  • The purpose of the paper is to find the elements of jacket pattern far the obese women who went to slenderize their shape by optical illusion. Representative four subjects participated in wear tests. Subjective evaluation of the visual appearance we collected and, at the same time, 3D clothing air volume was observed for the four types of experimental jackets. As results it was found that narrower shoulder width, back upper width, and front waist width resulted in slender look, however, back abdomen width and front shoulder length induced more slender appearance in waist area. The result of the distance between clothing and skin measured by 3D scanner clearly demonstrated the distribution of ease due to the elements of pattern, which is useful to find the pattern variables responsible for the slender appearance of the obese women.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a suitable jacket pattern for elderly women. The subjects were two women of the ages of 65-70, who had different bust size. To reflect the ready made pattern drafting systems, 4 industrial patterns were selected. After analyzing the problems of these patterns, a new jacket pattern was proposed. The results were as follows : 1) The amount of appropriate ease in fitted jacket for elderly women was about 10cm at the bust circumference, 10∼12cm at the hip circumference and the height of sleeve cap was AH/3+0.5cm. 2) Considering an enlargement of waist and abdomen, difference between front and back size was 2cm on the bust line, 6-8cm on the waist and hip line. 3) Because of the shape of concavity of back-waist, center back line in the pattern was folded by 0.5cm from center back waist toward side seam for manipulation. 4) The new jacket pattern was compared with the existing pattern through the wearing test by sensory evaluation. It showed that the fit and comfort of experimental pattern was superior to those of the existing pattern.

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary hepatic neoplasms in dogs. Three types of HCC such as massive, nodular and diffuse form were reported. Massive HCC is most common and has relatively better prognosis than other forms because this type of HCC can be removed surgically and has low frequency of relapse or metastasis. Diagnostic image can provide useful information for shape and internal structure of the hepatic mass as well as the location and adhesion or invasiveness of the mass to establish surgical plan to remove the mass safely. In this study, we investigated diagnostic features of massive HCC in 5 dogs. Radiography showed soft tissue mass in cranial abdomen in 3 dogs. On ultrasonography, all dogs had a solitary hepatic mass with mixed echo pattern with anechoic cysts, which represented necrosis and hemorrhage. The radiographic and ultrasonographic findings of affected hepatic lobe were compared with the macroscopic findings through laparotomy. Computed tomography was performed to check metastasis and figure out the origin of the mass in two dogs. Ultrasonography is useful and relatively sensitive examination for diagnosis and planning for surgery in canine massive HCC.

  • This study analyzes the type of subjectivity of married women who have experienced pregnancy and childbirth. It also provides basic data on clothing development that can provide satisfaction to the physical comfort and appearance of pregnant women by understanding the conditions necessary for maternity wear design. This study used Q methodology. The type of recognition for maternity wear was classified into three types and explained 90.88% of total variance. Type 1 was comfort and activities style-oriented. They preferred the A-line shape with a size adjustable style and elastic material. In addition, they preferred designs using details such as wrinkles. Type 2 was a fitted body and modern style-oriented. It was analyzed that they prefer a pants style that is close to the body in a simple and modern style of monotone. Type 3 held a lot of space and was cute style-oriented. They preferred cute dress style along with a maternity suit that could cover the hip and abdomen. Maternity wear design is necessary to develop various designs considering preferences because it is classified into types that emphasize comfort, types that emphasize modernity that is close to the body, and styles that emhasize cute styles.

  • The present study reports a rare case of Taenia saginata infection, which was initially diagnosed as acute cholecystitis in a Tibetan patient at the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau pastoral area, China. A 45-year-old female was initially diagnosed with acute cholecystitis at a hospital in China. She had a slight fever, weight loss and constipation and complained of pain in the upper abdomen and left back areas. Increase of monocyte, eosinophil and basophil levels were shown. Taenia sp. eggs were detected in a fecal examination. An adult tapeworm approximately 146 cm in length, whitish-yellow color, was collected from the patient after treatment with traditional Chinese medicine. The adult tapeworm had a scolex and proglottids with genital pores. The scolex was rectangular shape with 4 suckers and rostellum without hooklet. The cox1 gene sequence shared 99.5-99.8% homology with that of T. saginata from other regions in China. The patient was diagnosed finally infected with T. saginata by morphological and molecular charateristics.

  • In this study, an ultrasonic transducer was designed with a commercial finite element analysis (FEA) code, PZFlex, and fabricated based on the design. The transducer has the dimension and shape suitable for abdomen diagnosis working at 5 ㎒ and consists of 128 piezoelectric elements disposed in a convex linear array form. The transducer is composed of two impedance matching layers, one backing layer, and kerfs placed between the piezoelectric elements. Validity of the design with the FEA was illustrated through experimental characterization of a sample transducer. Comparison with the design results by equivalent circuit analysis method was also made to check the superiority of the FEA design.

  • This study seeks to increase the satisfaction of elderly men when purchasing and wearing ready-to-wear clothes by designing a slacks pattern suitable for their body type, which is determined by analyzing their lower bodies using virtual avatars and 3D virtual simulation system. The study found the following. First, based on virtual visualization of the comparison slacks pattern, the waistline position was consistently the lowest scored question among the evaluation survey items. Interpretation of this dissatisfaction suggests that, because the front waistline falls below the abdomen, the lower body, and especially the abdominal shape, is unpleasantly emphasized. Second, by using a virtual simulation system, the study developed a new slacks pattern that considered the concerns of elderly men. The primary measurement changes were as follows: front waist girth W/4+1.5cm+0.5cm, back waist girth W/4+1.5cm-0.5cm, front hip girth H/4+2.5cm-0.5cm, back hip girth H/4+2.5cm+0.5cm. Third, the new slacks pattern's appearance was evaluated more highly than the comparison pattern, confirming the new pattern's appropriateness for elderly men. This study demonstrates how slacks and other clothing patterns designed in a 3D virtual garment simulator can be used to design more appealing clothing for elderly men, increasing the satisfaction of wearing ready-made clothes at older ages.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of appearance instrumentality on body satisfaction and appearance management behaviors by adolescent' sex. The subjects were 750 adolescents in Daejeon and Chungnam province. The research method was a survey and the measuring instruments consisted of appearance instrumentality, body satisfaction, appearance management behaviors, and subjects' demographics attributions. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ${\chi}^2$ test, and t-test, using SPSS statistical program. The results were as follows. First, 3 dimensions(the utility of interpersonal relationship, social achievement and sexual partnership) were emerged on appearance instrumentality, and adolescents were divided into 2 groups(unreceptive and receptive group) by appearance instrumentality. Second, appearance instrumentality had significant effects on female adolescents' body satisfaction; receptive group was more dissatisfied with their bodies, especially weight, hip, abdomen, and body shape than unreceptive group. However, it had no significant effects on male adolescents' body satisfaction. Third, appearance instrumentality had many significant effects on male and female adolescents' appearance management behaviors. Especially, female receptive group had higher intention to perform professional care by a sliming club, beauty salon, and dermatology, and face plastic surgery than unreceptive group.
