Time Transporter Locating System for Shipyard through GNSS and IMU Sensor)

  • A real time transporter locating system for shipyard has been implemented through the GNSS and IMU sensor. There are a lot of block movements by transporters at the shipyard, which need to be controlled and monitored for conforming to the shipbuilding process. For the precise and safe transporter motion at the yard, a locating system has been developed by using the GNSS and IMU sensors for the transporter. There are several obstacles of the GPS signals for locating the transporter at the yard, such as, buildings and metal structures. To overcome the weakness of the GPS signal transmission, the IMU data have been properly integrated together. The performance of the proposed real time block locating system has been verified through the real experiments with transporters carrying blocks at a shipyard.

  • 조선소에서 건조하고 있는 선박, 해양플랜트에 설치된 발전기의 부하 성능 시험 시 생산되는 막대한 양의 전력은 컨테이너 형태로 제작된 로드뱅크를 통해 전량 열로 낭비된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 선박 건조 시 발전기 부하시험으로 낭비되는 전력량을 대형 조선소를 대상으로 정량적으로 조사하였으며, 소형발전기에서 생산된 전력을 한전계통에 연계하여 회수하는 실험실의 실험결과를 바탕으로 조선소에서 발전기 부하시험 시 생산되는 전력을 한전계통에 연결할 경우 회수 가능한 전력량을 연구 분석하였다.
