Photo-induced chemical change of di-fluoride in the CYTOP doped graphene

  • Many efforts have been devoted on chemical modification of graphene layer to modulate its electrical properties. In the previous report, laser irradiation on the CYTOP (Amorphous Fluoropolymer) covered graphene layer induces chemical modification wherein carbon fluoride is formed on the graphene surface. This results in the insulating I-V characteristics, which have been attracting much research interests on it. However, the direct analytical evidence of the fluoride formation on graphene surface is not yet studied. In this work we investigated what happened on the CYTOP/graphene interface during photon irradiation using spatially resolved photoemission spectroscopy method. It is found that the soft x-ray (614 eV) induces desorption of fluoride atoms from the CYTOP and change di-fluoride form to mono-fluoride. As the photo-induced fluorine desorption is continue strong dipole field generated by initial di-fluoride forms is gradually decreased, resulting in the overall binding energy shift of the C 1s core levels. Both photo-modified CYTOP and CYTOP starts to desorb above $286^{\circ}C$ (~ 0.047 eV), which means that no strong chemical interaction between CYTOP and graphene is established.

선팽창 온도특성에 의한 저밀도 폴리에틸렌의 유리 천이온도에 대한 고찰 (Investigation on glass transition temperature of low density polyethylene by the characteristics of temperature dependent linear expansion)

  • As a preceeding work for the study on dielectric characterstics of a kind of low density polyethylene introduced morphological change by mechanical method, glass transition temperature which is regarded as a macroscopic aspect for relaxation of molecular chain segments has been observed by means of temperature dependent dilatometric measurement. The origina specimen clearly shows two knees which correspond to two peaks (.gamma. and .betha. peak) in the intenal friction measurement, suggesting the existence of separated glass transition temperatures at 150.deg.k and 260.deg.k respectively. On the specimen irradiated to 100 Mrad both glass transition temperatures tend to shift towards high temperature sides because of crosslinking by irradiation. furthemore an evidence can be seen that radiation effect, even in amorphous phase, is also slelctive depending on slight morphological differences. The specimen extended to four times in length shows a peculiar nature such as negative linear thermal expansion coefficient increasing with temperature between 220.deg.k and ambient temperature and that this fact is interpreted by considering that c axis of the lattice aligns along the extended direction by drawing, further c axis inherently possesses the characteristics of negative linear thermal expansion coefficient. For the observations that the relatively small positive linear expansion on the specimen extended to ca. two times as well as the part below 220.deg.k of the specimen extended to four times, it is considered for the reason of the facts that the incompletely oriented region indicated as the middle part of Peterlin's model tends to restore partially to orginal arrangement-a kind of phase transition-as increasing with temperature.

Functional characterization of a minimal sequence essential for the expression of human TLX2 gene

  • TLX2 is an orphan homeodomain transcription factor whose expression is mainly associated with tissues derived from neural crest cells. Recently, we have demonstrated that PHOX2A and PHOX2B are able to enhance the neural cell-type specific expression of human TLX2 by binding distally the 5' -flanking region. In the present work, to deepen into the TLX2 transcription regulation, we have focused on the proximal 5'-flanking region of the gene, mapping the transcription start site and identifying a minimal promoter necessary and sufficient for the basal transcription in cell lines from different origin. Site-directed mutagenesis has allowed to demonstrate that the integrity of this sequence is crucial for gene expression, while electrophoretic mobility shift assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation experiments have revealed that such an activity is dependent on the binding of a PBX factor. Consistent with these findings, such a basal promoter activity has resulted to be enhanced by the previously reported PHOX2-responding sequence.

  • The nature of work which is changing has increased the importance of HRD within organization. Also, these changes are making HRD shift its paradigm : from the segregated, closed, operational & administrative, dependent, utilitarian view to the integrative, open, strategic & facilitative, interdependent, generative view. The shifts of the perspective on HRD cause HRD professionals rethink the purpose and definition of HRD, and the role & competency needed to HRD in 21st century. The findings which are drawn through literature review and researcher’s intuition based on a long field experience are as follows. First, The function of HRD has recently been much more important then that of the past. Second, There is no consensus over the conceptual identity of HRD. Nonetheless, it is apparent that the preferred activities of the HRD function is performance improvement. Third, It is too difficult that we should define clearly the role & competency of HRD because of diverse perspectives on them. But we find much evidence converging to support the fact that the role & competency of HRD should be extended from the sole focus on training & development to adding the additional role & competency of change agent, who includes planning, implementing, and managing change.

CARTIER OPERATORS ON COMPACT DISCRETE VALUATION RINGS AND APPLICATIONS

  • From an analytical perspective, we introduce a sequence of Cartier operators that act on the field of formal Laurent series in one variable with coefficients in a field of positive characteristic p. In this work, we discover the binomial inversion formula between Hasse derivatives and Cartier operators, implying that Cartier operators can play a prominent role in various objects of study in function field arithmetic, as a suitable substitute for higher derivatives. For an applicable object, the Wronskian criteria associated with Cartier operators are introduced. These results stem from a careful study of two types of Cartier operators on the power series ring ${\mathbf{F}}_q$[[T]] in one variable T over a finite field ${\mathbf{F}}_q$ of q elements. Accordingly, we show that two sequences of Cartier operators are an orthonormal basis of the space of continuous ${\mathbf{F}}_q$-linear functions on ${\mathbf{F}}_q$[[T]]. According to the digit principle, every continuous function on ${\mathbf{F}}_q$[[T]] is uniquely written in terms of a q-adic extension of Cartier operators, with a closed-form of expansion coefficients for each of the two cases. Moreover, the p-adic analogues of Cartier operators are discussed as orthonormal bases for the space of continuous functions on ${\mathbf{Z}}_p$.

멀티스케일 모델링을 이용한 압력용기강의 조사손상 정량예측 (Quantitative Estimation of Radiation Damage in Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels by Using Multiscale Modeling)

  • In this work, an integrated model including molecular dynamics and chemical rate theory was implemented to calculate the growth of point defect clusters(PDC) and copper-rich precipitates(CRP) which could change the mechanical properties of reactor pressure vessel(RPV) steels in a nuclear power plant. A number of time-dependent differential equations were established and numerically integrated to estimate the evolution of irradiation defects. The calculation showed that the concentration of the vacancies was higher than that of the self-interstitial atoms. The higher concentration of vacancies induced a formation of the CRPs in the later stage. The size of the CRPs was used to estimate the mechanical property changes in RPV steels, as is the same case with the PDCs. The calculation results were compared with the measured values of yield strength change and Charpy V-notch transition temperature shift, which were obtained from the surveillance test data of Korean light water reactors(LWRs). The estimated values were in fair agreement with the experimental results in spite of the uncertainty of the modeling parameters.

  • Advanced oxidation processes using UV and catalysts like $TiO_2$ and ZnO have been recently applied for the photocatalytic degradation of MTBE in water. Attempts have been made to replace the UV radiation by the solar spectrum. This review intends to shed more light on the work that has been done so far in this area of research. The information provided will help in crystallizing the ideas required to shift the trend from UV photocatalysis to sunlight photocatalysis. The careful optimization of the reaction parameters and the type of the dopant employed are greatly responsible for any enhancement in the degradation process. The advantage of shifting from UV photocatalysts to visible light photocatalysts can be observed when catalysts like $TiO_2$ and ZnO are doped with suitable metals. Therefore, it is expected that in the near future, the visible light photocatalysis will be the main technique applied for the remediation of water contaminated with MTBE.

Cantilever beam vibration sensor based on the axial property of fiber Bragg grating

  • In the fields of civil engineering and seismology, it is essential to detect and tracking the vibrations, and the fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are typically used as sensors to measure vibrations. Where, one of the most popular and detailed approaches to use FBGs as vibration sensors involves the use of cantilever beam designs, which adds a mass to measure low and moderate frequencies (from 20 Hz up to 1 kHz) with high sensitivities (greater than 10 pm/g). The design consists of a bending strain in the cantilever that is simultaneously transferred to the FBG, resulting in a shift in the wavelength that is proportional to the strain experienced by the cantilever. In this work, we present the experimental results of a vibration sensor design using a cantilever beam to generate an axial uniform strain in the FBG in-line with the vertical axis, which modifies the cantilever's natural frequency that allows the sensor to have a wide frequency broadband without losing sensitivity. This sensor achieved a sensitivity of about 339 pm/g and a natural frequency of 227.3 Hz. The presented design compared with the traditional cantilever beam-based FBG vibration sensors, has the advantages of a simple design for detection on vibration-sensitive structures and its physical parameters can be easily modified in order to satisfy the requirements of the desired vibration measurements.

중소병원 간호사의 직무 스트레스와 임파워먼트가 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Job Stress and Empowerment on Clinical Nurses' Performance in Small and Medium Hospitals)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of job stress and empowerment on nursing performance of clinical nurses working in small and medium hospital. Methods: The empirical data were collected from a self-administered survey using a structured questionnaire with 404 nurses working in 4 medium-sized hospitals (less than 300 beds), located in I-city. The data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in nursing performance depending on general characteristics (age, marital status, religion, shift work, education level, position, clinical experience, department, and monthly salary). Empowerment correlated with nursing performance. Factors influencing on nursing performance were empowerment, clinical experience, job stress, and marital status with $R^2$ value of 36.3%. The most influencing factor was empowerment (${\beta}$=.47), followed by clinical experience (${\beta}$=.24), job stress (${\beta}$=.20), and marriage (${\beta}$=.12). Conclusion: It is needed to implement specific empowerment strategy, control job stress, and reward experienced and married nurses working in medium-sized hospital for improving nursing task performance.

간호사의 양육스트레스와 이직의도의 관계 (The Relationship Among Nurses' Parenting Stress and Turnover Intention)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to understand correlation of parenting stress and turnover intention of nurses, and to provide basic data for effective nursing management. Methods: Subjects included 287 nurses who had children and worked in hospitals. Data were collected through organized questionnaires from September 1st to 30th 2010. Collected data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis using PASW statistics 18 program. Results: The average score for parenting stress of the participants was 3.12 out of 5. Nurture stress was statistically different depending on age, job position, shift work, night duty and stages of family development. The average score for turnover intention of the participants was 3.34 out of 5. Turnover intention was statistically different depending on age, number of children and stages of family development. As a result of correlation analysis of parenting stress and turnover intention, turnover intention showed positive correlation with daily stress, stress caused from taking parent role and average parenting stress. Conclusion: This study indicates that parenting stress is related with turnover intention, nursing managers should make efforts to decrease parenting stress in order to reduce turnover intention of nurses.
