In this study, the second-order Nomoto's nonlinear expansion model was implemented as a Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model based on the heading angular velocity to design the automatic steering system of a ship considering nonlinear elements. A Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy PID controller was designed using the applied fuzzy membership functions from the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model. The linear models and fuzzy membership functions of each operating point of a given nonlinear expansion model were simultaneously tuned using a genetic algorithm. It was confirmed that the implemented Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model could accurately describe the given nonlinear expansion model through the Zig-Zag experiment. The optimal parameters of the sub-PID controller for each operating point of the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model were searched using a genetic algorithm. The evaluation function for searching the optimal parameters considered the route extension due to course deviation and the resistance component of the ship by steering. By adding a penalty function to the evaluation function, the performance of the automatic steering system of the ship could be evaluated to track the set course without overshooting when changing the course. It was confirmed that the sub-PID controller for each operating point followed the set course to minimize the evaluation function without overshoot when changing the course. The outputs of the tuned sub-PID controllers were combined in a weighted average method using the membership functions of the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model. The proposed Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy PID controller was applied to the second-order Nomoto's nonlinear expansion model. As a result of examining the transient response characteristics for the set course change, it was confirmed that the set course tracking was satisfactorily performed.

For continuous communication between moving vehicles such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles, an antenna system having at least more than 2-axes is needed. When the antenna is mounted on a moving vehicle such as ground vehicle, ship and so on, a stabilization and tracking system must be equipped to compensate the roll, pitch and yaw motion of the vehicle. The performance of stabilization and tracking system mainly depends on the servo control system that driving the antenna pedestal. Therefore, in this paper, a Fuzzy-PID controller for a stabilization and tracking system of a 2-axes antenna was designed and the performance was verified. To verify the verification of designed servo control system, the performance of the conventional PID controller and that of the Fuzzy-PID controller, designed by the same PID control gains, was compared.

The tracking radar system is installed and operated on the ground, ships, and aircraft, and requires a design to withstand electromagnetic interference with nearby electronic devices. In this case, radiation and immunity standards for cable connection must be satisfied to prevent malfunction of other equipment due to electromagnetic wave interference caused by cables connected to the tracking radar. The radiation standard must also be satisfied so that the electromagnetic wave noise generated and radiated from the tracking radar does not affect the peripheral device, so that the immunity standard for the electromagnetic wave emitted from the peripheral device must be satisfied. In this paper, we propose a design to satisfy MIL-STD-461G including CE, CS, RE, and RS, and explain design satisfaction through tests.

In this paper, slack is computed from a comparison of the cable pay out rate and the ship ground speed in accordance with laying conditions, and the speed controller of the cable engine based on an H(sub)$\infty$ servo control id designed for adjusting the cable engine in order to lay a desired amount of slack. The controller is designed for robust tracking of the cable engine under disturbances. The performance of the designed controller is evaluated by computer simulation, and, consequently, a feasibility study for laying the submarine cable stably is done through analyzing simulation results.

The IoT (Internet of Things) technology is rapidly becoming an important consideration in many engineering fields in the current 4th industrial era. In recent years, the concepts of digital shipbuilding and smart factories have been adopted as trends in shipyards. However, there is active interest in research on implementing autonomous driving in autonomous vehicles and airplanes, which is currently available in commercial form in a limited capacity. The present study is regarding the path-tracking performance of a boat to accomplish an autonomous driving mission using a flight controller (FC) and real-time kinematic (RTK) global positioning system (GPS) based on an open-source Ardupilot; an actual sea test is also performed using this system on a calm lake. The boat's mission is to evaluate the maneuverability of the self-driving process to a specific point and returning to the home position. For a given speed, the difference between the preset mission trajectory and actual operational trajectory was analyzed, and a series of studies were conducted on the applicability of the system to ships. In addition, the movements and maneuverability of the OmniX-type hull with four propellers were investigated, and the driving path-tracking performance was observed to increase by a maximum of 48%.

The ship-borne mobile down range telemetry antenna system having 4.6 m reflector antenna and 3-axis mounting structure at S-band requires the precise pointing accuracy at sea for the launch mission. Using the LEO satellites tracking, a method to determine and verify the antenna pointing and tracking performance, and to find the pointing bias which dominantly contributes to the pointing inaccuracy, is presented. Based upon the tests conducted on the Jeju sea and Pacific sea, the pointing bias is determined and its origin is also identified as the drift of the heading angle of the gyrocompass. The applied systematic correction taking into account the pointing bias, and the achieved improvement of the pointing accuracy are shown. Thanks to the correction, it is presented that this antenna tracked the launcher(KSLV-I) stably within the required pointing accuracy in the following KSLV-I third launch.

The process of berthing/deberthing operations for entering/leaving vessels in Busan northern harbor was analyzed and evaluated by using an integrated VTS(vessel traffic service) system installed in the ship training center of Pukyong National University, Busan, Korea. The integrated VTS system used in this study was consisted of ARPA radar, ECDIS(electronic chart display and information system), backup(recording) system, CCTV(closed-circuit television) camera system, gyro-compass, differential GPS receiver, anemometer, AIS(automatic identification system), VHF(very high frequency) communication system, etc. The network of these systems was designed to communicate with each other automatically and to exchange the critical information about the course, speed, position and intended routes of other traffic vessels in the navigational channel and Busan northern harbor. To evaluate quantitatively the overall dynamic situation such as maneuvering motions for target vessel and its tugboats while in transit to and from the berth structure inside a harbor, all traffic information in Busan northern harbor was automatically acquired, displayed, evaluated and recorded. The results obtained in this study suggest that the real-time tracking information of traffic vessels acquired by using an integrated VTS system can be used as a useful reference data in evaluating and analyzing exactly the dynamic situation such as the collision between ship and berth structure, in the process of berthing/deberthing operations for entering/leaving vessels in the confined waters and harbor.
This paper presents the development of a software for tracking the location of objects in the water and for creating a three-dimensional hull map. The objective of this software, as a software for underwater hull cleaning robot, is to map the location of underwater hull cleaning robot and to locate the position of sensor by identifying the shaded area of acoustic communication. For the software designed for mapping the location of cleaning robot in the water, the height and intensity were applied as variables for underwater ultrasonic communication. The software for creating a three-dimensional hull was developed by OpenGL using scanned lines from a blueprint of a ship. This software can help identifying the location of underwater hull cleaning robot without actual visibility and can be used to maintain a stable communication status by locating the position of sensor by easily spotting the shaded area of acoustic communication caused by the curved area of the bottom of the ship.

In general, a series of ship steering motion is represented by the combination of translational motion and rotational motion of the ship. Especially, special-functioned ships such as large-scale cruises, ships for installing underwater optical cable, and diver ships must be able to reveal only a translational motion without the change of orientation. In this paper, a method to comprise an integrated control system based on the joystick as a command instrument for translational motion control is suggested. In order to realize the translational motion control system, several algorithms are suggested including the velocity command generation, the selection of motional variables, and the generation and tracking of reference inputs for the selected motional variables. A simulation bench is composed to execute simulations for several translational motion commands. At last, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by analyzing the simulation results.

Recently, with the rapid advancement in information and communication technology, indoor location-based services(LBSs) that require precise position tracking have been actively studied with outdoor-LBS using GPS. However, in case of a ship which consists of steel structure, it is difficult to measure a precise localization due to significant ranging error by the diffraction and refraction of radio waves. In order to reduce location measurement errors that occur in these indoor environments, this paper presents distance compensation algorithms that are suitable for a narrow passage such as ship corridors without any additional sensors by using UWB(Ultra-wide-band), which is robust to multi-path and has an error in the range of a few centimeters in free space. These improvement methods are that Pythagorean theory and adjacent node technique are used to solve the distance error due to the node deployment and distance variation analysis technique is applied to reduce the ranging errors which are significantly fluctuated in the corner section. The experimental results show that the number of nodes and the distance error are reduced to 66% and 57.41%, respectively, compared with conventional CSS(Chirp spread spectrum) method.
