  • These days, the interest of high speed robotic system is increasing because it is very important to get the cost-competitiveness. The parallel kinematic mechanism is more useful than the serial kinematic mechanism. For the reason, the researches on the parallel robot system as a high speed robotic one are have been done by many researchers. In this paper, the research on the design and analysis of the high speed parallel robot has been done by the authors. First, Basic robot structure is designed and modal analysis is studied to get the basic characteristics of the vibrational motion. Second, the harmonic analysis is studied to get the information of the natural frequency in some different designs of the outer-arm of the parallel robot. Finally, actual robot system is designed and implemented and it is confirmed that the analysis results coincide with the experimental results.

  • A new method of estimating the pose of a mobile-task robot is developed based upon an active calibration scheme. The utility of a mobile-task robot is widely recognized, which is formed by the serial connection of a mobile robot and a task robot. To be an efficient and precise mobile-task robot, the control uncertainties in the mobile robot should be resolved. Unless the mobile robot provides an accurate and stable base, the task robot cannot perform various tasks. For the control of the mobile robot, an absolute position sensor is necessary. However, on account of rolling and slippage of wheels on the ground, there does not exist any reliable position sensor for the mobile robot. This paper proposes an active calibration scheme to estimate the pose of a mobile robot that carries a task robot on the top. The active calibration scheme is to estimate a pose of the mobile robot using the relative position/orientation to a known object whose location, size, and shape are known a priori. For this calibration, a camera is attached on the top of the task robot to capture the images of the objects. These images are used to estimate the pose of the camera itself with respect to the known objects. Through the homogeneous transformation, the absolute position/orientation of the camera is calculated and propagated to get the pose of a mobile robot. Two types of objects are used here as samples of work-pieces: a polygonal and a cylindrical object. With these two samples, the proposed active calibration scheme is verified experimentally.

  • In recent years, robots have been used widely in industrial field and have been expanded as a result of continuous research and development for high-speed and miniaturization. The goal of this paper is to design the serial manipulator through kinematic analysis and to control the position and orientation of end-effector with respect to time. In general, a structure of industrial robot consists of several links connected in series by various types of joints, typically revolute and prismatic joints. The movement of these joints is determined in inverse kinematic analysis. Compared to the complicated structure of parallel and hybrid robot, open loop system retains the characteristic that each link is independent and is controlled easily. AC servo motor is used to place the robot end-effector toward the accurate point with the desired speed and power while it is operated by position control algorithm. The robot end-effector should trace the given trajectory within the appropriate time. The trajectory of end-effector can be displayed on the monitor of general personal computer through Opengl program.

  • This paper presents the development and control of an omni-directional holonomic mobile robot platform, which is equipped with three lateral orthogonal-wheel assemblies. Omni-directionality can be achieved with decoupled rotational and translational motions. Simulation studies on collision avoidance are conducted. A real robot is built and its hardware is implemented to control the robot. Control algorithm is embedded on DSP and FPGA chips. Hardware for motor control such as PWM, encoder counter, serial communication modules is implemented on an FPGA chip. Experimental studies of following joystick commands are performed to demonstrate the functionality and controllability of the robot.

  • Various robots were developed for harvesting fruits and vegetables. However, each robot was designed for a specific task such as harvesting apples or vegetables. This has been a big hurdle in application of robots to agriculture. A new type of hybrid manipulator with both parallel and serial joints was developed and designed to apply to various kinds of field operations. The hybrid manipulator had 2 extra degree of freedom in serial joints which made it flexible in switching one to the other type of hybrid manipulator, for example, PUMA to SCARA. And it was designed to harvest heavy fruits such as musky melons or water melons even behind leaves or branches of tree. This hybrid manipulator showed less than $\pm1mm$ position error. It was concluded that the hybrid manipulator was an effective and feasible tool to perform various works and to increase working performance.

  • In this paper, we propose the structure of heterogeneous multiprocessor's concept, which is the structure of the new type of the robot controller, and we introduce an integrating structure method, which is distributed multiprocessor within controller using sRIO. We also perform the computer simulation with using the sRIO IP core which was designed within FPGA as the method for implementation of integrated heterogeneous multiprocessor by sRIO communication. Thus, we verify the result.

  • In this paper, we develop the on board type image processing system using the CMOS sensor and the RISC type main processor. The main processor transmits YUV 4:2:2 type raw data captured by a CMOS image sensor to another processor(such as motion controller, PC, etc) via serial communication (rs232, SPI, I2C, etc). The role of another processor is line and obstacle detecting in image data received from the image processing board developed in this paper.

  • Automative system and robot are operated by motor. Recently, automative system and robot need correct operation and control for precise task. Therefore they need precise motor control technology. In present, controller needs precise motor control technology in automative system and robot. Usual step motor driver that has 200 steps per revolution is not proper. So we need micro step motor driver that is more precise then usual step motor driver. In this paper, micro step motor driver is used for precise control of step motor. The goal is precise operation and location control. This micro step motor driver is A3972SB that is made in Alloegro Company. It has serial port that receives two 6-bits linear DAC value. Almost all systems generate DAC value with micro processer and ...

  • This study proposes a new approach to analyze the impedance and the elasticity of a serial chain of spring-damper system, areal-time collision-free trajectory generation algorithm is proposed. The reference points on a trajectory connected by the spring-damper system have a mechanism for self-position adjustment to solve a collision problem by the impedance, and the local adjustment of each reference point is propagated through the elasticity to a real robot at the end of the spring-damper system. As a result, the overall trajectory consisting of the reference points becomes free of collision with environmental obstacles and efficient having the shortest distance as possible. In this process,, the reference points connected by the spring-damper system take role of virtual robot as global guidance for a real robot, and a cooperative is carried out by the system of robots. A control technology is proposed to implement for mobile robot.

  • Detecting of the object in image processing is substantial but it depends on the object itself and the environment. An object can be detected either by its shape or color. Color is an essential for pattern recognition and computer vision. It is an attractive feature because of its simplicity and its robustness to scale changes and to detect the positions of the object. Generally, color of an object depends on its characteristics of the perceiving eye and brain. Physically, objects can be said to have color because of the light leaving their surfaces. Here, we conducted experiment in the aquarium fish tank. Different color of fish robots are mimic the natural swim of fish. Unfortunately, in the underwater medium, the colors are modified by attenuation and difficult to identify the color for moving objects. We consider the fish motion as a moving object and coordinates are found at every instinct of the aquarium to detect the position of the fish robot using OpenCV color detection. In this paper, we proposed to identify the position of the fish robot by their color and use the position data to control the fish robot gathering in one point in the fish tank through serial communication using RF module. It was verified by the performance test of detecting the position of the fish robot.
