  • Sheet metal formabilities for aluminum 1050 and 5052 were experimentally investigated in this study. Deep drawability, bendability and stretch formability were measured at each process condition and correlated with tensile properties of sheet metal. To compare the formabilities of aluminum 1050 and 5052 sheets with those of steel sheets, deep drawing quality(DDQ) steel sheets are also tested at the same test conditions. Through the experimental studies, influential process variables for each forming process were obtained and correlated with the tensile properties. The comparisons of sheet metal formabilities with those of steed sheets showed that aluminum 1050 and 5052 is inherently deficient in formability than steel sheets but Al 5052 that has highter n and r value than al 1050 showed better formabilities.

  • Recently, strengthening of structural members by adhesion of steel plate or fiber sheets is generally used. Particularly, the Carbon Fiber Sheets (CFS) is widely used. Rut, the strengthening effect of the CFS is not clearly define yet. Therefore, this paper is designed to evaluate the effectiveness of CFS methods by analyzing previous studies in statistics. According to the results, the maximum load carrying capacity is increased up to 0.16 times when the reinforced concrete beams were strengthened by CFS which is standard specimens. The number of sheets made some effect on the strength while, the other parameters influenced the ductile capacity.

  • This study is on the strength capacity and the strengthening effects of crarbon fiber sheets(CFS) and glass fiber sheets (GFS) on steel reinforced concrete(SRC) beams. SRC beams are often used on high-rise building construction to save story height and construction cost. However, there are no strengthening design code in Korea and most engineers design it as steel beams ignored the composite effect if reinforced concrete. Test results on steel reinforced concrete beams reveal thar the strength capacity of SRC beam is more than simple addition of steel and reinforced concrete beams. In case of steel reinforced concrete beams, ultimate moment capacity of strengthening beam of carbon fiber sheets is 120% of non-strengthening one.

  • A number of studies have been conducted on FRP shear strengthening of RC beams during the past decade. The test results indicated. that the strengthened specimens failed predominantly by debonding of the FRP sheets before reaching the rupture strength of FRP sheets. For this reason, limits on the effective strain in FRP have been incorporated in ACI 440.2R recommendation considering debonding failure. This paper presents the test results of 7 small scale RC beams shear-strengthened with glass fiber sheets. Three types of FRP configurations, such as two sides bonded, U wrap and fiber shear-key embedded, were considered. GFRP sheet were bonded vertically to member axis along the shear span. From the test results, it was found that debonding strain of GFRP sheets at failure decreased with the number of layers. In addition, effective strain of FRP proposed by ACI 440.2R recommendation has been verified in this study.

  • The properties of LTCC green sheets formed by the MLS-22 powder of NEG Inc. were investigated for acrylic binders with different PVB and Tg in the variation of temperature. The elongation of the green sheets showed large variation depending on the temperature, and was rapidly decreased near the Tg of the sheets. With the increase of the ratio of plasticizer/binder (P/B), large elongation of the sheets was observed due to the decrease of the Tg. In the stacking process of the multilayer ceramic, the optimal control of the temperature is highly required depending on the Tg of the binder and the ratio of P/Buniform coating.

  • Up to the present time, laminated insulators have been used for the insulation of electrical apparatus. The reason to use laminated insulators is based on the fact that electrical break-down voltage depends on the weak spot theory. If thin insulators are laminated, the weak spot existence probability across the electrodes decreases according to the number of lamination. In this test, the effect of the number of lamination and the thickness of each lamination sheets on their break-down voltage are discussed. The results taken as a whole indicate; (1) The break-down voltage of laminated insulators composed of thin sheets are higher than those of thick sheets, however, the voltage may become the same beyond any definite thickness of laminated insulators. (2) When the lamination sheets becomes thinner, the variation of break-down voltage is great according to the number of lamination sheets. (3) It may by effective to use laminated insulators even when the insulators are aparted from the electrodes.

  • In Japan, protective measures to reduce falls from scaffolds have been strictly applied within industry safety guidelines, and such measures have significantly decreased fatal accidents due to falls from scaffolds. However, the rate of fatal accidents from falls is still high in the construction industries. In order to examine further countermeasures to reduce such falls, the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare established a committee in our institute. That committee$\acute{i}$s work experimentally confirmed the effectiveness of using plastic sheets as a covering around scaffolds to protect against falls of construction materials (a method widely used in Japan). However, the workers fell from the space between the work platform and the plastic sheets very occasionally. Based on those results, the plastic sheets were improved for fall protection from the space, and the effect of the improved sheets was confirmed experimentally.

  • In this paper, the compressive strength and ductility enhancement of concrete by lateral confinement of carbon-fiber sheets(CFS) have been studied experimentaly with cylinder specimens and square short columns reinforced externally by CFS. Test variables were amount of lateral reinforcement by CFS and space of hoop bars. Test results showed that lateral reinforcements by carbon-fiber sheets provided lateral confinement successfully for the concrete specimens and were more effective for ductility enhancement than for strength increase, and that the lateral confinement coefficient of cabon-fiber sheets increased according to narrowing the space of hoop bars in the double lateral confinement made by CFS and hoop bars.

  • The AA5182/polypropylene/AA5182(AA/PP/AA) sandwich sheets have been developed for application to automotive body panels in future lightweight vehicles with significant weight reduction. It has been reported that the AA5182 aluminum sheet shows $L\"{u}ders$ band because of dissolved Mg atoms that cause fabrication process problem, especially surface roughness. The examination of serration behavior has been made after the tensile deformation of the AA/PP/AA sandwich sheets as well as that of the AA5182 aluminum skins at room and elevated temperatures. All sandwich sheets and the AA5182 aluminum skin showed serration behavior on their flow curves. However, the magnitude of serration was significantly diminished in the sandwich sheet with high volume fraction of the polypropylene core. According to the results of the analysis of the surface roughness following the tensile test, $L\"{u}ders$ band depth of the sandwich sheet evidently showed lower than that of the AA5182 aluminum skin. The strain rate sensitivity, m-value, of the AA5182 aluminum skin was -0.006. By attaching these skins to the polypropylene core, which has relatively large positive value of 0.050, m-value of the sandwich sheets changed to the positive value. The serration mechanism of the sandwich sheets was quantitatively investigated in the point of the effect on polypropylene thickness variation, that on the strain rate sensitivity and that on the localized stress state.

  • A simple method for exfoliating pristine graphite to yield mono-, bi-, and multi-layers of graphene sheets as a highly concentrated (5.25 mg/mL) and yielded solution in an organic solvent was developed. Pre-thermal treatment of pristine graphite at $900^{\circ}C$ in a sealed stainless steel bath under high pressures, followed by sonication in 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone solvent at elevated temperatures, produced a homogeneous, well-dispersed, and non-oxidized graphene solution with a low defect density. The electrical conductivities of the graphene sheets were very high, up to 848 S/cm. These graphene sheets were used to fabricate graphene-polyimide nanocomposites, which displayed a higher electrical conductivity (1.37 S/m) with an improved tensile strength (95 MPa). The synthesized graphene sheets and nanocomposites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy.
