  • This research presents an advanced finite element formulation for analyzing the vibratory behaviour of tapered composite shaft rotors, taking into account the impact of the draft angle on the stiffness of the composite shaft laminate. The vibration response of the shaft rotating around its axis is studied using both the finite element hierarchical method and the classical finite element formulation, based on the theory of transverse shear deformation, rotary inertia, gyroscopic effect, and coupling effect due to the stratification of the composite layers of the shaft. The study also includes the development of a program to calculate the Eigen frequencies and critical speeds of the system, and the obtained results are compared with those available in the literature. This research provides valuable insights into the vibratory behaviour of tapered composite shaft rotors and can be useful for designing and optimizing such structures in various industrial applications.

  • In the industrial motor drive system which is composed of a motor and load connected with a flexible shaft, a torsional vibration is often generated because of the elastic elements in torque transmission. To solve this problem H$_{\infty}$ controller was designed. In this paper, H$_{\infty}$ control of 2-mass system using H$_{\infty}$ filter for compensating shaft torque is proposed. Pole-zero maps show the validity of proposed controller.

  • The analysis of statically indeterminate bearing-shaft system was investigated. The moment loads and misalignment angles which were induced in the ball bearings were determined, and the influence of span length of this system on the moment loads and fatigue lives was identified. The sliding and spinning speeds between balls and raceways which affected the performance of ball bearing evaluated. The equation to estimate the cage speed of ball bearing under moment loads was proposed. This equation had been verified by the test results of measuring of cage speed, which was useful to the prediction of ball bearing under moment loads.

  • In this paper a development of shaft power measuring system for a small vessel is discussed. It is important that the exact power measurement of marine engine which is used for ship's propulsion since the engine power is related to ship's usage and its shaft design. Two gearwheel and magnetic sensors are adopted to measure torsional angle on the shaft. High resolution encoder is also applied to compensate the output signal from gearwheel. The calculation of shaft power is executed using measured signal and angular velocity of rotating machine and the result is plotted on the monitoring screen.

  • The experimental study on the shape and behavior of bubbles in U-tube deep shaft of 32m has been performed. According to the results in this paper, the equivalent spherical diameter of bubbles was 0.422-0.722cm and the shape of bubbles was almost ellipsoidal for bubbles to be generated ta single-orifice of diameter 0.06cm in the downcomer of the deep shaft system. Gas hold-up and gas-liquid contact area of bubbles in the deep shaft was decreased in accordance with depth, Also downcomer velocity of bubbles was slower than circulation velocity of liquid and riser velocity of bubbles was fast than circulation velocity. The bubble-size-distribution of bubbles in the deep shaft was the logarithmic probability distribution. The number of bubbles in the deep shaft was decreased in accordance with depth and the number of bubbles in the downcomer is more than the bubbles in the riser.

  • Recently as electronics and semi-conductor industry develop, ultra-precision machine tools that use air-spindle with externally pressurized air bearing appear in need of ultra-precision products which demand high precision property. Effects of air compressibility absorbs the vibration of shaft, this is called averaging effect, however, the higher running accuracy is demanded by degrees, the more important factor is machining errors that affect running accuracy of shaft. Actually, it would be very important in the view points of running accuracy to understand effects of machining errors on the running accuracy of the spindle system quantitatively to design and manufacture precision spindle system in the aspect that efficiency in manufacturing spindle system and performance in operation. So fu, there are some researches on the effects that machining error affect running accuracy. However, because these researches deal with one bearing of spindle system, these results aren't enough to explain how much machining errors affect running accuracy in the typical spindle system overall. In this study, we investigate the effects of the perpendicularity error of bearing and shaft on running accuracy of spindle system that consists of journal and thrust bearing theoretically, and suggest design guideline about shape tolerances.

  • This paper presents a stand-alone variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) ship shaft generator system based on a brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM). In this system, the output voltage amplitude and frequency of the BDFM are kept constant under a variable rotor speed and load by utilizing a well-designed current vector controller to regulate the control winding (CW) current. The control scheme is proposed, and the hardware design for the control system is developed. The proposed generator system is tested on a 325 TEU container vessel, and the test results show the good dynamic performance of the CW current vector controller and the whole control system. A harmonic analysis of the output voltage and a fuel consumption analysis of the generator system are also implemented. Finally, the total efficiency of the generator system is presented under different rotor speeds and load conditions.

  • This study presents the assessment of pseudostatic approach for obtaining the internal response of Single Column/Shaft subjected to earthquake loading. In numerical procedure, various lateral load transfer characteristics (p-y curve and Bi-linear curve) were used to model the nonlinear behavior of soil reactions including soil-pile interaction. The analysis using nonlinear soil model could estimate the seismic performance of soil-pile system, despite its relative simplicity. It was found that lateral behavior of single column/shaft obtained from the response displacement method was larger than those by seismic intensity method. To investigate the effects of soil-pile rigidity and pile head condition on the internal pile response, parametric studies were carried out for various soil models. The results from numerical analysis showed that lateral deflection was decreased with fixed condition of pile head and decreasing the soil-pile rigidity. The seismic analysis using Bi-linear model of JRA could reasonably predict the lateral behavior of Single Column/Shaft.
