  • The major distress types in the domestic asphalt pavement are fatigue cracking, reflection cracking, thermal cracking, and rutting. To decrease the pavement distress by reinforcing asphalt pavement with reinforcement interlayer in geosynthetics to the traditional pavement systems can improve these problems. This study conducted laboratory test with asphalt pavement reinforced by glass fiber sheet to fix systematically geosynthetic asphalt pavement system. Laboratory tests like wheel tracking test and crack resistance test are conducted to analyze the controlling effect of glass fiber sheet on cracking and rutting of asphalt pavement.

  • The purpose of this study was to review ways to increase mechanical performance and apply to actual structures by reinforcing AL perforated sheets, which are industrial by-products generated after capacitor production, with mortar to reinforce the stress of structural members. The AL perforated sheet was reinforced so that it behaves integrally at the position receiving compression, tension, and bending stress. It was confirmed that the stress received by the AL perforated sheet increased according to the number of reinforcements, and as a result, the mechanical properties were improved.

  • Since regulation or specification for the reinforcing method are quite ambiguous, structural design for the reinforcement can be subjectively and arbitrarily conducted. Thus, reasonable limitation and guide for the quantity of the reinforcement are required for the safe use of the structure after repair. In order to guarantee the safety of the structural member several items should be considered; reinforcing limit to avoid the brittle failure, least required strength of the existing member before reinforcement in order not to fail under the new serviceability load condition when reinforcing steel plates or CFRP sheets are harmed or subjected to fire.

  • It has been known that debonding failures between CFS(Carbon Fiber Sheet) and concrete in the strengthened RC beams are initiated by the peeling of the sheets in the region of combined large moment and shear forces, being accompanied by the large shear deformation after flexural cracks. These shear deformation effects are seldom occurred in small-scale model tests, but debondings due to the large shear deformation effects are often observed in a full-scale model tests. The premature debonding failure of CFS, therefore, must be avoided to confirm the design strength of full-scale RC beam in strengthening designs. The reinforcing details, so- called 'U-Shape fiber wrap at mid-span' which wrapped the RC flexural members around the webs and tension face at critical section with CFS additionally, were proposed in this study to prevent the debonding of CFS. Other reinforcing detail, so called 'U-Shape fiber wrap at beam end' were included in this tests and comparisons were made between them.

  • This paper presents the development process of automotive side door impact beam for passenger cars. Weight reduction while maintaining functional requirements is one of the major goals in the automotive industry. In this study, thin-walled side door beam using quenchable boron steel was designed to reduce the weight of conventional side door tubular one. In order to estimate design for the proposed side door beams, the static side impact protection tests(FMVSS 214) were conducted using the finite element method. Based on the simulation results, geometry modification of the side door beam has been performed via creating new reinforcing ribs. Furthermore, the manufactured frontal impact beam was mounted on the real side door of a passenger car, and then static impact protection test carried out. It is concluded that the presented test results can provide significant contribution to the stiffness of side door impact beams and light-weighting door research.

  • In this study, it was experimentally investigated the effectiveness of repair and strengthening methods for RC beams deteriorated under severs enviromental conditions. Polymer cement were employed to restore the sectional loss and aramid fiber-reinforced sheet was used to reinforce the surface subject to tension. Repaired and strengthened reinforced-concrete samples were subjected to loading tests. The tests revealed that the sectional restoration enhanced the loading capability of the sample structures. Additional strengthening with one aramid fiber-reinforced sheet improved 18% of yielding load and 30% of ultimate load of the structure. Reinforcing with two aramid fiber-reinforced sheets brought about an enhancement of 22% of yielding loading and 49% of ultimate load.

  • In recent years the research and development about the new material proceeds rapidly and actively in building industry. We are concerned with high-strength concrete as a new material. As the building structure becomes bigger, higher and more specialized, so does the demand of material and member with high strength for building expands greatly. In the future, we will quite need to research repair and rehabilitation to make high strength concrete structural building for our safe. So, I did an study on carbon fiber sheet rehabilitation(CFSR) of reinforced high strength concrete beams. The carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) bonding method is widely used for reinforcing the existing concrete structure among the various methods. The test results indicate that CFS is very effective for strengthening the damaged beams and controlling deflections of the repaired beams. When carbon fiber sheet rehabilitation of reinforced high strength concrete beams happened diagonal crack, the increase in the number of CFS layer didn't effect the increase in strength of beams. Also, by changing the CFS stick position gave diversified ultimate load in CFSR beams.

  • This study performed 4-point flexural tests of reinforced concrete to which was attached a distributed optical fiber sheet and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets in order to assess the effect of the CFRP sheets and the applicability of a BOTDR sensor simultaneously. To evaluate the reinforcing effect, various degrees of CFRP sheet attachment were manufactured, and to evaluate the sensing ability, strains obtained from a BOTDR sensor were compared with strains measured from electric resistance strain gauges that were attached to the concrete surface. From the results, the reinforcing effects were evidently different according to the attachment type of the CFRP sheets, and it was confirmed that the main influencing factor on the reinforcing effect was the type of attachment rather than the attachment area. The reinforced concrete structural behavior was visualized with strains measured from the BOTDR sensor as load increased, and it was identified that load was concentrated in the CFRP reinforced area. Strains from the BOTDR sensor were similar to those from the electric resistance strain gauge; thereby a BOTDR sensor can be effective in the analysis of structural behaviorsof massive infrastructure. Finally, the strain from a BOTDR sensor was high where CFRP sheet fall-off occurs, and it would therefore be efficient to track local damage locations of CFRP sheets by utilizing a BOTDR sensor.

  • This technology employs a method of forming a single-ply PLUS waterproofing sheet layer comprised of applying a single-ply synthetic polymer layer on a vibrating structure (steel frame, RC) or an inclined surface by using a T joint lap-filling coil and an embedded metal coated sheet. The T - joint reinforcing lap-filling coil was used to block the ingress channel of the rainwater by applying the material in the vulnerable area where the three sides of the waterproof sheet overlapped. Conventional waterproofing techniques have a problem in that the waterproof sheet is pierced because the end portion of the waterproof sheet applied to the vertical portion is fixed by a nail, and the sealant applied to the end portion of the sheet cannot easily secure long-term waterproof durability due to the influence of the external environment. Therefore, the developed technology secured the waterproof durability against the vertical part by using the embedded metal sheet. In addition, automatic hot-air fusing is used to improve the quality of waterproof construction and point fixation method using fixed hardware. This is a technology that is not significantly restricted in the high degradation level regions of domestic waterproof construction environments in Korea such as low-temperature environment, wet floor.

  • The limit equilibrium method and finite element method have been commonly used to assess the stability of anchored slope. However, the existing limit equilibrium methods do not consider the load transfer of anchor and, if the potential failure surface crosses the bonded zone of anchors, the anchor loads are not included in computing the factor of safety. In this paper, simplified bishop method, one among several methods based on the limit equilibrium is used to develope the Excel Sheet program and the working load of anchor along the failure surface is calculated by Flamant's formula, proposed by Morlier and Tenier(1982). Additionally, the finite element analysis of anchored slope considering the load transfer is performed in order to compare with the result from the limit equilibrium analysis and analyze the reinforced effect of anchor. From this study, new modelling method that limits the reinforcing range and considers the load transfer is proposed and Excel Sheet program is developed. The factor of safety for several cases between PC STABL and Excel Sheet program is also compared for verification of the program.
